In this view of the north end of Sugarloaf Mountain, dipping beds of Ordovician Bighorn Dolomite rests on flat-lying Cambrian Pilgram Limestone and Park Shale. The surface between the dipping and flat lying beds is the Heart Mountain Detachment fault. The mountain can be seen from the Chief Joseph Highway (WY 296) in Shoshone National Forest northwest of Cody, Wyoming.
With a rail train billed to CSX @ Crestline, OH and a few cars for Upper Sandusky, a run east was necessary on CFE. I asked the engineer if he could take the OHCR unit and he said sure. It was nice to finally get this unit on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Now I don't have to worry about it anymore
The San Andres Fault Zone runs through the multicolored slope in this photo which lies just north of the Apache Saddle in the San Emigdio Mountain which is part of the Transverse Range. The Apache Saddle is a pass above the Santiago Creek Drainage in Kern County California. This photo was taken from the Hudson Ranch Road in Los Padres National Forest. The name of the road can be a bit confusing. For years the road was known as Cerro Nordeste Road for the peak just to the south. A few years ago the road name was changed by Kern County to Hudson Ranch Road. On USGS topographic maps, the faulted area is labeled the San Andreas Rift Zone.

Normal faults offset the rocks visible in this road cut near the old community of Nugget in the Tunp Range west of Kemmerer, Lincoln County, Wyoming. The red beds on the right are calcareous mudstones which are part of the Upper Triassic Ankareh Formation. To the center and left of the photo, the purple to red beds of siltstone and sandstone also belong to the Upper Triassic Ankareh Formation. The tan interbeds on the left are indurated sandstone (quartzite). The tan to buff colored rock on the left above the red beds are the lower beds of the Triassic/Jurassic Nugget sandstone. Nearby these sandstone beds become massive, crossbedded, ridge-formers.

On the 10th May 2021 Class 37/5 no. 37688 'Great Rocks' passes Cockwood with the 5Z37 Crewe Holding Sidings to Laira Traction & Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot ecs. High tide, construction livery and sun. I would have taken that in 1991 let alone 2021!
If rumours are to be believed these coaches are going to be used with spare power cars in Cornwall to increase the number of short sets to cover for the out of service IETS. You just couldn't make it up especially just identifying the faults as long distance passenger service demand should pick up after months in lock down!

A section of the cliffs between Seaton and Beer in East Devon, viewed from Seaton beach. Thanks to a fault running N - S, the cliffs change dramatically from red Mercia Mudstone (Triassic) to Cretaceous Chalk.

This photograph is of the land near Palm Desert, California through which runs the San Andreas Fault. In taking this photograph, I was informed by a nearby sign that stated "San Andreas Fault," with an arrow pointing in the direction one sees in the image. I have been advised that the actual fault probably runs between the hills in the photograph's foreground, and the distant mountain range. For those interested, information regarding the San Andreas Fault will be found below.
The San Andreas Fault is a continental fault that extends roughly 750 mi through the Californias. It forms the tectonic boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate.
The fault was first identified in 1895 by Professor Andrew Lawson of UC Berkeley. In the wake of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Lawson was tasked with deciphering the origin of the earthquake, and he concluded that it originated from this fault line.
Researchers believe that the San Andreas fault has reached a sufficient stress level for an earthquake of magnitude greater than 8.0 to occur in the foreseeable future, but exactly when the triggering will happen and when the earthquake will occur is, of course, unknown. Should an earthquake along the fault occur, it will result in massive damage throughout the state of California.
