"Chartres Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres), is a Roman Catholic church in Chartres, France, about 80 km (50 miles) southwest of Paris, and is the seat of the Bishop of Chartres. Mostly constructed between 1194 and 1220, it stands at the site of at least five cathedrals that have occupied the site since the Diocese of Chartres was formed as an episcopal see in the 4th century. It is in the High Gothic and Romanesque styles.

Originally built in 1837-1840, this Greek Revival-style building was designed by John Francis Rague, and constructed to serve as the Illinois State Capitol, replacing the previous state house in Vandalia. The building features limestone exterior walls, a side-gable roof, two-story doric porticoes on the north and south facades, doric pilasters, an architrave with triglyphs at the base of the roof, twelve-over-twelve double-hung windows, and a central cylindrical cupola surrounded by a corinthian colonnade, which supports a small dome. The building was where Abraham Lincoln served his last term as a state lawmaker in 1840-1841, where he represented clients to the supreme court between 1841 and 1860, and where he announced his candidacy for senate in 1858, with the “House Divided” speech. It is also where President Lincoln’s body lay in state in 1865, following his assassination. By the 1860s, the building had become too small for the growing state of Illinois, and construction began on the current Illinois State Capitol in 1868. In 1876, the state government moved to the current State Capitol, and the building was given to Sangamon County to serve as a courthouse. In 1898-1899, the building was heavily modified, with the original structure being lifted 11 feet to accommodate the addition of a new first floor, and the interior was completely renovated to serve as a courthouse. By the 1960s, the building was too small for the growing needs of Sangamon County, and a new courthouse was completed in 1966, allowing the county courts and government to move out of the building. The building’s facade was subsequently carefully deconstructed, and the wooden and brick interior structure was demolished in 1966. Between 1966 and 1969, the entire square was excavated to construct a subterranean parking garage and office building, while a new modern structure was constructed above ground level, and was clad in the original building’s exterior facade, while the interior was reconstructed to represent how the building looked like circa 1860, when President Abraham Lincoln was elected, and the building was still in use as the state capitol. Thus, the building as it stands today is structurally a modern reconstruction of the original, but incorporates the original exterior of the old state capitol, and a carefully restored interior. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966, and is a contributing structure in the Central Springfield Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and expanded to its present size in 2016.. The building today is a historical museum, and occasionally hosts ceremonies, including state constitutional conventions, and being the place where President Barrack Obama announced his intention to run for President in 2007, as well as being where future President Obama introduced his running mate, future President Joe Biden, in 2008.

Built in 1927-1929, this Gothic Revival-style building was designed by George F. Schreiber to serve as the Scottish Rite Cathedral for the freemasons of the city of Indianapolis.
