Fall Out Boy at Terminal 5 on May 29th 2013

Lucca Comics 2010 is over, the town has gone back to its usual self, and Fall is here The Walls are spectacular at this time of the year.

Driving around for the fall colors.

Made the trip up to Mt. Baker Sunday. Rainy and artist point was literally in a cloud. Soft light made for some nice color though.

An year long wait for a trip to see the Fall colors in the Eastern Sierras finally materialized over the weekend. I knew that it was going to be a long road-trip, but circumstances beyond my control made it far longer than I had expected. Thankfully, I did get home in time.

It started with an innocuous drive over the Tioga Pass in Yosemite National Park down to the Eastern Sierras to visit various canyons and lakes which I assumed were bountiful with the rich contrasting yellow color. Sadly, luck was not in my favor. Most of the aspen and cottonwood groves were still green. It seems nature forgot to set an alarm clock for the trees this year.

It eventually became frustrating to the point that I began imagining every grove of trees with even the slightest hint of lime green foliage to be at the peak of fall. Eventually, the I ran out of bad luck and we hit some nice thickets near Bishop, which was just past peak a bit, but still wonderful. Groves after groves of glistening yellow leaves greeted us on the scenic drive along the the Bishop Creek Canyon and they more than made up for all the searching done over the day.

These shots were from one particular grove along the road to South lake in the canyon which was right at peak. Looking up through the aspens, I got quite a different view - the white tree trunks snaking to the sky holding up swaths of backlit yellow and green leaves made for a great shot.

I know, super creative titles. Sorry! HAHA! Anyway, this photo was taken on a super rainy NJ day in my front yard. You can definitely tell that Fall has arrived! The leaves are everywhere, the temps have dropped and the days are getting shorter. I tend to lose motivation for photography once it gets too cold for me...which is any day that is below 50 degrees pretty much! I am hoping to not have that happen this year. Gonna go buy some warm ass gear I think!

I am grateful for fall. In America, fall is the season for American football. I grew up watching and going to games and marching in college and highschool football games. Now, professional football is something I watch with my family and friends - footaball means gathering. More importantly, it even means fun times with our youngest son Hobbs - who just started tackle football this year for the first time. I am so very grateful for Matt - the father of my boys. He's patient, and kind to them. He makes them laugh. He pulls them out of a pit when they are having a hard time better than their mom (shown here, when Hobbs was losing his mind because his team was performing so badly). He gets involved and gets excited about whatever they are excited about - even when it's not his strength. Matt has been water boy for Hobbs' football team all season just to be on the field and share in the experience with Hobbs - and Matt has only played basketball his whole life. Matt is my boys' live-in math tutor (thank God!) and their xbox video game competition. Matt is their prayer warrior, and their leader. Even when I wasn't sure I wanted to marry Matt, I knew I wanted him to be the father of my children - and he's never made me regret that decision. I love watching him be their dad. And I love football Saturdays and big sports bars with college football playing on every screen! :-)

Liangshan Fall

A part of the Maolin National Scenic Area, Liangshan Fall is situated within Majia Township’s Liangshan Village of Pingtung County with water source originating from Niujiaowan River located upstream Donggang River. Niujiaowan River can be divided into 3 major layers: first layer’s graceful and elegant waterfall sliding down along mountain crevices into the clear pond underneath and surging waterfalls in the second and third layer; during the wet season, magnificent waterfall can be seen pouring down the mountain cliffs and splash against the rocks and stones underneath to form mists and anions. In addition to beautiful sceneries, anions created by the falls can also serve as a surplus to the health of its visitors.

Tall trees and lush green forest can be seen along the passage leading towards the first layer fall. Visitors may take a short break and catch a deep breath of the air filled with anions; pleasant chirps and sounds made by the birds and acoustic insects from near and far orchestrated into a piece of light music which is both feathery and soothing while butterflies gave warm welcomes with its dances. Upon reaching the first layer fall, the bedazzled visitors may choose to play in the pond or smell the fragrance which filled the air for a relaxing break

Road to the second and third layer fall will take approximately 40 minutes and visitors choose to continue the journey must take a winding path around the slopes to reach the destination. Ladder climbing and river crossing is required at a particular passage point and is a rather exhausting trip but not without rewards. Because Liangshan Fall is situated in a relatively humid valley, visitors that come in the early morning may get a chance to see the picturesque light fog surrounding the Fall. Liangshan Fall is also a habitat for the wild birds as one can tell from the busy chirps ringing along the passage. Cute little birds such as maroon oriole, streak-breasted scimitar babbler, collared finchbill, black bulbul, red-headed babbler and black-naped blue monarch can be seen singing on the treetops, giving the mountain walk additional fun in bird watch.

Although sounds from the Fall afar is alluring, the cool mountain spring also possesses equal charms. After the arduous journey, the force of the magnificent Fall and white splashes formed by the fall slamming down the cliffs will compensate for all the hard work endured.

Last year at this time I traveled to the ruins of Hildegard von Bingen's first cloister, Disibodenberg, in Germany. It was a wonderful, quiet hike on a perfect fall day.

Saint Hildegard was the earliest female composer whose music is still extant. She lived in this cloister from 1112-1150CE.
