False Kiva is a human-made stone circle of unknown origin in a cave in a remote area of the Canyonlands National Park, which is located in U.S. state of Utah. It requires some hiking knowledge or special directions to find
False garlic is a perennial plant, producing a rosette of leaves about 45cm tall from an underground bulb.
The bulb is sometimes gathered from the wild and used as a substitute for garlic. It is sometimes grown as an ornamental.
Native from southern Mexico to western South America, the species is used as an ornamental plant due to its showy inflorescences and the fragrance of its flowers.

Well, we never really got the light but sometimes you have to take what you can get.
I'm really glad I had the 10.5mm fisheye lens on this trip. It came in handy in so many places.
After taking relatively few photos last month, and posting even fewer, I've been feeling very guilty, so I'm going to try to both take and process more photos this month!
I've also been neglecting one of my favourite genres of photography, blue hour photography, so with clear skies in Vancouver for the past few nights, it was a good opportunity to go out into the city after sunset and get some night shots.
This is False Creek in Vancouver, photographed from Granville Island. Granville Island has lots of great photo opportunities, but I was particularly struck by this composition as I walked past, with the jetty sheltering the nearby water and giving clear, crisp reflections, while the more unsettled water of False Creek beyond gave softer, more blurred reflections.
Part of the West End can be seen across the water, with part of the Granville Street Bridge, built in 1954, visible on the right hand side. Out of shot to the right is Granville Island Public Market.
Thankfully, all was okay .. no disaster just a false alarm!!

Fuji X-Pro2 w/ 23mm f2
First night out with the new system. It feels right being back with these Fuji colors.

(Enemion biternatum). San Augustine County, Texas.
A few years ago my wife and I found the second known population of Enemion biternatum in Texas on a high quality hardwood forest in Sabine County. There it occurs on a steep slope with a variety of spring ephemeral species that are rare in Texas, including Erythronium rostratum, Cardamine concactenata, Trillium gracile, and more. This discovery marked a significant range extension from the other known Texas population in Red River County.
Earlier this year we came upon a third population in San Augustine County. The plants here were growing in markedly different habitat - in the flat floodplain of a large stream alongside Cardamine bulbosa, Packera glabella, Celtis laevigata, and even Taxodium distichum (baldcypress).
Enemion biternatum is a calciphilic spring ephemeral forb native to the deciduous forests of eastern North america. It is abundant throughout much of this area, however it is apparently very rare in the Lonestar State, where they are at the extreme periphery of their range.
False Kiva Registry, dated September 21, 2012:
"Regarding all I see as I sit on a rock at False Kiva, my life is a moment passing. A fragile gossamer thing... that is beyond my control. The gentle force of the river of time that has created this place, this view gives me perspective, it teaches me humility. If I were to sit here for a length of time I feel as if I may dissolve from the power of humility. Imagine that weightless, without the baggage of an aging body, drifting off to a place out beyond right or wrong, beyond prejudice or opinion. Oh well, enjoy, be respectful. Please tread lightly. ~CPD"
Don't know who he is, but he couldn't have described the feeling of being here any better.
This song sparrow was behind some blackberry vines, and thought it was concealed from me, so it let me approach quite close. Shot near the Willamette in Portland.
