It is only in sorrow bad weather masters us; in joy we face the storm and defy it.

Bruges is a city that will capture your heart. It is a city of human proportions, but one that can never be truly fathomed. Its history has made it great, a fact that garnered it the title of a Unesco World Heritage City. Retaining the mysteries of the Middle Ages and unashamedly exuberant, Bruges has been an international metropolis for centuries.

Part of one of the largest sculptures installed in the UK, the Seafarer’s Sculpture has been created by artist Michael Dan Archer. It consists of a forest of granite columns running across a large earthwork by the sea in the Port Marine development in Portishead near Bristol.

The 108 granite columns vary in height from 1m to 3m and are arranged in serpentine aisles which the spectator can walk through to the crest of the mound where a stone has been set to sit on and contemplate the sea. From land or sea, the view reveals that the columns form the profile of a wave.

The sculpture was designed to evoke the atmosphere of the sea and to relate to historical and contemporary seafaring. It also indicates Archer’s preoccupation with enigmatic architectural form of ancient cultures.

These were installed on a concrete bench. I cannot fathom what they are.

Fathom Five National Marine Park is a National Marine Conservation Area in the Georgian Bay part of Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada, that seeks to protect and display shipwrecks and lighthouses, and conserve freshwater ecosystems. The many shipwrecks make the park a popular scuba diving destination, and glass bottom boat tours leave Tobermory regularly, allowing tourists to see the shipwrecks without having to get wet. Many visitors camp at nearby Bruce Peninsula National Park and use the park as a base to explore Fathom Five and the surrounding area during the day.Fathom Five also contains numerous islands, notably Flowerpot Island, which has rough camping facilities, marked trails, and its namesake flowerpots, outlying stacks of escarpment cliff that stand a short distance from the island, most with vegetation (including trees) still growing on them.Established in 1987, the park represented a pioneering departure for the national park system, which had centered on land-based conservation until then. Its designation as a National Marine Park foresaw the creation of others, though nomenclature for such units would morph into National Marine Conservation Areas, leaving Fathom Five as the only National Marine Park. Despite its unique name, it is categorized as an NMCA, and is deemed the first one in the country.

I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. Many thanks to everyone who chooses to leave a comment, or add this image to their favorites, your kindness is much appreciated.

"With my feet upon the ground I lose myself

between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.

I feel it move across my skin.

I'm reaching up and reaching out.

I'm reaching for the random or whatever will bewilder me.

Whatever will bewilder me.

And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going..." Tool: Lateralus

Quite a squall at the forty-foot this morning, most of the swimmers swam off the more sheltered pier... except for this chap who hesitated for a bit before plunging in... and his mate who was already lost somewhere in the tempest. The sun even flickered over the scene for a while. They emerged at some stage quite pale looking , an otherworldly look on their faces! We all had to run for cover then, waves suddenly swilling over the rocks...

Full fathom five thy father lies;

Of his bones are coral made;

Those are pearls that were his eyes;

Nothing of him that doth fade,

But doth suffer a sea-change

Into something rich and strange.

Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell:

Ding-dong.

Hark! now I hear them — Ding-dong, bell

[The Tempest ].

Another attempt at copying one of my Grandfathers fine photo's. Next time I'Il use a film camera like he did , although it will probably be 35mm not 120 .

Botallack Mine , a submarine mine produced Tin, Copper and Arsenic . It descends to a depth of approximately 250 fathoms below sea level, and extends some 400 metres under the sea. It closed because of the collapse in mineral prices in 1895. It is now owned by The National Trust, and forms part of UNESCO's world heritage site extending up the north side of Cornwall into Devon.

Possibly the most #eastcoast photo I've ever taken! Mussel shells and lobster boats in Three Fathom Harbour last night.

"The companion thou provideth for me

I faileth to fathom her …"

The Lord respondeth thus

“ Look into the maiden’s eyes

Thou shall envisage her soul"

oceans are dreams

Oceans are dreams, that rise and fall

beyond the conscious mind.

Vast volumed vaults transitioning-

rolling ridges ranging high.

Joined with all creation dance,

like liquid living beings-

quiet, dark depths of passion fire-

eternally careening.

Held in viscous vision,

caught between the separate worlds-

all heaven and earthy creature-

floating figured forms unfurled.

Ghosts-aglow and gaping-

gathered gremlins, timeless trails-

beyond all thought or reason-

hidden highways, watery veils.

Desperate, driven, hungry hunters-

casual commerce-bloody blades.

Liquid-larcened fathoms fallen,

fevered fits in cavalcade.

Contrasts, calm and constant-

consumation, cold desire-

carefully crushed by eons,

in vile volcanic fire.

Down some corridor they creep-

until in rest revealed-

unto the doubting dreamers-

caustic children, filled with fear.

Decisioned paths of plans performed,

adrift in thoughtless themes.

Gathered golden wisdom,

wrapped in scientific schemes.

Predetermined, parliamentary,

railing posted parts prevail-

racked with frail-formed falsities

in fictional detail.

Loving lost the guide unseen

that rules the changeless world-

and brings us back to view the sea

in vision's vacuumed swirl.

Childlike faith-vast beauty breathed,

an author, bold and bare-

for silence sake, stark stepping stones-

it's wealth unfolding fair.

Troll the tame and turning tide,

that flows in measured ebb.

Rolled rhythmic rows of constancy

in concentrated web.

Held hot the hidden history,

revealing holy fare-

formed fellowships and mysteries-

plain patterns painted there.

To see the unseen signature-

to touch the untouched realm-

to gaze at guardian glory, graced

by starred..Ascending..

Stair.
