The sky is dark,

And the bloody ground, shaken.

War's voice is weak, hoarse, and breaking,

From all the lives it has taken.

The birds are hushed,

The winds are blowing,

The earth is shattered, it's spirit broken.

Yet from this soil,

He springs new Life,

Everything and anything,

That in the middle of this turmoil,

Has run the race, fought the good fight.

After 5 days of continuous and unrelenting rain (yes! More rain!), I now have the creek meandering thru my woods that I always wanted. This tree fell awhile ago, but today I got up close and personal.

First leaves are falling, so also this leave of the common oak. Shot taken at Solleveld in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Here is a re-edit of a photo taken back in December of 2016. Since then, the UP 1963 has been repainted into Union Pacific's "Armour Yellow" paint scheme, just as most of their other fallen flags have. In this photo, the UP LSB50 (now the LSB54) is passing over the Embarras River at Villa Grove. They are departing north to do work at several industries and interchanges between here and Yard Center in Chicago.

A little change from big skies. I think this heavy mist looks like the clouds have fallen from the sky. I was changing my battery when I looked up and saw it. This was the only shot I got with the mist ' crashing ' into the little hillock. The mist was moving quickly !

Just a simple pic of fallen autumn leaves... If i'm honest, I think it needed a bit more depth of field, but I loved the colours and the richness....

A tree branch at the beach. Tywyn.

Fairy Glen Falls near Rosemarkie in Scotland surrounded by fallen autumn leaves. I loved this little gem of a find during our travels.

Early evening in the fields behind our house, with one remaining hay bale (are they still called bales when they're cylinders?) mirroring the moon in the sky

I wonder why all the fallen leaves are on one side of the path...

I thought this old fallen tree had an interesting shape and texture. Makes one wonder how long ago it met its demise.

Another fairytale scene from the road between Anilio and Haliki in Epirus, Greece.

Beside the bridleway there is a small brook which is fed from springs along the bridleway - hence the normal state of quagmire. I spotted these fallen blossoms caught on a piece of wood in the brook and combined two images, one in focus and one out.

I adore finding things that show off their imperfections and age. Rust, peeling paint, cracks, rips, wrinkles, puckers, whatever it is that makes something interesting. Though perfection is what we are taught to strive for imperfection and difference needs to be celebrated. Celebrate the imperfections in your life today!

Saturday Self Challenge: Minimalism

the flowers of a small frangipani tree, fallen to the ground.

Walking through the forest I noticed this pretty landscape opening up in front of me. I love it when the fallen leaves are carpeting the forest floor. These bright leaves were glowing and they caught my attention. I had to capture this moment.

Walking along and found the petals (magnolia?) on the ground. Couldn't resist the shot.

Look at this scene I found in a wonderful hidden valley. Well, I call this valley hidden because I can’t remember ever having seen any picture from a photographer of this valley in any Social Media portal. I was so fascinated like a little child when I saw that fallen tree in the middle of the little mountain cascade. I had to make a shot of course, but the composition was not very easy. The result was that I had to position me with one leg into the cold and icy water. As I was completely alone here it was obvious that I had to take off my pants (lol). I think this would also have given cool scene (lol). But honestly, what would you have done in my place?

The skelletal remains of this fallen tree, which is on the shoreline of Lake Argyle below one of the primitive campsites, makes a great place for me to hang my camera bag. I wonder whether the tree was there when the dam was built to create the lake. The land for the state park was purchased by the state in 1948 from local farmers.

In the distance, the dam and spillway can be seen.
