Dark-haired Hollywood beauty Yvonne De Carlo (1922–2007) was a Canadian American actress, singer, and dancer whose career in film, television, and musical theatre spanned six decades. From the 1950s on, she also starred in British and Italian films. She achieved her greatest popularity as the ghoulish matriarch Lily in the TV sitcom The Munsters (1964-1966).
Yvonne De Carlo was born Margaret Yvonne Middleton in 1922 in West Point Grey (now part of Vancouver), British Columbia, Canada. She was the only child of William Middleton, an Australian-born salesman, and Marie DeCarlo, a French-born aspiring actress. Her father deserted the home, leaving her mother to make a living as a waitress. When De Carlo was ten her mother enrolled her in a local dance school and also saw that she studied dramatics. De Carlo and her mother made several trips to Los Angeles to seek fame and fortune in Hollywood. In 1940, she was first runner-up to Miss Venice Beach, and she also came fifth in the 1940s Miss California competition. A year later, she landed a bit part as a bathing beauty in Harvard, Here I Come (Lew Landers, 1941). She also appeared in the three-minute Soundies musical, The Lamp of Memory (1942), shown in coin-operated movie jukeboxes. Other roles were slow to follow, and De Carlo took a job in the chorus line of Earl Carroll. During World War II she performed for U.S. servicemen and received many letters from GIs. She got her big break when she was chosen over a reported 20,000 girls to play the lead role as a European seductress in the Technicolor spectacle Salome, Where She Danced (Charles Lamont, 1945), with Rod Cameron and Walter Slezak. She played a dancer during the Austrian-Prussian war who is forced to flee her country after she is accused of being a spy and ends up in a lawless western town in Arizona. Producer Walter Wanger described her as "the most beautiful girl in the world." Though not a critical success, it was a box office favourite, and the heavily-promoted De Carlo was hailed as an up-and-coming star. Universal signed her to a long-term contract. De Carlo was given a small role in the prison film Brute Force (Jules Dassin, 1947), starring Burt Lancaster. Two years later she was again cast opposite Lancaster in her first important role in the classic Film Noir Criss Cross (Robert Siodmak, 1949). Claudio Carvalho at IMDb: "Burt Lancaster has an outstanding performance in the role of an honest man obsessed with his former wife, who becomes a criminal trying to regain the love of his fickle ex-wife. Yvonne De Carlo is also perfect and very beautiful, in the role of a cold and manipulative woman, being a perfect 'femme-fatale'." However, Universal preferred to cast De Carlo in more conventional fare, such as Casbah (John Berry, 1948) a musical remake of the 1938 film Algiers, the adventure film River Lady (George Sherman, 1948), and Buccaneer's Girl (Frederick de Cordova, 1950). In the latter, she played a New Orleans singer who becomes involved with a Pirate Lord (Philip Friend).
When Yvonne De Carlo was in England making Hotel Sahara (Ken Annakin, 1951), she asked Universal for a release of her contract even though she still had three months to go. The studio agreed. De Carlo had always travelled extensively to promote her films and her appearances were widely publicised. In 1951 she became the first American star to visit Israel. De Carlo regularly played in European films from now on. She starred in the British comedy The Captain's Paradise (Anthony Kimmins, 1953), about a captain of a ferry boat between the restricted British colony in Gibraltar and Spanish Morocco (Alec Guinness) who keeps two wives in separate ports. De Carlo of course played the hot-blooded mistress, Nita in Tangiers. She persuaded director Anthony Kimmins to talk Alec Guinness into doing the mambo with her in a nightclub sequence. Guinness, not usually thought of as a physical actor, consented to a week's worth of dance lessons from De Carlo and the sequence is one of the film's highlights. In England, Yvonne De Carlo also co-starred with David Niven in the comedy Happy Ever After (Mario Zampi, 1954). Her film career reached its peak when director Cecil B. DeMille cast her as Sephora, the wife of Moses (Charlton Heston) in his biblical epic The Ten Commandments (1956). It was to be her most prominent role. She later played a lead performance in the Civil War drama Band of Angels (Raoul Walsh, 1957) with Clark Gable, starred as Mary Magdalene in