The island, Sandey, lies in Þingvalliavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. Covering an area of 84 square kilometers (32 square miles), the lake reaches a depth of 114 metres (374 feet) at its deepest point. Þingvallavatn is a rift lake that fills down-faulted valleys situated on a part of the Mid-Atlantic Rift known as the Reykjanes Ridge that comes a shore in Iceland. Sandey is a small volcano that formed along the rift zone and forms an island in the lake. The only outflow of the lake is the river Sog (Sogið).
Þingvalliavatn is home to four morphs of Arctic Char that inhabit the lake. The lake’s char are an excellent example of species adapting to a secluded environment; over ten thousand years. In this case, biologist believe that one species of Char transformed into four different-sub branches or morphs.
Þingvalliavatn takes its name from the historical founding of the Icelandic parliament, the Alþingi, which occurred in 930 AD in the rift valleys of the area now known as Þingvellir National Park. Þingvellir literally translates to ‘Fields of Parliament’. Southern portions of the lake lie within the boundaries of the current National Park.

View towards the Hutt Valley from Te Ahumairangi Hill. Had to have a play and turn it into a model, although I find it difficult to tell how good it is/be objective when I've 'made it myself'.
The road follows the fault line, pretty clever thing to do ... you know put the main arterial route on a fault. But then mother earth keeps making new ones (faults that is) so hopefully we'll remain lucky!

Normal faults offset the rocks visible in this road cut near the old community of Nugget in the Tunp Range west of Kemmerer, Lincoln County, Wyoming. The red beds on the right are calcareous mudstones which are part of the Upper Triassic Ankareh Formation. To the center and left of the photo, the purple to red beds of siltstone and sandstone also belong to the Upper Triassic Ankareh Formation. The tan interbeds on the left are indurated sandstone (quartzite). The tan to buff colored rock on the left above the red beds are the lower beds of the Triassic/Jurassic Nugget sandstone. Nearby these sandstone beds become massive, crossbedded, ridge-formers.

Straight lines are unusual in nature so this straight section of rock in Glacier National Park caught my eye.
Steep rocky hills uplift from the marshy floor of Bear Lake Valley at Mud Lake. The valley has active earthquake faults along both the east and west sides.

A Line Through Time 2025 by Nadia Myre
Typical brick stitch, the technique Myre uses for A Line Through Time, relies on uniform beads to create neat, orderly lines and patterns. In contrast, Myre’s handcrafted ceramic beads are an irregular tubular shape. Their juxtaposition with found archeological objects creates striations, points of collision, and faults along the surface. This variation, in addition to the colour palette, reinforces the work’s relationship to the Canadian Shield, the landscape upon which Myre resides and where her community affiliation lies.
While the beads themselves touch, they are not attached to one another but instead woven together through the thread that bridges each unit. This is an apt metaphor for the Gardiner Museum’s commitment to connectivity while also respecting the multiplicity of Indigenous Nations, whose territory we reside.
A section of the cliffs between Seaton and Beer in East Devon, viewed from Seaton beach. Thanks to a fault running N - S, the cliffs change dramatically from red Mercia Mudstone (Triassic) to Cretaceous Chalk.

In life, sometimes we make stupid decisions that we just can't take back. Hurting ourselves and the people that mean the world to us in the process.
It may seem right at the moment but when it all sinks in and you realize the impact it has caused people, it's too late and it breaks you. The next thing you know, all you can do is just slowly sit in the corner, accept the pain and wish that you didn't actually do it.
Humans are complicated, separates us from the animals. But the complexity causes most of our downfalls too.

Elizabeth Lake is a natural lake that lies directly on the San Andreas Fault in the northern Sierra Pelona Mountains, in Los Angeles County,. The lake is within the Angeles National Forest.
The same 1:1 f/8 handheld 13-image focus stack of lichens--with both subject and camera movement--with no further processing. Just a little fun with how PhotoShop focus stacking works, or doesn't. First time I ever saw this behavior. Easily fixed, of course, as shown in the first comment, previously posted.
