One of the rides stuck at its topmost point. The 'passengers', who did not seem unduly alarmed, had to wait for about half an hour while the technical fault was resolved.

Drive side spokes pulling through the rim AND the concave braking surface at the rim join - both sides - Like this from day 1, as you can see, the brake pads have never touched that part of the rim.

I used some faulty info (fns.tumblr.com/) to find Matt Saracen's house from Friday Night Lights. We were staying only a few blocks from it, or so I thought, and by the time I had the correct address (pickyandhealthy.com/2011/08/06/friday-night-lights-austin...) we didn't have time to make it back there. Oh well, it was still cool to be in his hood, and to be in Austin in general! I DID see a Landing Strip ad on TV, that was trippy!

The left and right margin of the image weirdly warp the vertical pixels - faulty Sharp Aquos camera, accidental filter effect, or supernatural magnetic force field among the stones? The nearest stone is carved with the year 12 (Emperor's reign year, counting from accession to throne in 1988 + 12 = 2000 CE). The granite will age better than the traditional stone in the middle distance, center: the greenish gray local quarried shakudani stone. The marker in the middle ground left edge of frame is cylindrical, denoting a Buddhist priest. The lifecycle of cemeteries is a process of crowding up for a few generations, and then when out of the memory of living descendants, as needs must, space is cleared by consolidating all remains into a collective spot and packing up the stones to one side so that new generations can be commemorated for a few generations to come. Or perhaps the practice varies according to the available space and the practices of the particular sect. But in general, that is the course of events.

Towards Social Justice, Inclusion and Democratisation .

In JNU, several struggles have been fought for social inclusion: to restore deprivation points for women, students from deprived backgrounds and backward areas. for recognision of madarsa certificates, for increasing merit-cum-means fellowships and against the faulty cut-off criterion for OBC students. During the past few months, JNUSU has initiated several campaigns to carry forwards this vision of socially inclusive academics and campus: .

../ Significant advances towards reducing weightage of viva marks: Following JNUSU's movement in March 2012, the JNU administration was forced to set up a viva committee for reduction in weightage of viva marks. Throughout the summer, the JNU administration repeatedly resorted to dilly-dallying tactics and provided useless data to this committee. It was only after JNUSU's repeated and timely Interventions that correct data was provided to the committee, though in a hard copy format. JNUSU immediately undertook the task of entering more than 25,000 data sets and analysing trends in the viva marks. As a result of JNUSU's continuous pressure and its resistance to dubious machinations aimed at hiding systemic discrimination, the viva committee has had to admit that there are indeed discriminatory trends in the viva voce. In the days to come, this matter will be discussed in various schools and finally a decision will be taken at the next AC meeting of JNU, as per the process followed for any major policy-level change . .

../ Defending reservations and social justice: This year, immediately after the results for the 2012-13 academic year were announced, JNUSU pointed out and opposed the non-fulfillment of legally mandated OBC/SC/ST/PH reservations. As a result of JNUSU's timely interventions, the JNU administration released second lists this year, in order to fulfill reservations and the Intake mandated by JNU's Academic Council. .

../ Rejection of undemocratic academic norms recommended by the Menon committee: During the AC .

meeting that was held on 191h March 2012, the Menon committee was tabled -which included several highly problematic recommendations like doing away with the relaxations currently given to SC/ST students; foll9wing JNUSU's robust opposition, this was not passed by the AC. .

./ Addressing the language barrier, democratizing education: JNUSU has been continuously arguing that " (\ linguistic capabilities should not be allowed to become an inhibiting factor in academics. The need to ~'institutionalize a mechanism in JNU, wherein important academic texts are translated into various vernacular .

'languages, was raised by JNUSU in the Academic Council meeting of 19th March 2012. Subsequently, the SSS convenor and councilors brought up the issue in the BoS meeting of SSS. In order to build a consensus on this issue in JNU, JNUSU organized an open house on translation of texts, where experts in the field were invited to speak. Deans and Chairpersons from various schools/centres were also invited to participate in the discussion. For the first time in JNU, such an effort to democratize academics has been taken up. .

../ Expanding the scope of financial assistance: At the AC meeting held on 19th March 2012, JNUSU forcefully argued for increasing the MCM scholarship amount, which is currently Rs 1500 per month. The administration has in principle agreed to do so as soon as JNU receives funds under the 12th plan. The administration was also forced to agree in principle to enhance the time period of the UGC non-net scholarship, to cover the entire period of research and has incorporated the same in the 12th plan proposals sent to the UGC. .

../ Speeding up and Democratization of hostel allotment criteria: After JNUSU's repeated interventions, OBC students and general category students are now allotted hostels simultaneously. Also, SC/ST/PH students are now allotted hostel accommodation within a day of applying. .

../ Updating of quartile lists and expansion of scope of recognition of madarsa certificates: After the JNUSU-Ied movement in March 2012, the JNU administration has agreed to set up a committee to update quartile lists, and include more backward districts to ensure more social inclusion. Moreover, the administration also agreed to reactjvate the equivalence committee for recognizing more madarsas. .

../ Barrier-free JNU, and more facilities for PHNH students: In JNU, we have for long been fighting for more .

rights and facilities for PHNH students. This issue was also raised by JNUSU during the 19th March 2012 AC meeting. JNU has now received huge funds towards making JNU a barrier free campus, by improving infrastructure, constructing appropriate facilities in hostels and in the academic premises. A committee, with representation from the visually handicapped and physically handicapped students' forum, as well as JNUSU, has been consUtuted to oversee the implementation of this project. Regarding the problem posed by dogs in the campus, when the VH students launched a struggle, JNUSU extended full support. Together with the VH students' forum, JNUSU pressurized the administration to take holistic steps to handle the situation. Moreover, following a JNUSU-led movement, the existing readers' and escorts' allowance for PHNH students has been increased to Rs 2000 per month. .

./ Strengthening GSCASH: For the first time in the history of JNU, an Institutionalized mechanism to introduce new students to GSCASH and JNU's gender-sensitive ethos has been put in place. Following JNUSU's interventions, mandatory gender sensitization and orientation classes were introduced from this year, where various issues related to sexual harassment and gender were discussed . .

Those arrows are so juicy and high contrast that the customers push on them instead of the dispenser buttons above.

Where else did the designer think the thirsty drinkers would put their cup anyway?

I would have made the cradle bar a brighter color to show customers where to put their cups. Accomplishes the same thing in a more direct way, and stays away from the buttons.
