A feature of the more traditional Chinese Spring Festival Temple Fairs, or those trying to retain elements of tradition, is the folk dancing and performances accompanied by the beat of drums, tinny clash of cymbals and high-pitched wind instruments.
The performers themselves are generally members of the aged community decked out in garish costumes, gaudy make-up and flashing toothy ear-to-ear smiles. There are traditional characters involved and a story to be told but I have yet to find an English interpretation of its origin or meanings but there is invariably a horse, a drunkard, a princess in a carriage, slapstick visual humour and a lot of male/female role reversal amongst the characters - a Chinese pantomime of sorts.
These performances are conducted at length and on multiple occasions each day of the festival and are a true testament to the devotion and enthusiasm of the participants.

According to dream analysis, to dream of skyscrapers represents accomplishments, high ideals, or power. Being recognized for ones superior achievements, resources or talents. One may view themselves, by others, as superior. An area of ones life where they feel they have risen above others. As well as elevated social or professional status. Rendering of the West Gallery on the main floor of Soldiers Memorial, which will exhibit WWII & Post WWII military history. The stunning central circular case and architectural details of the room will be carefully preserved. Though interior windows will be covered to protect the artifacts on display from damaging sunlight, the original Art Deco metalwork will remain visible from the outside.
The core galleries on the main floor of Soldiers Memorial will feature a long-term exhibition in four sections: Pre WWI, WWI, WII, and Post WWII. Between 250 and 300 artifacts will be on display, ranging from the earliest artifacts in the collection from the War of 1812 all the way up to the War on Terror. Soldiers Memorial will reopen November 2018. Rendering by Gallagher & Associates.
The famous St. Louis arch in an attempt to be artistic. One can see this negative did not age well. I did spend time cleaning up the surface of this scan but I wasn't sure how to correct the "faded" condition of the left two-thirds portion of the image.

ISS017-E-019616 (16 Oct. 2008) --- A dust storm in Turkmenistan, Central Asia is featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 17 crewmember on the International Space Station. This west-looking view, taken with a short focal length lens from the station, shows a wide swath of central Asia--from Afghanistan, along the length of Turkmenistan to the Caspian Sea. Winds blowing down the largest river valley in the region, the Amudarya, were strong enough to raise a large dust storm. Dust appears as a light brown mass extending into the center of the image from the lower right. Diffuse dust from prior windy weather appears over much of the area making a regional haze that clouds much of the landscape detail. The haze partly obscures the irrigated agriculture in Turkmenistan and entirely obscures the Caspian Sea. Numerous rivers rise in the Hindu Kush mountain complex (lower left). The Band-i Amir River is a major tributary of the main regional river, the Amudarya, which it reaches via a deep canyon. The Amudarya River was the major historical contributor of water to the Aral Sea, but today extensive diversion of river water for agricultural purposes has lead to extensive exposure and desiccation of the sea bed. The exposed sea bed is a major source of saline dusts contaminated with agricultural chemicals that pose a significant environmental hazard to central Asia. To a lesser extent, dusts are also mobilized from sediments along the Amudarya river channel. The Paropamisus Range and the Amudarya (also known as the Oxus River) are mentioned in histories of Alexander the Great''s famous military expedition from Greece to India. His horsemen made a fast side excursion from near the Caspian Sea (top right) as far as the Amudarya (lower right).

Earth Designs Garden Design and Build were asked to created a landscape and propose garden design in Leytonstone, London here are the details of the project.
The Terrace House Garden in Leytonstone, London E11
BRIEF:
This plot was a long urban garden and was almost completely bare, but for two large, established trees. The client was attempting to construct a pond in the near right corner using green slate boulders as decoration, and requested that this should be included in the design.
The interior of the house had a modern, contemporary feel fused with Victorian architecture. As the patio doors lead directly from the kitchen/diner into the garden, the garden becomes very much an extension of the house – as such the style of the interiorwas of particular consideration in the design the exterior space.
SOLUTION:
The final design created a low maintenance garden with a simple and contemporary feel. The area directly behind the house was laid with decking, running half way down the left side of the space. New wooden fences, to replace the existing worn out wire fences, were erected down the right of the garden, onto which a selection of clematis and everlasting sweet peas were trained.
The main area of the garden consisted of a tapered, oval shaped lawn, encircled by a raised bed following the same shape as the lawn. A smaller, tapered oval raised bed in the middle of the lawn served to slightly mask the bottom of the garden, breaking up the space and helping to create a sense of intrigue.
The simplicity of the borders was echoed in the planting, which consisted of white flowers and green foliage. Cool, crisp and elegant, a white planting scheme provides an air of harmony and tranquillity, and is well suited to the style of the garden and the interior of the house. An area devoted to graceful architectural ferns helped to accentuate the simplicity
of the space and serves to provide a stunning and effective display throughout the year.
Re-designing the layout of the client’s existing pond, using state boulders together with a powerful pump to produce an effective waterfall, helped to create a striking water feature. The pond and surrounding area was given life with the addition of water lilies and other aquatic and semi-aquatic plants. A bowed Cedrus libani (ssp.atlantica) ‘Glauca’, trailing branches in the water, presented the final flourish to the space.
TESTIMONIAL:
“Katrina and her team worked extremely hard and long hours to complete the garden quickly and with minimum disruption to our home. Considering that we have no access other than through the entire house, there was almost no disruption to our lives.
Watching the garden grow from its original design and come to life was amazing. It exceeded our expectations completely, and the aftercare pack and service offered by Earth Designs was brilliant.
We have no hesitation in recommending Earth Designs to any of our friends, who have also been amazed with our fantastic new garden - of course we have been showing it off at every sunny opportunity. Thanks to Katrina and her team at Earth Designs for such a fantastic design, utilising the space brilliantly and creating an outside space that we are extremely proud of.”
