NEW DIMENSIONS It has been so much fun to paint the first non-dimension seascape that I decided to work on a little series . I should admit that I don’t care much about theory usually but this is really intriguing: The Möbius strip has the mathematical property of being non-orientable and is also a ruled surface. A strip model can easily be created by taking a paper strip and giving it a half-twist, and then merging the ends of the strip together to form a single strip. It is of great interest in topology, being a one-sided surface (a line can be drawn along the strip of paper that will cover both sides, returning to the starting-point to meet itself). It was co-discovered independently by the German mathematicians A. F. Möbius and J. B. Listing in 1858. 🎨 25 x 32 mm watercolor miniature. 🔎 Closer views at woodcastles.de - link in bio 🔍 ∞ #mobiusstrip #möbius #opticalillusion #instaartexplorer #artsupporting #artists_magazine #artmagazine #instaartlovers #illustrate #art_realism #artsanity #art_conquest #artshub #art_sharez #artinity #instartist_ #theartmachine #arts_help #artist_publicity #tacart #art_4share #rtistic_feature #artist_publicity #topdraw #mizu_art #artofdrawing #arts_secret #art_worldly #drawinggrid #arts_mag

This photo feature was prepared c2008 for a magazine specialising in Maltese transport, and subsequently re-formatted for a personal project. The full text follows:
"A development of the Dennis Lance, the SLF (super low floor) model was built between 1993 and 1996. Most of the 105 built had Wright Pathfinder bodies, including 38 dual-door buses delivered to London Buses in 1994. Amongst the last buses bought before the company was privatised, they were one of the first low-floor types supplied to a British operator. They were later operated by UK North in Manchester, but stored after that operator’s demise. Closely following the initial four Leyland Lynxes, three of the former London Dennis Lance SLFs (L32/4/8 WLH) were imported into Malta in April 2007, introducing the products of a bodybuilder new to the Maltese market. Two found immediate buyers, whilst the third spend some time in a dealer’s yard. Having reportedly arrived in very poor condition, all three have benefited from major rebuilding, which has included removal of the centre door. DBY 337 (L34 WLH) was the first to enter service in November 2007 after extensive rebuilding at Scarnif Coachworks; it is owned by ‘Bananeno’ of Mellieha. FBY 699 (L38 WLH) also spent some time at Scarnif but much of the work was carried out by owner, Albert Camilleri of Naxxar. FBY 732 (L32 WLH) was rebuilt by John Galea of St Paul's Bay and sprayed by Cancu; it is owned by Nenu Abela. The Lances were in turn followed by a pair of Alexander-bodied Volvo B6Rs, giving rise to much debate about which of the three new types are best suited to Maltese operating conditions. All pictures were taken by Peter Skerry and Stuart Harvey".

Although not famous for its Art Deco architecture, the provincial Victorian city of Ballarat, which was established between the 1860s and 1880s when the area was at the centre of a gold rush, does have some fine examples of interwar and post war architecture when the gold boom was replaced with wealth generated through grazing and agriculture.
"Drewan Court" is a wonderful set of Streamline Moderne red and brown brick flats built on the front of an old Gothic Victorian mansion in Lyons Street. With rounded balconies and Functonalist windowframes, "Drewan Court" achieve the refreshingly sleek style that was popular in the mid to late 1930s.
Unlike many Art Deco buildings which focussed on angular detail, Streamline Moderne buildings often placed emphasis on rounded edges, as though they were standing up against a great wind. The rounded concrete rendered windows are prime examples of such architectural features. Aside from these and a small amount of feature brickwork, the detail on these flats is minimal.

super excited to be featured amongst such talented artists in a lovely 11 page piece in computers arts magazine this month. the article: Illustration - Today and Tomorrow - looks at "how leading artists are climbing to new heights"
this is the front double opening page of story - you can see my piece, "there's no place like home", in the bottom right hand corner.
the text reads as follows:
"jo 'miss led' henly is another illustrator whose work is making people take notice. she's not only dabbling in the uk art scene - she's used it to launch her career. after falling into teaching art, she realised she was inspiring others to do what she was frightened of doing herself. subsequent work invovled online and offline exhibitions closer in concept than illustration work. everything was self-initiated. this gave her the confidence to keep pushing boundaries, thereby increasing the creativity and experimentation in her work. inspired by poster pop, pre-raphaelite portraits, graffiti and art nouveau, her free flowing, almost classic illustration style came about on its own. she is now regularly taking on editioral work as well as further opportunities in the art space.
when secretwars wars took their live drawing competition to the designersblock festival in london last september, henly emerged the winner. she says, "being the only female ever to enter was enough for me, but after three exhausting hours over a 20x8-foot wall space, four rounds and four stories , i was victorious!"
Featuring paintings by 122 contemporary Korean artists, the exhibition curated by Professor Ju Tae Sook at the Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre, Greams Road, Chennai, displayed a fascinating cross-section of styles and techniques. The exhibition was held from 30-07-2015 to 06-08.2015