the Italian biblical epic La spada e la croce/The Sword and the Cross (Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, 1958), with Jorge Mistral and Rossana Podestà, and had a supporting role in the Western McLintock! (Andrew V. McLaglen, 1963) featuring John Wayne. In 1964, De Carlo was deeply in debt, her film career was over and she was suffering from depression. Then, she was offered the role of Lily Munster, the wife of Herman Munster, in the legendary TV sitcom The Munsters (1964-1966). The Munsters are a weird but honest family. Herman, the father (Fred Gwynne) is Frankenstein's monster. Lily, his wife (Yvonne De Carlo), and the cigar-chomping Grandpa, her father (Al Lewis) are vampires. Their little son Eddie (Butch Patrick) is a werewolf. Their niece Marilyn (Pat Priest) is the only normal one. She is the ugly duck of the family. The sitcom went on the air in 1964 and lasted only two seasons, but achieved a kind of pop-culture immortality in decades of reruns and movie and television spinoffs. Wolfgang Saxon in The New York Times: "In her cape and robes and with a streak of white in her black hair, Miss De Carlo’s Lily was a glamorous ghoul and a kind of Bride of Frankenstein as a homemaker, “dusting” her gothic mansion at 1313 Mockingbird Lane with a vacuum cleaner set on reverse. The humor mostly derived from the family members’ oblivious belief that they were no different from their neighbors." After the show's cancellation, De Carlo reprised the role as Lily Munster in the Technicolor film Munster, Go Home! (Earl Bellamy, 1966). After 1967, De Carlo became increasingly active in musicals, appearing in off-Broadway productions of Pal Joey and Catch Me If You Can. Her defining stage role was as Carlotta Campion in the original Broadway cast of Stephen Sondheim's musical Follies (1971-1972). Playing a washed-up star at a reunion of old theater colleagues, she introduced the song I'm Still Here, which would become well-known. Yvonne De Carlo married stuntman Robert Drew Morgan, whom she met on the set of the Western Shotgun (Lesley Selander, 1955). They had two sons, Bruce Ross (1956) and Michael (1957-1997). After Bob Morgan's untimely accident, De Carlo was dismissed from her contract at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1960. Morgan became an alcoholic and they divorced in 1974. De Carlo kept appearing in films and TV series. After her role in the TV Movie The Barefoot Executive (Susan Seidelman, 1995), she retired from acting at age 72. In 2007, she died from heart failure in Los Angeles. De Carlo was 84.

Yes, I screwed up. Yes, I burned a beautiful piece of turquoise. Yes, I melted the bird. But isn't that what it's about? Throwing yourself into the fire and being able to walk out of the flame a different person? As a more knowledgeable being? To study and fail and gain from that failure? Because that's what it is for me. It's beauty and it's failure and it's power.... and it's still wearable. And I will wear it proudly. And the next one will be as perfect as any human-made-thing can be.

Tofane is a mountain group in the Dolomites of northern Italy, west of Cortina d'Ampezzo in the province of Belluno, Veneto. Most of the Tofane lies within Parco naturale delle Dolomiti d'Ampezzo, a nature park.
Peaks
The highest peaks of the Tofane group are Tofana di Mezzo (3,244 m (10,643 ft)), Tofana di Dentro (3,238 m (10,623 ft)), and Tofana di Rozes (3,225 m (10,581 ft)). Tofana di Mezzo is the third highest peak in the Dolomites, after Marmolada (3,343 m (10,968 ft)) and Antelao (3,262 m (10,702 ft)). All three peaks were first climbed by Paul Grohmann along with local mountain guides, in 1863 (Tofana di Mezzo - with Francesco Lacedelli), 1864 (Tofana di Rozes - with Francesco Lacedelli, Angelo Dimai and Santo Siorpaes) and 1865 (Tofana di Dentro - with Angelo Dimai).
Geology
The Dolomites were formed during the Cretaceous Period, approximately 60 million years ago, due to the collision of the African and European continents. The Tofane is largely formed from the Upper Triassic rock Dolomia principale. The strata are perceptibly folded, and the mountains are finally formed by wind, rain, glaciers and rivers.

Access
A cable lift system (Freccia nel Cielo, "Arrow in the sky") goes from Cortina almost to the top of Tofane di Mezzo. There is only a short walk from the top cable car to the summit. Alternatively the via ferratas VF Punta Anna and VF Gianna Aglio can be used to reach Tofane di Mezzo.
