Nasca fault (Peru) 20221120
The Nazca Plate or Nasca Plate, named after the Nazca region in southern Peru, is an oceanic tectonic plate in the eastern basin of the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of South America. The ongoing subduction, along the Peru-Chile Trench, of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate is largely responsible for the Andean orogeny. The Nazca Plate is bounded to the west by the Pacific Plate and to the south by the Antarctic Plate through the East Pacific Rise and Chile Rise, respectively.

We embrace the imperfections of film photography — the dust, the lint, the missed focus and poor development — as if what we're photographing is itself perfect by comparison.
And this is all I remember from the much longer piece that I wrote for this photo. It was good. Very good (at least by my standards). I wove in metaphore, came up with some pretty unique phrases. I got down how I was feeling about life, the world, about photography. Hell, it was even inspirational.
But with a mistaken click of a button it just went away. I accidentally saved nothing over it, fully erasing it (I checked, it's gone, no advice needed).
I'm angry and sad and just plain old pissed off at myself.
And the knife twists deeper as this is exactly the example I needed to prove the point of what I wrote.
We embrace imperfection in film photography because we want to. Because the actual imperfections of life, especially now, are fucking brutal to bear.

The Paracas peninsula located 240 kilometers south of the City of Lima, is the most important coastal formation in Peru. An unspoiled natural paradise where the desert sands reveal treasures of ancient civilizations. The Paracas National Reserve is the first marine conservation center of the country and one of the most important in the world. Established in 1975, it covers a total area of 335,00 ha. from which 117,406 are on land and 217,594 are in the ocean. With beautiful beaches, ideal weather an impressive scenery it is a place that can be visited all year round.
The abundance of marine fauna - birds, fish and sea mammals - found in the Reserve attracts visitors and ecologist who are amazed by the profusion of sea life. Peculiar rocky formations and geological stratus have made the are the object of many studies of origin of the Planet.
In the ocean floor, on a straight line from the Paracas peninsula another wonder has been found, the Peruvian marine fault, formed millions of year ago when the coastal mountain range fell into the ocean.
This fault is now the merging point for two currents, "El Nino" - warm waters coming from the north-, and "Humbolt -cold waters coming from the south -which originates a unique climactic condition for proliferation of plankton and fitophankton, main food source of innumerable fish species resulting in the extraordinary chain of richness of marine life.
The sea of Paracas is considered the lungs of the Pacific ocean because of the pureness and oxygenation originated in its waters. Another peculiarity of the area are the strong wind called "Paracas" reaching speeds of up to 21 miles per hour. Added to tits natural beauty, Paracas is a very important archaeological and historical site, home to the advanced cultures that flourished in Peru 1,000B.C., know worldwide by the exquisite textiles with combination of many colors and stylized deign, and by the practice of brain surgery and cranial trepanation. The Paracas coast was also the place where libertador San Martin disembarked to initiate the liberation from Spain.

revisit after a year...some earthworks to stabilse the road, has also made it easier to climb the hill overlooking the river...
The fracture is believed to have formed around 600 years ago during one of the recent Inyo/Mono Craters eruptions, and probably has little to do with an actual single earthquake event. While called a fault, this massive linear fissure in the Earth’s surface is more accurately defined as a fracture, as no movement between the sides is recorded. It’s little wonder that this dramatic landform exists on the outskirts of town, as the entire region is a geologically active wonderland of fumaroles, hot springs and earthquakes.
Wish you a lovely new first week og the year :o)
I often passes this house on my walks and it annoys me a little every time ...lol If you divide the house in the middle it's so wonderful equal on both sides ...except from the 2 "boxes" (electricity meters or/and what ever it is), the mailbox, garbage can and the light sensor ...couldn't they have put it around the corner just to please me ...lol

In the news today... A strong earthquake shook Southern California on Tuesday, causing buildings to sway and triggering some precautionary evacuations. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The jolt was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego, and slightly in Las Vegas.
The San Andres Fault is a geologic fault that runs a length of roughly 800 miles (1,300 km) through California from San Francisco all the way down to San Diego. Near Santa Clarita and Palmdale, a portion of the fault is clearly visible as a roadcut for the Antelope Valley Freeway (Fwy 14) which runs directly through it, as shown above. (Taken inside the car off the freeway shoulder.)
Nazca fault (Nazca plate) 20221120
The Nazca plate is an oceanic tectonic plate in the southeastern Pacific Ocean that shares both convergent and divergent boundaries, corners multiple triple junctions, contains three seamount chains, overrides four hotspots, and is responsible for the creation of the Andean orogeny. Over the last half-century, it has garnered much attention from the scientific and political community due to the hazards it poses to the populated west coast of South America. With oblique subduction underneath the South American plate, this active convergent margin is the longest subduction zone in the world, stretching 7500 km and produced the largest earthquake ever recoded on earth, the M 9.5 Valdivia earthquake.
Finally managed to get into this part of the red zone to get a few shots of the Catholic cathedral. This damage was done mainly in the 6.3 quake on Feb 22nd... more damage has apparently occured in the latest 6.3 as well but this was shot a few days before that happened.
The two front towers have collapsed and gone and that front wall on the left is held up by a bit of kiwi inginuity - shipping containers and hay bales.
To the right of the shot out of frame there is a carpark full of blocks and stone from the collapsed cathedral each layed out seperately and numbered - there being saved to possibly rebuild in the exact way once the quakes finally stop.... if they ever do... (they are doing the same to the Anglican cathedral in Christchurch's Center
The latest Quake has damaged it a lot more and it might now be never rebuilt, on this ground anyway....
Just as an interesting fact. The still standing tower at the back had a statue of the virgin mary facing inwards in the front window, during the feb 22nd quake the statue turned an exact 180degrees to face outwards - looking through the window - without falling over or being damaged.
The road im standing on - Barbadoes St - has been identified as having a Fault Line directly underneath - previously unknown. There are now 3 Major active faults under Christchurch.....
This is a 3 exposure handheld hdr processed in photomatix
Cheers for looking, ive got a few more of this from different angles ill post up

Bolinas Ridge, Mount Tamalpais State Park, California
We are standing on Bolinas Ridge on Mount Tamalpais, looking down into Bolinas Bay on the Pacific coast just north of San Francisco. The curved section of coastline is Stinson Beach. Behind the beach is a smaller zig-zag section of sandbar (Dipsea Road), then the Bolinas lagoon, a tidal estuary. Hidden under the ocean waters and lagoon mudflats is the San Andreas fault, the transform boundary where the Pacific and North American tectonic plates are sliding past one another. The fault crosses Stinson Beach just beyond the point where Dipsea Road intersects with the main beach. The channel linking the ocean and the estuary is just a little further along.
