As I was sitting under the veranda on this rainy day, I suddenly saw this Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) land in our backyard. As it is not a regular visitor, I observed how it checked every corner of the garden, probably in search of some grubs, As I sat idle on my chair, I suppose it didn't see me as a threat and finally came to check on me, too :)
“ To me, Fearless is not the absense of fear. It's not being completely unafraid. To me, Fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, Fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death.”
― Taylor Swift
Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my best friend. I won't see her for an entire year and that makes me terribly sad.

“Every bird of prey looks over its shoulder before it goes in for the kill, even a hawk. Even they know to watch their backs – every single one but an eagle. It’s fearless.”
― Michelle Horst, Wake Me Up
The African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer), is a large species of eagle found throughout sub-Saharan Africa wherever large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply occur.
The African fish eagle feeds mainly on fish, which it swoops down upon from a perch in a tree, snatching the prey from the water with its large, clawed talons. The eagle then flies back to its perch to eat its catch.
This formidable African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) was captured, coming in to pick it's prey during a photography safari on an early morning boat ride on Lake Baringo, Kenya.

A wonderful female blackbird in our garden, not bothered in the slightest by my lens. Such a strong, wonderful creature.

She didn't move for almost an hour
I apologize for not being very "social" or responsive these days. I'm very busy and trade my time there when available against step by step "improving" darckr. Please accept to consider that this tool is my main way of thanking you all.

Even the most evil look cannot change that :-)

I am watching this viking ship, an art of work, a wooden marvel and a marine technical wonder of its time. The tools were simple and everything had to be made by hand. I also try to understand the level navigational skills and fearlessness these voyagers had when traveling in these open ships. I am simply impressed!

"Life without fear doesn't last very long--you'll be run over by a bus (or a boss) before you know it. The fearless person, on the other hand, sees the world as it is (fear included) and then makes smart (and brave) decisions."
Seth Godin
AN AFFIRMATION OF SELFLESS LOYALTY
My fearless heart
Of diamond clarity
Where expression and thought
Are proof of your bravery, justice and swiftness
That cut through ignorance and malcontent
To reveal the pristine awareness of being
Where the freedom of the mind
Is like the sweet chorus of the birds

Sometimes the reinforcement of gracious qualities and love can be a good thing.
So I decided to start an Album on Flickr doing just that.
I like to take shots of the things I have collected over the years that are sharing their presence with me in my home.
Some of my Grail shots have this quality, but often the poem ends up being longer than an affirmation, to me they end up more like a prayer. You can see the Album that contains those works in my Flickr account as well.
But in a sense this is the same principle, as the things I have collected over the years often have a sacred presence or meaning, so I thought I would start to share them here.
On rainy days or when I am not in a writing mood, it is good to still keep working, using the camera in this way, and it is not only enjoyable, it is an opportunity to appreciate these wonderful sacred items and sculptures all over again, and listen to what they have to say.
This Garuda is a modern piece, but the history, energy and protective instinct is the same as from his first incarnation.
This shot is from where he resides, in my glass cabinet, where I keep many other precious things..

I recently went on a trip to the Baltic Sea, looking for a bird hide or something similar. The designated nature reserve on that stretch of beach turned out to be off limits – fair enough, since it’s there to protect the birds. I had already seen some mergansers, gulls, and ducks in the distance and was about to call it a day when, suddenly, only a few meters in front of me this little Purple Sandpiper (Calidris maritima) appeared. Picking its way through the seaweed, it seemed completely unbothered by my presence. I was lucky to meet such a calm winter guest so close – no hide could have brought me nearer.

Visiting with some family, and they have a dog called Lily. A shih tzu. She's sweet unless you get her riled up.
Alopochen aegyptiaca, African native known locally as Egyptian Goose. Fairly common here in parks and green spaces with ponds. Not shy about approaching strangers to ask for a handout. Not so ugly as the slightly larger native Muscovy Ducks, who share the Freeloader niche.
Happy Bird Thursday!
The face of determination in my youngest as he flashed one more look of "try and stop me!" before he crawled right into the water. Unlike his older brother (my serious little guy, the old soul) he had no fear of the water. He sat and laughed as the waves came lapping up over his toes and legs. He even tried to take put his face in it before Dad interfered. He is at an awkward age - not walking yet but old enough to be impatient and frustrated with being left out of the other kids activities. He had watched them from his stroller, laughing and playing in the sand. He knew exactly what he wanted to do when we finally let him explore the sand. Forget about sand, dirt and rocks. He headed straight for the water. It was an absolute mess getting him out of that sandy sopping wet little bear suit in order to ride home. And he howled the whole time as if expressing the injustice of the situation. Exhausted later but happy I laughed looking through the pictures I'd gotten of his first experience with the "beach". He had been absolutely fearless. A picture of determination. The little blue bear crawling into the water. May we all be as fearless to try new things and experience the unknown. (bear suit or not ha!)