Cabins (rifugi)
Some of the cabins in the Tofane are the Rifugio Angelo Dibona (2,083 m (6,834 ft)), the Rifugio Giussani (2,580 m (8,465 ft)), the Rifugio Duca d'Aosta (2,098 m (6,883 ft)), and the Rifugio Pomedes (2,303 m (7,556 ft)).
Via ferratas
The via ferratas of Tofane are VF Punta Anna and VF Gianna Aglio on Tofana di Mezzo, VF Lamon and VF Formenton on Tofana di Dentro, and VF Giovanni Lipella on Tofana di Rozes, where there also are tunnel systems from World War I.
History
During the First World War, the Tofane was a battlefield of the Italian Front for clashes between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces. The front lines went through the mountains.
At the 1956 Winter Olympics, Mount Tofane hosted five of the six alpine skiing events. It regularly hosts women's speed events on the World Cup circuit, and hosted the World Championships in 2021. The men's 1956 downhill and the current women's World Cup races are on the Olimpia delle Tofane ski race course (often referred to as “Tofana” for short); it is famous for the Tofana Schuss, where athletes can reach speeds over 130 kilometres per hour (81 mph).

Tofana di Rozes (3,225 metres (10,581 ft)) is a mountain of the Dolomites in the Province of Belluno, Veneto, Italy. Located west of the resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo, the mountain's giant three-edged pyramid shape and its vertical south face, above the Falzarego Pass, makes it the most popular peak in the Tofane group, and one of the most popular in the Dolomites.
History
From May 1915 to July 1916, the mountain and its surroundings was the location of fierce fighting between Italian and German, later Austrio-Hungarian, troops, as part of the Italian front in World War I.
West of the main face, and separated from the mountain by a steep and rocky gully, is the Castelletto, a narrow, long rock 700 feet high. In 1915 it was occupied by a German platoon, which, armed with a machine gun and sniper rifles, wreaked havoc on the Italian troops in the valley. They were soon replaced by Austrian soldiers, and from their strategic position they prevented any Italian plans for a push north. For the Alpini, the Italian mountain infantry specialists, retaking the Castelletto became a prime objective. Two of their climbers, Ugo Vallepiana and Giuseppe Gaspard, climbed up the Tofana to a ledge a few hundred feet above the Castelletto, but their guns were not very successful. One summer night four Alpini climbed up the Castelletto but they were discovered and shot. An attack through the gully, taking advantage of the morning fog, was also unsuccessful (machine gunners shot the advancing soldiers when the fog thinned a little), as was a massive attack from three sides in the fall of 1915. So, in February 1916 the Italians, led by Lt. Luigi Malvezzi [it], started tunneling into the Castelletto, first with hammers and chisels and then, in March, with pneumatic drills, and with teams of over two dozen men, working four six-hour shifts, they tunneled up to 30 feet per day. The steep tunnel was 500 meters long, and 2,200 cubic meters of rubble were removed. Its adit was in a "sheltered position within a natural ravine", accessed by a long ladder and thus logistically very demanding. One part of the tunnel brought them under the Austrian position, where they filled a cavern, 16 by 16 feet and 7 feet high, with 77,000 pounds of gelignite. The other led to what was to be an attack position, to be opened with a smaller batch of explosives.
On July 11, at 3:30 AM, the gelignite was exploded, with King Victor Emmanuel III and the army's chief of staff, General Luigi Cadorna, looking on. The Austrian commander was Hans Schneeberger, an orphan from Brandberg, Tyrol, who at age 19 replaced a commander who had been killed by an Italian sniper. When the explosions happened, some two dozen Austrian soldiers were killed instantly, but Schneeberger and a few survivors had rifles and grenades, and were able to repel the Italians from the edge of the crater. The attack as a whole was a failure: soldiers were to lower themselves from the Tofana to attack the Castelletto, but the explosion destroyed their ropes. To make matters worse, the explosion used up so much oxygen that Malvezzi and his men, going through the attack tunnel, passed out because of toxic gases including carbon monoxide; some of the men died. Finally, the explosion damaged the rock face on the east, sending huge boulders down the gully and killing incoming Italian soldiers. The next day, Italians had hauled machine guns up the face of the Tofana; Schneeberger sent one of his men to ask for reinforcements, which arrived that night. A few hours later the Italians attacked the relief platoon, and the Austrians withdrew to the Castelletto's northern end, and pulled their troops away altogether after a few days.[2] Malvezzi received the Military Order of Savoy.
