Beer is the world's most widely consumed alcoholic beverage; it is the third most popular drink overall, after water and tea. It is thought by some to be the oldest fermented beverage. Beer is produced by the saccharification of starch and fermentation of the resulting sugar. The starch and saccharification enzymes are often derived from malted cereal grains, most commonly malted barley and malted wheat. Unmalted maize (US: corn) and rice are widely used adjuncts to lighten the flavour and because of their lower cost. The preparation of beer is called brewing. Most beer is flavoured with hops, which add bitterness and act as a natural preservative, though other flavourings such as herbs or fruit may occasionally be included. Some of humanity's earliest known writings refer to the production and distribution of beer: the Code of Hammurabi included laws regulating beer and beer parlours, and "The Hymn to Ninkasi", a prayer to the Mesopotamian goddess of beer, served as both a prayer and as a method of remembering the recipe for beer in a culture with few literate people. Today, the brewing industry is a global business, consisting of several dominant multinational companies and many thousands of smaller producers ranging from brewpubs to regional breweries.
Beer forms part of the culture of beer-drinking nations and is associated with social traditions such as beer festivals, as well as a rich pub culture involving activities like pub crawling and pub games such as bar billiards.
The strength of beer is usually around 4% to 6% alcohol by volume (abv) though may range from less than 1% abv, to over 20% abv in rare cases. (WOW... fancy a pint of that!)

Paquetá is a small island where the time had stopped decades ago... It could be another city, a small one, but its a district of the Wonderful City, Rio, located in the middle of Guanabara Bay. After a bit more than one hour by ferry boat you arrive in this bucolic place where cars are not allowed, only bicycles and horses. Its a place of tranquility...

I love this daylily because it looks fancy with the ruffles around the edges of the bloom. I look forward to the blooms every year.
Fancy with her pint of Graeter's Vanilla Ice Cream (Krogers was out of Ben and Jerry's and Graeters is better anyway ;-) And a giant pressed rawhide and a stupid vinyl squeaky toy. I only let Fancy have vinyl toys very rarely but she LOVES to rip them to shreds! Today is Fancy's ninth birthday. I very clearly remember sitting on the basement floor next to her mother when she was born. I remember the first time she ate solid food. I remember dremeling her nails for the first time when she was about 3 weeks old so the puppies wouldn't scratch Weasel Girl (long story on the name)'s boobies when they were nursing. Fancy has no real concept of life without me. She has only ever been apart from me for no more than a week at a time her ENTIRE life. And, every year for the past 8 years she has gotten a pint of vanilla ice cream all to herself for her birthday :-)

We've had some balls of yarn donated to our knitting group, for use in charity projects... including this fancy stuff. It's so soft and fluffy!
Looking up one of the front doors of the State Parliament House in Melbourne. A lovely old building with a lot of fancy details, on top of an imposing set of steps. Actually I noticed that the steps were chalked with numbers and letters, for when they were used as seats for a show, which was nice that they still used the place for community events and not just a museum.
