Double Yellows

On the 2nd May 2024 at 11am in the morning our 190 litre LPG Gas bottle was filled by the gas company as part of a routine refilling schedule.

At just after 5 pm that same day, for as yet unexplained reasons, that gas bottle began forcefully venting gas vertically high into the air after a valve apparently gave way.

On hearing a loud hissing sound from inside the house, my son went outside to investigate. Seeing the gas bottle forcefully venting he attempted unsuccessfully to turn off the valve. My attempt also met with failure.

At this point we immediately rang the gas company and were directed to Auckland in New Zealand as it was after 5pm. They then alerted the Australian arm of the company to despatch a gas technician to the property.

In the meantime, we rang Emergency Services and within 30 minutes we had 5 fire brigades and more than 25 Fire and Rescue personel on the scene.

Before they arrived, we had placed a wet towel over top of the valve though this did little to stem the flow. The venting of gas probably lasted an hour and filled the forest below the house like a cloud of mist.

Fortunately, no-one started any of the 3 cars located within a few metres of the venting gas bottle and after a day at work, it was indeed fortunate that I didn't head off to have a shower, as I might normally do. Had anyone turned on a hot water tap the electric igniter on the gas hot water service would very likely have ignited the copious quantities of gas, by this time densely inside the house and widely dispersed outside the house and throughout the nearby forest.

When the Emergency Services arrived they parked one of the large Fire and Rescue trucks about 15 metres from the gas bottle. A distance their hoses could easily reach.

They set their hose on a fine mist spray and sprayed the gas bottle for at least another 40 minutes until the company's gas technician arrived to inspect, repair or attempt to shut down the venting valve.

Following the inspection, he passed me on his way back his vehicle to get his tools and he said he did not know why the valve had given way and that he might have to "shove a screwdriver in it."

Whatever he did worked and he successfully stopped the gas bottle from venting and somehow bypassed the valve which gave us access to the gas for hot water that evening.

When the last of the fire brigade crew left one of the senior ranking firemen told me that they had never seen this type of valve failure in a household installation but they had experienced it in caravan parks and other public installations where vandalism was believed to be the reason for the valve failure.

He was not suggesting however that I, nor anyone else had vandalised the valve. He was simply implying that the reason it happened was due to a mechanical fault and that that needed a thorough investigation to ensure it doesn't happen again.

So far though I've not been advised of the results of any investigation into the incident by either the gas company or the fire brigade.

The next morning a new 190litre gas bottle was delivered and the faulty one taken away, hopefully to be fully inspected to try to ascertain the reasons for its failure.

It was indeed a very frightening event for us all and just lucky that events panned out the way they did.

Our plan now, as soon as possible, is to install a solar hot water service and separately, install an electric heat pump to replace the gas bottle which is used ostensibly to heat our indoor swimming pool, apart from supplying gas to our household hot water heater for showers and kitchen/laundry purposes.

The emergency response was about as fast as was possible, though the gas technician did arrive well after the fire brigades. When he did arrive, he was very quick to shut down the gas bottle. There must be lessons to be learned from incidents such as this one and hopefully that will be the case.

The overall emergency response was massive though commendable, second only to the 2019 bushfires in our area.

Fears of another calamitous incident, like the one that occurred in Tuncurry, NSW a few years earlier, when a gas bottle exploded blowing up the house and killing the house owner were never far from mind.

We expressed our immense gratitude to the gas technician and the Fire and Rescue Services for their swift arrival on the scene and for the professional way they went about averting the crisis.

Trying to be helpful by carrying out a bag of shoes, but didn't quite make it to the car.

Hannah's 24-105L looks like it's on the blink - seems to be the AF.

It doesn't help that she's going away on holiday soon!

These are a couple of my random test shots, NOT deliberately posed (or composed!), but which came out quite interesting!

Here, Hannah caught wondering what we're gonna do about the lens situation.