Climbing
Most climbs start from the north, where the mountain is a relatively easy hike, or the west face, where the summit can be reached by a via ferrata. The south face, however, is a much more difficult challenge, with many of the routes being either fifth or sixth graded climbs. The mountain was first climbed in 1864 by Paul Grohmann and local hunter Francesco Lacedelli. The south face was first climbed in 1901.
Via Ferrata
A via ferrata starts at the restored entrance to the mine tunnel at the Castelletto, and leads to the summit of the mountain; along the way one finds a memorial to Giovanni Lipella,[8] an Italian soldier who died on the mountain on 15 June 1918 and was posthumously awarded the Gold Medal of Military Valour.
Cave
The Grotta di Tofana is one of only a few natural caves in dolomite rather than regular limestone. It is accessible by way of a via ferrata that starts some 40 minutes from Rifugio Dibona. The cave is some 300 meters deep, and the roof is up to 10 meters high. The cave has been quite popular with tourists, and was listed by Baedeker as "a large cavern accessible by ladders" and as an interesting visit.

Das Dreigestirn der Tofane (italienisch Tofane, deutsch auch Tofana) gehört zu den bekanntesten und markantesten Dolomitenmassiven. Die Tofane liegen westlich von Cortina d’Ampezzo und überragen das Valle del Boite (Boitetal). Eine gewisse Bekanntheit erlangte der Name durch die Skirennstrecke Olimpia delle Tofane, 1956 Austragungsort der olympischen Herrenabfahrt.
Lage und Umgebung
Das Tofane-Massiv liegt westlich von Cortina d’Ampezzo über dem oberen Valle del Boite und ist Teil des Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo. Während die beiden höheren Gipfel Tofana di Mezzo und Tofana di Dentro ein kompaktes Massiv bilden, wirkt die südliche Tofana di Rozes einigermaßen eigenständig. Zwischen diesen Felsgiganten schneidet sich die Forcella Fontananegra (2561 m) ein. Im Westen und Norden trennt das Val Travenanzes das Gebirgsmassiv von der Fanesgruppe, im Osten das obere Valle del Boite vom Pomagnonzug (und der Cristallogruppe) und im Süden das Falzaregotal von der Nuvolaugruppe. Von Cortina gesehen ist den beiden höheren Tofane eine Wandstufe vorgelagert, die mit dem Südostgrat der mittleren Tofana eine Art „Felsenring“ bildet.
Gipfel
Das Massiv besteht im Wesentlichen aus den drei Dreitausender-Gipfeln, die allesamt beliebte Tourenziele darstellen. Alle drei rangieren unter den zehn höchsten Gipfeln der Dolomiten.
Die in der Mitte gelegene Tofana di Mezzo (auch Tofana II) ist mit einer Höhe von 3244 m s.l.m. die höchste der drei Tofane und zugleich nach der Marmolata (3343 m) und dem Antelao (3264 m) der dritthöchste Dolomitenberg.
Die Tofana di Dentro (hintere Tofana, auch Tofana III) hat eine Gipfelhöhe von 3238 m s.l.m. und bildet den nördlichsten der drei Felsriesen.
Die Tofana di Rozes (vordere Tofana, auch Tofana I) ist 3225 m s.l.m. hoch und vor allem für ihre imposante Südwand (Tofana Sud) bekannt.
Geologie
Bereits 1873 setzte sich Hermann Loretz geologisch mit dem Gebiet um die Tofane auseinander. Edmund Mojsisovics von Mojsvár lieferte mit seiner Arbeit zu den Dolomit-Riffen (1879) weitere wichtige Aufschlüsse, die Leopold Kober 1908 vertiefte.
