In case you were wondering, this is how GIZMODO describes itself.... "At Gizmodo—or, "Giz" for short—we love technology, we love gadgets, we love science, we love all kind of toys big and small. We love beautiful and smart design, we love architecture that you dream of living and working in, aircraft that fly at three times the speed of sound, spaceships that reach every corner of the solar system, sleek vessels that sail across Earth's oceans, geek culture, science-fiction, and all things weird and wonderful that geeks would love. And we love to write about all those things..."

So after borrowing the Harlot for a photoshoot meetup event at my studio I was invited to do a feature shoot of the bike for Show Class magazine. The magazine is a dedicated subscription monthly book about the chopper world. Die hards know about it, the average magazine rack at your local store does not. This was exciting because of the credibility that is involved with getting your bike featured in such a mag, so when Eric the owner contacted me and asked if I would shoot for it, I jumped at the chance.
Rather than doing the typical portraits of a chopper amongst an auto shop, or near some industrial estate, I thought we could do something a bit different. Lots of the back alleys and old houses in the neighborhood nearby offered an "off the mainstream path" sort of depiction without getting out of the city. Neighborhoods where these enthusiasts tinker in their small garages, simply because they love the craft and art of these bikes. Seeing the dirt, overgrowth, and alike, meant that this isn't some poser show bike; it's a bike that gets to ride and be seen. We decided on almost 20 images for the article, but these two I've included I thought really captured the vibe of the day, and the rest were detail shots that showcase the build of the bike.

The Trona Pinnacles are an unusual geological feature in the California Desert National Conservation Area. The landscape consists of more than 500 tufa spires (porous rock formed as a deposit when springs interact with other bodies of water), some as high as 140 feet (43 m), rising from the bed of the Searles Lake (dry) basin. The pinnacles vary in size and shape from short and squat to tall and thin, and are composed primarily of calcium carbonate (tufa). They now sit isolated and slowly crumbling away near the south end of the valley, surrounded by many square miles of flat, dried mud and with stark mountain ranges at either side.
During the Pleistocene, massive runoff spilled from the Sierra Nevada into a chain of inland seas. The system of interconnected lakes stretched from Mono Lake to Death Valley and included Searles Lake. Deep beneath Searles Lake, calcium-rich groundwater and alkaline lake water combined to grow tufa formations. Similar (modern) formations can be found today at Mono Lake to the north. Known as tufa pinnacles, these strange shapes formed underwater 10,000 to 100,000 years ago. The pinnacles did not all form at the same time. They are divided by age and elevation into three groups. The groups are dubbed the northern, middle, and southern groups because they formed during three ice ages.
The northern group is the youngest at 11,000 to 25,000 years old. These are the best examples of what are known as tufa towers. The northern group also include shapes called tombstones, ridges and cones. The small middle group claims only 100 spires, but boasts the tallest "tower", rising 140 feet (43 m). The southern group, includes 200 tufa formations aged 32,000 to 100,000 years old.
The Pinnacles are recognizable in more than a dozen hit movies. Over thirty film projects a year are shot among the tufa pinnacles, including backdrops for car commercials and sci-fi movies and television series such as Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Disney's Dinosaur, The Gate II: Trespassers, Lost in Space, and Planet of the Apes. The music video for Lady Gaga's 2020 single "Stupid Love" was also filmed here.

Deboxing the Rapunzel Feature Doll. Rapunzel's inner box slides out from the bottom, not the top of the box. First you have to detach the 'try me' switch from the front window by undoing two layers of tape. Once freed from the tape, it can be pushed back through a hole in the box to fall inside the box. The other end of the switch plugs into a socket in the back of the doll, and is detachable once the doll is deboxed. Then the doll is removed from the box, still attached to the inner backing. The backing can free stand, and now the doll is in the clear.
The recently released Disney Store Deluxe Feature Rapunzel Doll. She is part of the line of new 16 inch singing Princess dolls for 2015. They not only sing, but each also comes with an accessory and have other special features. They also come in a sturdy reusable box with a satin carrying handle. They are available online and in stores in North America, and cost $49.95 each. Rapunzel I think is the most impressive doll in the line, and the most different from previous singing dolls of the same character.
Once the 'try me' switch is detached, you trigger the sound and lights by sliding the lantern back and forth a little way along her hand. There is a LED light in the palm of her hand that flickers while she is singing, and lights up the lantern. She sings about 35 seconds of the 'Healing Incantation' song very clearly and just the right volume. The sound is better than any previous DS singing doll that I have heard. The gentleness of the song, with accompanying lights, and the beauty of the doll, makes for a very moving experience. I don't think I will get tired of hearing the song and seeing the lights on this doll.
I have learned something new! I have l learned how to do my own post processing! Finally a shot not processed by my husband! But I defiantly wont take things too far! I know a little goes a long way, but I also know my other shot of this rock, from a less close up view is just simply not as nice. The color is better on this one. The warmth in the rock, right down to the green moss and the blue in the water.
Oh happy new year to us and our adventures. Of learning and taking great photos for all of us to look at. I look forward to seeing what 2010 has to bring!
I've finally gotten around to deboxing the Elsa Deluxe Feature Doll. I am way more impressed with her than I thought I would be. As with the Rapunzel Feature doll, the Try Me button on Elsa makes her sing about 10 seconds of Let It Go, and the lights in her forearms and cape turn on. The ten lights on the cape alternately light up on one side then the other as she sings. Once the Try Me button is detached from the front window, we can slide the doll out from the bottom of the box. The Try Me button is attached to her back, along with the lights on her cape. After the Try Me button is unplugged from her back, Elsa's sound and lights are triggered by sliding her ice swirl accessory a little way along her right hand. It is a bit hard to do the first time you try it, as the fit is very snug on her hand, and you have to push the bottom of the accessory very hard to get it to switch on her special effects. She sings about 30 seconds of Let It Go, the same segment as the older 16 inch singing Elsa doll. The singing is very clear, and just the right volume. I haven't compared the old doll with the new yet, as I need to replace the batteries on the old doll. The most outstanding feature of the doll is her cape, which has a glittery pattern of snowflakes and icicles completely covers the cape, and is even more detailed than the Classic Elsa's cape. It is slightly longer than floor length, so can hold its position. It is fully lined, to enclose the lights inside the cape. The other awesome feature of the doll are her semi transparent blue ice heels, which also have some glitter embedded.

*Featured Desktop on Lifehacker.com*
While looking at minimalistic wallpapers, I found this wallpaper and an idea sparked in my head. Wouldn't it be cool to have desktop information "reflected" in the mirrors of the wallpaper? I thought so, especially since I hadn't previously seen something like this done.
What's In this Desktop:
[Wallpaper:]
- Link. What you see in the screen shot is a slightly modified version I did to accommodate for the task bar.
[Icons:]
[Taskbar:]
The invisible taskbar can be found here.
[Rainmeter:]
- 10-Foot HUD
- Simple Sentence for the weather temps and conditions.
- Lines for the RAM and CPU measures

Full-Size screen shot of the desktop.
I have this entire suite bundled in a Rainstaller file for easy installation! (Scaled to 1440x900) AND now since the amount of traffic I got to download this file, I have moved a fixed installer to a file hosting site:
If the Rainstaller doesn't work for you:
Then download the zip archive of the skins at the link below. Just copy the skins into the Rainmeter directory in My Documents and restart Rainmeter.
Have any comments, tips, or tweaks you think it could use? Let me know!