I checked on the welfare of the eagles and their status as to whether eggs have been laid. Utility construction is anticipated to take place just in front of the nest this morning. Crews did not show up while I was there. When I arrived at the nest at about 8:30 AM the female (Jewel) was roosting on the nest support branch just in front of the nest. I checked usual roosts but found no other eagle present. The nest appeared to be empty. At 8:57 AM the male (Pride) flew in from behind the nest with an unidentified prey item. He left the prey in the nest and the female joined him and started eating. Pride then flew up to the same branch which had been occupied by Jewel. The female continued eating. They both then flew up to a perch above and just left (east) of the nest. They began calling and then copulated at 9:19 AM. Following this they roosted side by side. They remained in this position when I departed at around 10:00 AM. Definitely no eggs have been deposited as of this morning, and Jewel did not exhibit any "broody" behavior such as spending time deep in the nest. The FPL workers replaced the defective switch early in the afternoon. Their biologist saw only one adult, roosting at the nest the entire time they worked. The job only took about one hour.

This is the return outlet in to my pool, exposed thanks to a faulty filter valve which drained water from the pool whilst filtering at the same time. This is normally underwater so I had to take the opportunity to get this magnificent spray. I would like to say this is SOOC but alas it is SOOACR (Straight out of Adobe Camera Raw). Hope you like it, either please leave a comment as I am interested to hear your thoughts on the processing.

The repair of water fixtures in your home can have numerous benefits and advantages, especially when dealing with broken pipes. Whether it's a leaky faucet, a malfunctioning showerhead, or a faulty toilet, addressing these standard fixtures promptly can save you from potential water damage, reduce your water bills, and prolong the lifespan of your fixtures. You can avoid costly repairs or replacements by fixing minor issues before they become significant problems. Repairing household plumbing fixtures also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing water wastage.

Additionally, it helps maintain your home's aesthetics, ensuring a clean and presentable appearance. Repairing household plumbing fixtures is a relatively simple task that can be done yourself or by hiring a professional plumbing team, depending on your expertise and comfort level, along with the expertise of experienced plumbers. So, whether you are a DIY enthusiast or prefer to enlist professional services, taking care of household plumbing fixture repairs is an investment that can pay off in the long run.

Common Causes of Faucet Leaks

One of the most common causes of faucet leaks is cracked washers. Over time, the constant use of faucets can cause the washer to wear out or crack, resulting in water leakage. To prevent this, it is advisable to regularly check the condition of washers and replace them if necessary, including simple repairs.

Another common cause of faucet leaks is defective valves. Valves control water flow; if faulty, they may not fully close, leading to a continuous drip. To avoid this, it is essential to ensure that the valves are correctly installed and maintained, including simple repairs.

Faulty seals are another culprit behind faucet leaks. Seals provide a watertight connection between different parts of the faucet, and water can seep through when they become worn out or damaged. Regularly inspecting the seals and replacing them when needed can help prevent leaks, including simple repairs.

Excessive force should be avoided when turning faucets on or off to prevent faucet leaks, as this can put unnecessary strain on the washer and other components. Additionally, using quality fixtures and having a professional install them can reduce the risk of plumbing issues in the long run, including simple repairs.

Importance of Addressing Leaky Faucets

Addressing leaky faucets in your home, especially when dealing with plumbing pipes, is crucial to prevent water waste and potentially high water bills. Even a tiny drip from leaky pipes can waste gallons of water yearly, leading to significant financial and environmental consequences.

Water waste is a pressing issue today, and leaky faucets, particularly those made of Stainless steel, contribute to this problem. A seemingly harmless drip can add up over time, wasting gallons of water annually. This burdens our water supply and results in high water bills for homeowners. By fixing leaky faucets promptly, you can conserve this valuable resource and save money.

Investing in high-quality fixtures for your bathroom and kitchen and professional faucet installation service is a wise choice. These fixtures are designed to be durable and long-lasting, reducing the chances of leaks and drips. By choosing reliable fixtures and understanding the appropriate faucet type for your needs, you can effectively prevent potential causes of leaks, such as worn-out seals or faulty valves. In addition to preventing water waste, high-quality fixtures offer water and cost savings in the long run.

Professional Repair Services

Professional repair services for water fixtures offer a range of solutions to ensure the optimal performance of faucets, toilets, and garbage disposals in your home. These services encompass faucet and fixture repairs, as well as installations for various water fixtures.

When it comes to faucet repair and installation, professional plumbers have the expertise to fix leaks, replace worn-out parts, and ensure proper functionality. They can also guide you in selecting and installing new faucets that suit your aesthetic preferences and meet your specific needs.