Die Tofane werden aus mächtigem triassischem Hauptdolomit (Dachsteindolomit) aufgebaut, der leicht Richtung Norden einfällt. In den Gipfelbereichen wird er von jurassischen Kalken (früher als Lias bezeichnet) überlagert. Der Grat zwischen Tofana II und III gewährt gute Einblicke in die Schichtfolge und lässt Neokom und Oberjura erkennen, während in den untersten Bereichen ältere Gesteine wie Sandsteine, Kalkmergel und Tuffe zu Tage treten, die ein auffälliges grünes Band formen. Der Komplex von Tofana II und III wird außerdem von einer nach Westen überschlagenen Falte geprägt, deren Mächtigkeit allerdings nur die obersten 200 Meter umfasst. Nach Süden hin setzt sich diese tektonische Störung fort. Am Südgrat der Tofana II befindet sich mit dem Bus de Tofana eines der größten Felsenfenster der Alpen.
Geschichte
Die Erstbegehungen der drei Gipfel erfolgten nacheinander in den Jahren 1863 bis 1865. Paul Grohmann bestieg mit verschiedenen Führern zuerst die Tofana di Mezzo (1863), dann die Tofana di Rozes (1864) und schließlich die Tofana di Fuori (1865), allesamt von Cortina aus. Alpinistisch war in der Folge vor allem die Südwand der Tofana di Rozes von Interesse, die 1901 durch Ilona und Rolanda von Eötvös mit Führern erstmals durchstiegen wurde.
Während des Ersten Weltkriegs bildeten die Tofane eines der Zentren der Ersten Dolomitenoffensive. Die italienischen Alpini besetzten im Juli 1915 die Gipfel von Tofana II und Tofana III und versuchten von dort aus die österreich-ungarische Sperre im Travenanzestal zu erobern. Die Tofana I wurde wiederum kurzzeitig von Jägern des Deutschen Alpenkorps eingenommen. Kriegsrelikte wie Stollen und verfallene Stellungen zeugen heute noch von den erbitterten Kämpfen.
Mit den Olympischen Winterspielen 1956 in Cortina d’Ampezzo hielt der Massentourismus erstmals Einzug in die Gegend. Während die Skigebiete mit der heute noch als Weltcupstrecke genutzten Olimpia delle Tofane am Osthang von Tofana di Mezzo/Dentro entstanden, blieb die Spitze bis zum Bau der Seilbahn Freccia nel cielo (deutsch: Himmelspfeil) 1971 verschont. Davor waren bereits mehrere Klettersteige angelegt worden, die sich heute großer Beliebtheit erfreuen, darunter die Via ferrata Giuseppe Olivieri auf die mittlere Tofana (1957), die Via ferrata Giovanni Lipella auf die Tofana di Rozes (1967) und die Via ferrata Formenton auf die Tofana di Dentro.

Die Tofana di Rozes (auch Vordere Tofana oder Tofana I) ist ein 3225 m s.l.m. hoher Berg in den Dolomiten in der italienischen Provinz Belluno. Mit ihrer berühmten Südwand bildet sie die eindrucksvollste, wenn auch niedrigste Erhebung der dreigipfeligen Tofane westlich von Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Lage und Umgebung
Die Tofana di Rozes ist der südlichste der drei Tofana-Gipfel und von der Tofana di Mezzo durch die Forcella Fontananegra (2561 m) getrennt. In diesem Bereich liegen das Rifugio Giussani und das nicht mehr bewirtschaftete Rifugio Cantore. Im Westen trennt die Forcella Bois (2331 m) den Felskoloss vom Lagazuoistock, im Westen und Norden bildet das Val Travenanzes die Grenze zur Fanesgruppe. Von Norden gesehen erscheint der Berg als dreikantige Felspyramide, nach Süden zeigt er eine der imposantesten Wände der Dolomiten, die meist als Tofana Sud bezeichnet wird. Trotz der niedrigsten Gipfelhöhe ist der Berg gerade aufgrund dieser 800 Meter hohen Südwand das bekannteste Motiv der Tofane. Im unteren Wandabschnitt liegt mit der Grotta della Tofana eine mehrere Meter tiefe Höhle, die bereits von Paul Grohmann besucht wurde.
