We walked past this pole several times thinking this was the most fearless hawk we'd ever encountered. But there was more on his mind than the three of us Saturday morning. There were a pair of red shouldered hawks flying past his perch, being chased by grackles and red wing black birds. The bobcat was about fifty feet away. A couple of cooper's hawks were flying between trees. All the birds were squawking and screeching. No bird species, bobcat or us was going to get this hawk to fly away with its breakfast.
My son felt bad for me since my entire season was cancelled, so he arranged for me to take some photos at Fearless MMA (where he trains). I didn't want to use a flash, so my ISO was cranked up and I shot through the fencing when they were in the cage.
I found myself eye to eye with this great beast, frozen with fear all I could think of was grabbing my camera and firing off a shot.. Then I heard my son " Dad are you done yet, we want to go to the next exhibit."
The American Dipper is a fantastic swimmer and agile flier. She is named so because she dips her head and body repeatedly. She stands on a rock or in flowing water, in rapids and waterfalls. She can live on slippery rocks right at the brink, so to me she seems totally fearless. I always look for Ouzels wherever there is whitewater!
This one is sitting in a big spring tumbling into the Metolius River a short distance along the West Bank Trail.

I am one breath away from the life I’m meant to lead.

I was talking on the phone to my friend Mariah when I took this. It's about time I uploaded something!
(waiting to get my film developed) I've seen so many great pictures lately. I hope you like this!
My English friend, Lee is over for a visit. I thought I took chances for a shot but he's a grand master at getting the shot he wants.

the duck that wasn't afraid

This duck is clearly a city-dweller. When my Dad, spending some time on photography with me today, took this photo earlier it appeared ready to pose for him as long as needed. My tendency is actually to hope a creature like this would retain some basic healthy fear of the humans around it for its own sake. Nevertheless for now he did present a very beautiful, personal moment in reasonably good light. Thanks to my Dad "B" for contributing this very interesting shot as he has no other online photography presence for presentation here!
A friend sent me this during an IM exchange a few days ago. I burst into tears over it, and did a screen shot so I could read it whenever I'm feeling like the scardy cat I really am.
Pablo was in the stroller when Mattia (his father) and Mike decided to give him some excitement by jumping off a wall, towards him, yelling like bears. Pablo is 7 months. And now he is fearless forever. Word.
