Pinnacles National Monument, located near the San Andreas Fault along the boundary of the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate, is an excellent example of tectonic plate movement. The Pinnacles Rocks are believed to be part of the Neenach Volcano that occurred 23 million years ago near present-day Lancaster, California, some 195 miles (314 km) southeast. The giant San Andreas Fault split the volcano and the Pacific Plate crept north, carrying the Pinnacles.
Bolinas Ridge, Mount Tamalpais State Park, California
We are standing on Bolinas Ridge on Mount Tamalpais, looking down into Bolinas Bay on the Pacific coast just north of San Francisco. The curved section of coastline is Stinson Beach. Behind the beach is a smaller zig-zag section of sandbar (Dipsea Road), then the Bolinas lagoon, a tidal estuary. Hidden under the ocean waters and lagoon mudflats is the San Andreas fault, the transform boundary where the Pacific and North American tectonic plates are sliding past one another. The fault crosses Stinson Beach just beyond the point where Dipsea Road intersects with the main beach. The channel linking the ocean and the estuary is just a little further along.

Another bit of hair mayhem. I don't find it easy using a flash so it's all a bit experimental. This was partially illuminated by a flourescent lamp and the action was freezed by the flash on 2nd curtain.
Nazca fault (Nazca plate) 20221120
The Nazca plate is an oceanic tectonic plate in the southeastern Pacific Ocean that shares both convergent and divergent boundaries, corners multiple triple junctions, contains three seamount chains, overrides four hotspots, and is responsible for the creation of the Andean orogeny. Over the last half-century, it has garnered much attention from the scientific and political community due to the hazards it poses to the populated west coast of South America. With oblique subduction underneath the South American plate, this active convergent margin is the longest subduction zone in the world, stretching 7500 km and produced the largest earthquake ever recoded on earth, the M 9.5 Valdivia earthquake.
The remains of the day at Loch Linnhe... shame about the boat, maybe a rough winter in the Highlands...or some unknown and yet to be discovered monster lurking in the depths?! Perhaps that's the wake of the monster retreating back into the depths...drat, that's another missed opportunity!
Loch Linnhe is a beautiful scenic loch on the Great Glen Fault, well worth a visit :). Taken as we headed for Fort Wiiliam.

The Great Glen is a glen that truly deserves its name. Over 100km long, the glen runs from Inverness on the Moray Firth to Fort William at the head of Loch Linnhe. It cuts the Scottish Highlands into two and is also the location of Britain’s deepest freshwater loch – the famous Loch Ness. Geologically, the Great Glen Fault (GGF) is the site of a large strike-slip fault that follows the path of the glen, splitting the Highlands into the Grampian Highlands (southeast) and the Northern Highlands (northwest). Beyond Fort William, the fault continues down the sea loch of Loch Linnhe and out towards Ireland, slicing through the southeasterly edge of the Island of Mull.

Like Smokey in The Big Lebowski, Green Heron went over the line while fishing for menhaden on Horsepen Bayou. I think the launch was intentional but it is hard to say for sure because its grip on the tree stump was a bit tenuous. Going all in is rare for greenies; usually only when they see a target out of lunging range, which is a far piece. Rarer still, this time the bird came up empty.

Nowadays, it is a bit of a stretch to call f1.2 lenses superfast, but anything faster is out of reach to me. So, I certainly appreciate those few vintage f1.2 lenses I have.
Closed a little, already on f2, Zuiko 55mm f1.2 is as sharp as any other ZUiko lens. But, what is the purpose of using superfast lens if we will close it. In my experience, any f1.8 or f2 lens wide open is sharper than faster lenses closed to f1.8 or f2. So, using superfast lenses closed just does not make sense to me.
One have to live with faults of wide open lens. Yes, it will not be as (ass) sharp. Yes, the DoF is paper thin. Yes it may lack contrast. But, I always prefer shot it wide open, arm my self with patience and pretend that the blur in the background that remind me of impressionist painters, is my main subject.
Reelfoot Lake is an 18,000- acre natural area located in Lake and Obion Counties in northwest Tennessee. The lake was created by a series of violent New Madrid fault zone earthquakes in the winter of 1811-1812, the most severe of any recorded in the country. The natural area includes about 10,900 acres of open water and marshes, and about 7,100 acres of bottomland hardwood forests and cypress dominated bottoms and sloughs. The large expanse of such diverse aquatic and terrestrial plant communities provide a great number of habitats for wildlife, especially the Bald Eagle. Reelfoot Lake is considered by some birders to be the best place in Tennessee for bird watching and in fact has been designated an Important Bird Area by the Audubon Society. Reelfoot is also recognized by the United States Department of Interior as a National Natural Landmark. It is one of only fourteen National Natural Landmarks in Tennessee. And, it is also recognized by the state as an official State Park and a Class I Scenic-Recreational State Natural Area.

Pinnacles National Park, California.
This is America's newest national park. It is only 80 miles (128 km) south of the Silicon Valley. The park's namesakes are the eroded leftovers of the western half of an extinct volcano that has moved 200 miles (320 km) north from its original location on the San Andreas Fault.
The park has caves, California Condors and great hikes. It is also superb for rock climbing. In early Spring there are also beautiful wildflowers to enjoy.
Pinnacles National Monument was established in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt. On January 10, 2013, President Barack Obama signed a law that turned the monument into Pinnacles National Park.

The Hurricane fault is on of three major faults that marks the transition from the Colorado plateau to the Basin and Range geological province to the west. It is about 160 miles 250 km) long and has a vertical offset of nearly 8,000 feet (2400m) towards the Basin and Range Province.
It is an extensional (normal) fault that started with he extension of the Basin and Range province about 5 mio years ago.
Occasionally slickensides can be observed, where the heat generated by the friction of the nearly vertical drop melts the rock surface.
The nearly vertical fault plane (foot wall) formed by Permian lime and dolostone at left. A chunk of reddish lower triassic mudstone that dropped down is visible to the right (part of hanging wall).
Location is below SR 9 north of La Verkin, Utah
Pink granite near our cottage. Rock nearby has been dated as 950,000 years old. The black horizontal line is part of the original formation. I wonder what cracked this granite, how long ago, and what affect it had besides the pale, crystalline scar. The thin line running at an angle to the grain might be a glaical striation caused within the past 2.5 million years by ice dragging something like a rock fragment across the granite. So many stories in the rock.