Alpinismus
Die Erstbesteigung gelang am 29. August 1864 Paul Grohmann mit den Einheimischen Francesco Lacedelli, Angelo Dimai und Santo Siorpaes. Grohmann und Lacedelli hatten im Jahr zuvor bereits die Tofana di Mezzo erstbestiegen. Ähnlich wie bei deren Erschließung wählten sie den Anstieg aus der Forcella Fontananegra über die Nordostflanke, den heutigen Normalweg. Grohmann äußerte sich begeistert über die Aussicht vom Gipfel:
„Ich bin kein Freund davon zur Schilderung einer Aussicht zahllose Bergspitzen herzuzählen, und unterlasse dieses auch hier, unvergesslich aber bleibt mir ein Detailbild der Rundsicht: die furchtbaren Schrofen der beiden anderen Tofanaspitzen in nächster Nähe, und zwischen diesen blickt weiter hinten der Gaisl vor, die Croda rossa der Ampezzaner; nur der oberste Theil, aber dieser blutroth, ein seltsamer Contrast gegen die grauen Kalkwände der Tofana!“
Im August 1901 meisterten Ilona und Rolanda von Eötvös mit Antonio Dimai, Giovanni Siorpaes und Agostino Verzi erstmals die kolossale Südwand. Die Via Eötvös-Dimai (IV) gilt heute als eine der klassischen Routen in den Dolomiten. Die durch wuchtige Pfeiler auffällig gegliederte Wand wurde im Laufe des 20. Jahrhunderts auf fast 30 verschiedenen Routen durchstiegen. Zu den bedeutendsten gehören etwa der zweite Pfeiler (Secondo Pilastro, VI), der 1946 von Ettore Constantini und Luigi Ghedina erstmals bewältigt wurde, oder die 1952 durch Walter Bonatti und P. Contini erschlossene Via delle Tridentina (ebenfalls VI). Weitere wichtige Erstbegehungen gelangen Angelo Dibona, Walter Stößer und Attilio Tissi.
Im Ersten Weltkrieg galt die Tofana di Rozes als besonders umkämpfter Berg. Am 22. Juli 1915 nahm eine Patrouille des dritten Jäger-Regiments im Deutschen Alpenkorps im Zuge der Ersten Dolomitenoffensive den bis dahin unbesetzten Gipfel ein. Man konnte die Tofana I bis zum 18. September gegen die Italiener verteidigen.
Aufstieg
Trotz der imposanten Erscheinung ist die Tofana di Rozes – sieht man von der Seilbahn-Erschließung der Tofana di Mezzo ab – von den drei Tofana-Gipfeln am leichtesten zu ersteigen. Dem Nicht-Kletterer bieten sich für den Aufstieg zur Tofana di Rozes zwei Möglichkeiten.
Der Normalweg führt vom Rifugio Giussani (2580 m) unschwierig über geröllbedeckten Fels zum Nordwestgrat und über diesen schließlich zum Gipfel. Firnreste sind im oberen Bereich keine Seltenheit.
Eine zweite Variante bietet die 1967 eröffnete Via ferrata Giovanni Lipella (Schwierigkeit C/D). Diese wird zumeist vom Rifugio Angelo Dibona (2083 m) aus in Angriff genommen. Der Weg führt zunächst unter der mächtigen Südwand entlang zum Einstieg, wo gleich ein steiler Stollen durchquert werden muss. Danach verläuft der Steig an der Westseite des Berges Richtung Norden zu den Tre Dita (2694 m) und macht schließlich einen Knick nach Süden. Nach dem Ausstieg erreicht man den Normalweg und über diesen den Gipfel.

The snow is still very much present that fell on Hogmanay and is sitting on a sheet of ice which makes driving down the track a little trecherous but I haven't needed to break the snow chains out.
Yet.
Hopefully this week we will get some kind of update regarding the collapsed bank/road situation too. And I am praying for a rapid resolution - whilst anticipating a lengthy delay (this is a worry as the longer it waits, the greater the chance of complete failure!)
From the stone quarry at Gislövs Hammar. Here a poor worker found out after several days of hacking that he would not be successful with this piece of limestone. The crack on the right stopped the work. There are a few of these failures, but much more of successful work, will follow tomorrow.

Tried to repair the leaky bellows my GS645 came with. Let's just say it didn't quite work. :D
Had to bite the bullet and replace the bellows, which fortunately turned out to be much simpler than I thought.
The last Fleetlines to be bodied as single-deckers from new were the Fowler-bodied ones for Fishwick's at Leyland, but these four re-bodied ones for Tayside were every bit as strange. New with Alexander W-type bodies, and H-suffix plates, in 1970, they received new Marshall 'Camair 80' bodies in 1980, and these, along with the Strathclyde PTE Volvo Ailsa, were the only non-Dennis buses with this body.
