I believe this bit of magic is a result of the sun flaring through two close trees causing this lens effect. My intention was to capture this empty bench in the sunlight.

Discovered this path on a morning drive today.

The road conveniently crosses Fall Creek just at these falls. There was lots of water everywhere in the park; streams, rivers and waterfalls were full with snowmelt from a winter of exceptionally heavy snowfall.

One of the reasons that I went AWOL for a week was to go and see the fall colors in Virginia and Maryland, more specifically in Shenandoah National Park. I arrived a few days early, but timing it was the most difficult thing.

I loved the entire place though.The gentle appalachians laced with a rich vibrant forest gently whiling the time away under sunny skies, rolling uplands with colorful barns forming the foreground for some spectacular scenery, beautiful sunsets overlooking the bountiful rivers all made for a wonderful break.

The highlight of the trip, was, of course, the two days I spent at Shenandoah and driving and hiking and capturing all the scenic views there. Blissful time.

This particular shot was taken at the first place I stopped - Tunnel Overlook. A lone bright red maple leaf had fallen on the tarmac in the shade and it made for a wonderful contrast.