Toilet installation and repair services cover a wide range of issues, including broken components, leaks, clogs, and inefficient flushing. Whether you need a new toilet installed or an existing one repaired, professionals can ensure a properly functioning toilet that meets water efficiency standards.

When it comes to garbage disposal installation and repair, professional services are essential to minimize the risk of damage or improper installation. These experts can replace a faulty disposal unit, unclog drain pipes, and provide maintenance tips to extend the lifespan of your garbage disposal system.

By utilizing professional repair services, homeowners can enjoy the benefits of efficient and properly functioning water fixtures. Whether it be faucet installation, toilet repair, or garbage disposal services, these professionals provide the necessary expertise to ensure optimal performance and enhance the overall functionality of your water fixtures.

Importance of Timely Repairs

Timely repairs play a crucial role in maintaining the functionality and aesthetics of our homes, especially when it comes to water fixtures like plumbing pipes. Frequent or expensive repairs for plumbing fixtures, including faucet repairs, should be addressed promptly to avoid further damage and excessive spending. By taking care of repairs promptly, we can prevent potential leaks, clogs, and other issues, leading to significant savings in the long run and avoiding extra costs.

When water fixtures are not repaired promptly, they can develop leaks that waste water and damage our homes. Water leaks can result in structural damage, mold growth, and even water contamination. Not only do these issues pose a health risk, but they also lead to costly repairs.

Additionally, timely repairs help us avoid the need for complete fixture replacements. The cost of replacing water fixtures can be substantial, especially if multiple fixtures must be replaced simultaneously. By addressing repairs promptly, we can extend the lifespan of our fixtures and significantly reduce replacement costs.

Moreover, regular repairs help us maintain a modern appearance in our kitchen and bathroom. Outdated fixtures can make our homes look old and dull. By promptly addressing repairs, we can ensure that our water fixtures, including Stainless steel ones, are in good condition, thus maintaining a modern and attractive appearance while fitting into our daily routine.

Preventive Maintenance

Preventive maintenance is crucial in maintaining the efficiency and functionality of plumbing fixtures in our homes, primarily when handled by experienced plumbers. Regularly inspecting and servicing these fixtures can reap numerous benefits and avoid potential breakdowns or costly repairs, thus saving money and time.

Firstly, preventive maintenance significantly increases the efficiency of water fixtures. Over time, mineral deposits, rust, and other debris can accumulate in pipes and fixtures, reducing water flow and increasing water pressure. By routinely cleaning and maintaining these fixtures, we can ensure optimal water flow and pressure, resulting in improved efficiency and performance facilitated using an efficient model.

Secondly, preventive maintenance reduces the risk of breakdowns, so hiring a professional plumber is essential. Minor issues, such as leaking faucets or faucet issues like dripping pipes or clogged drains, may seem insignificant at first glance. However, if left unattended, these minor problems can escalate into significant malfunctions that interrupt the smooth functioning of the plumbing system, causing extensive damage and expensive repairs. Regular maintenance allows for the timely identification and repair of these minor issues, preventing them from snowballing into more significant problems.

Lastly, preventive maintenance makes the faucet hygienic and enables early identification of potential problems. Inspecting water fixtures regularly, professionals can identify signs of wear and tear, corrosion, or faulty components. Addressing these issues in their early stages can help deter significant damage, save money in the long run, and extend the lifespan of these fixtures.

Banteay Kdei, meaning "A Citadel of Chambers", also known as "Citadel of Monks' cells", is a Buddhist temple in Angkor, Cambodia. It is located southeast of Ta Prohm and east of Angkor Thom. Built in the mid-12th to early 13th centuries AD during the reign of Jayavarman VII (who was posthumously given the title "Maha paramasangata pada"), it is in the Bayon architectural style, similar in plan to Ta Prohm and Preah Khan, but less complex and smaller. Its structures are contained within two successive enclosure walls, and consist of two concentric galleries from which emerge towers, preceded to the east by a cloister.

This Buddhist monastic complex is currently dilapidated due to faulty construction and poor quality of sandstone used in its buildings, and is now undergoing renovation. Banteay Kdei had been occupied by monks at various intervals over the centuries until the 1960s.