Tame Impala win at Rolling Stone Awards...
Tame Impala have taken out the Rolling Stone Award for Album of the Year thanks to their second album Lonerism.
The Perth psych-rockers collected the award for a second time in their short career, having won in 2011 with debut album Innerspeaker.
The latest accolade, presented at a star-packed music industry bash in Sydney, adds to the international clamour around the band and its frontman Kevin Parker.
Lonerism made history as the first Australian album to be hailed an album of the year by music bible NME and topped several end of year lists, while at home it was worthy of Triple J's coveted J Award.
Australian music promoter and The Mushroom Group founder Michael Gudinski received the other major honour in the annual Rolling Stone Award, which recognises an outstanding contribution to popular culture. Past recipients have included Cold Chisel and Paul Kelly.
Other winners on Wednesday night included Melbourne singer/producer Chet Faker who claimed best independent release for his acclaimed Thinking In Textures EP.
In a good year for rock music, Byron Bay metalcore band Parkway Drive were named best live act, while Cairns four-piece The Medics got the nod for best new talent.
The Presets scooped best single for their inventive electro-shanty Ghosts, while Gotye's single Easy Way Out was awarded the music video of the year thanks to the direction of Darcy Prendergast.
Held at Bondi's Beach Road Hotel, the fourth annual Rolling Stone Awards were hosted by Beasts of Bourbon and Dark Horses frontman Tex Perkins and featured a performance by rising starlet Owl Eyes.
The guest list included bands visiting for the Big Day Out festival tour, such as Vampire Weekend, Band Of Horses, Alabama Shakes and Crystal Castles.

He's hitting the ground running with a board meeting today, a Fishermen's Retreat this weekend, and a whole summer of youth camps and family vacations to prepare for in the weeks ahead.
The transition of leadership has been smooth thanks to Bob Phillips and Mike Anthony's dedicated efforts to pass the baton quickly and efficiently.

Again Kevin Connor, would be at the helm of another dinosaur heavy film, based on the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs. This time, however, the production team would have a bigger budget to work with, which would lead to the use of higher grade effects, more imaginative sets and more sexy women in the cast.
The film, like it's predecessor featured both a great adventure story and excellent miniature special effect work. However, I couldn't get past the fact that the story was very similar to that of the "Planet of the Apes" sequel "Beneath the Planet of the Apes." Which brings up the question of whether "The People That Time Forgot" was altered to be more like the "Apes" sequel? Or was "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" inspired by the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel? It all may be a coincidence, but there are too many similarities to get into here. Fans who have seen both films should be able to pick them out rather easily.
The film features enough dinosaurs and attractive women to have kept any 70s teen boy on the edge of his seat for the full 90 minutes. Any sci-fi buff would have been satisfied with the cool dinosaur scenes, but the "jiggle factor" didn't hurt the films appeal. Don't get me wrong. The film has a lot more to offer then "eye candy", but if you could keep your eyes off Dana Gillespie (Ajor) for more than a minute you would be a stronger man than me.
The heroines of the film are not just for show. The are both strong and sexy at the same time. In fact probably stronger and smarter than the male characters, attributes many female fans may find very liberating in a 1970s film aimed at a male audience.
The story starts off shortly after the events of "The Land That Time Forgot." The message that Bowen Tyler cast into the sea has been discovered and has made it into the hands of his comrade, Ben McBride, who has assembled a team to search for the fabled island of Caprona.
The team follows Tyler's instructions and Caprona is located. A small group consisting of McBride, Lady Charlotte Cunningham (Who's father fronted the money for the expedition), Dr. Edwin Norfolk (A paleontologist) and Hogan (Pilot) take flight aboard a seaplane in hopes of flying over the islands mountain peaks in an attempt to find Tyler's prehistoric oasis. Their flight however is interrupted by a menacing Pterodactyl who buzzes the plane several times before crashing into the propeller breaking it into several pieces. The team is forced to land on a very rocky hilltop.
No worse for ware the group decides to press on with the search for Tyler while Hogan remained behind to fix the plane. Their trek through jungles of Caprona produce several hair raising dinosaur encounters and one English speaking cave women, Ajor, who befriended Tyler before he was captured by an advanced race known as "The Skulls".
The Skulls, who are clad in Samurai armor, capture the group and take the women to be used as a sacrifice for the Volcano God. Through some trickery and handy sword fighting the men manage to find Tyler, rescue the women and escape the monster filled catacombs.
The Volcano God becomes angry that it did not receive it's sacrifice and begins to destroy the island with explosions and fountains of molten rock. In the ensuing chase Tyler is killed by the Skulls who intern fall victim to the river of lava. The rest of the group, however, manages to get to the already repaired plane just in time to escape the destruction and return safely to the ship.
Amicus would also produce another film based on the work of Edgar Rice Burroughs, helmed by Kevin Connor and starring Doug McClure in 1976 called "At The Earth's Core". The duo of Connor and McClure would again come together for "Warlords of Atlantis" in 1978, but this time not for Amicus, but rival EMI instead.
The Rapunzel Feature Doll has been fully deboxed. She is standing, supported by a Kaiser doll stand.
The recently released Disney Store Deluxe Feature Rapunzel Doll. She is part of the line of new 16 inch singing Princess dolls for 2015. They not only sing, but each also comes with an accessory and have other special features. They also come in a sturdy reusable box with a satin carrying handle. They are available online and in stores in North America, and cost $49.95 each. Rapunzel I think is the most impressive doll in the line, and the most different from previous singing dolls of the same character.
Once the 'try me' switch is detached, you trigger the sound and lights by sliding the lantern back and forth a little way along her hand. There is a LED light in the palm of her hand that flickers while she is singing, and lights up the lantern. She sings about 35 seconds of the 'Healing Incantation' song very clearly and just the right volume. The sound is better than any previous DS singing doll that I have heard. The gentleness of the song, with accompanying lights, and the beauty of the doll, makes for a very moving experience. I don't think I will get tired of hearing the song and seeing the lights on this doll.
