Deep East Texas.
Fall is coming to East Texas, and I look forward to documenting it over the coming weeks. I never got around to posting this photo I took in early December last year, when American beech and several other hardwood species were in peak fall color. Pictured here is a beech-dominated ravine.
Fall has been hit and miss this year on Long Island with lots of bad weather on the weekend or the leaves just not cooperating.
I've been wanting to combine the fall color with the Brooklyn Water Works site since my first trip in March. There are many more fences up, so access requires a little more patience.
Silver Falls east of Coos Bay Oregon. Bumpy ride on a single lane gravel road for a ways but an easy hike.
The leaves are falling fast here in NY, trying to catch the color while it is still here on this rainy day. Long Island, NY
This Fall landscape taken at the Consol Energy Powhatan point Wildlife Agreement Area, near the towns of Clarington and Powhatan Point Ohio. The land in this agreement area had been previously mined and strip mined but now is reclaimed and available to the public. This photo is taken along a stream that runs along Beautiful Ridge Road in the Agreement area and then widens into a broad basin were it meets the Ohio River.

It was June 6, 1944, and we were preparing for the hardest battle we had ever fought. We had no advantage, and they had the high ground; everyone knew that this battle was crucial to the victory of WWII. Some of us would come out alive, some of us a little less alive, and some of us wouldn't come out at all. This was Operation Overlord.

That was the last message my grandpa wrote in his diary, and this is the only picture I have of my father. Although it is sad, it is my favorite picture.

In case you don't get it, this is supposed to be a super old picture of some kids grandpa in D-Day. This is sort of a tribute to our soldiers/my two grandpas. They both fought in WWII (one was a paratrooper [he was in the Battle of the Bulge], and the other was a 2nd Lieutenant in Air Force, but he never saw action 'cause he was too smart.) although neither of them fought in D-Day. (This was actually inspired by Tahdas's Some More B&W on the BAF.)

Not to beat a dead horse but this is the fifth time I've done this scene. The season this time is Fall and features the large Linden tree which I had a challenging time to keep from dominating. I don't mind if you think I failed in that regard! I am trying to work in more colour these days to provide a more emotional response to the scenes I paint.