They didn't last particularly long in Dundee, just under 4 years, and averaged the same lifespan with AA / Dodds. This one even managed a short spell with Stevenson's at Uttoxeter in 1989 after its time was up here, and then was bought by Hatton's at St. Helens, who got about a week's use out of it before it suffered a terminal failure, and was laid up.

Between my camera suddenly switching settings due to fat fingers and my camcorders SD card taking a crap, I still managed to grab a not too bad shot of 1943.
Part of my error prone experience in LF, which now included a light leak, Rodinal only developing, but nice detail nonetheless. The expired film is probably also weathered in the freezer (I think there was some freeze/thaw issues with electrical failure) but making the best of it. Love how LF slows the process, and one can contemplate the image. Thanks for the patience of the flickeranians out there to help out those of us who need it!

American film actor Harrison Ford (1942) specialises in roles of cynical, world-weary heroes in popular film series. He played Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise, archaeologist Indiana Jones in a series of four adventure films, Rick Deckard in the Science Fiction films Blade Runner (1982) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), and secret agent Jack Ryan in the spy thrillers Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994). Harrison Ford was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1942. His parents were former radio actress Dorothy (née Nidelman) and advertising executive and former actor John William "Christopher" Ford. Harrison graduated in 1960 from Maine East High School in Park Ridge, Illinois. His voice was the first student voice broadcast on his high school's new radio station, WMTH, and he was its first sportscaster during his senior year. He attended Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, where he was a philosophy major and did some acting. After dropping out of college, he first wanted to work as a DJ in radio and left for California to work at a large national radio station. He was unable to find work and, in order to make a living, he accepted a job as a carpenter. Athens Hellinikon airport(closed).09 April 1995.On Saturday 25 March 2000 at Huambo Airport (NOV)in Angola the Antonov, leased from a Ukrainian company, suffered a brake failure on takeoff as the crew attempted to avoid a hole in the runway. The Antonov lost directional control and ran off the runway. It struck another hole and broke in two.
The exact number of occupants is not known; at least 30 people where injured and 3 died.
Greendale: Day 11 of the Misfits' Undercover Operation
With the rest of the Misfits still enrolled in the college, Drury had left Rigger, Reardon and Gar to browse the nearby mall. With them distracted, and in good enough spirits, he was able to enter the Ballroom, a small bar in Greendale's town center without arousing their suspicions. As he opened the door, he was met with a large, suited guard, standing between him and his contact.
"You're late," the guard noted.
"Couldn't find a parking space I liked," Drury lied, placing his cocoon gun and the accompanying cartridge of white pellets onto the cork crate beside him: holding his arms out so that the guard could pat him down, pausing as their hands reached the large stuffed rabbit Drury had forced halfway down his back jacket pocket.
"It's for my son," Drury blushed. "He'll be 20 this month."
The guard raised a judgemental eyebrow, but gave way nonetheless, allowing Drury access into the private booth. The seated occupant rose to his feet and offered his hand out to greet him.
"Mr Walker. We haven't been formally introduced yet. My name is David Li, but you can call me-" he began, only for Drury to cut him off.
"-Bookworm, yeah, yeah, Roman's right hand, I know. Chuck's mentioned you. Said you were an honourable sort. Or at least as honourable as a mob accountant gets, I suppose... He's also said that he wished you'd find more... eh, 'ethically sound' employment."
"Oh, I'm quite satisfied in Mr Sionis' employ, thank you," Li smiled politely. "Although we have been... challenged, as of late. Perhaps it's better to show you: Here."
Li reached into his briefcase and handed Drury the first of many photos, as Walker tried his very best not to throw up.
"Lucio Moxxom. October 31st. Halloween. Head decapitated and mailed to the Sionis penthouse," Li explained, before moving onto the next victim:
"Marco Viti. November 5th. Bonfire Night. Thrown into a Steel Mill furnace. Headfirst."
And the next:
"Angelo Mirti. November 16th. Thanksgiving. Drugged and strung up outside the East End Warehouses. A pound of C4 placed... Well, in a place best left unsaid. And since then, there have been three other murders just like them. Remind you of someone?"
"Julian..." Drury realised, as his heart sank.
"Yes. There was a note attached to the first victim's... ah, head, which matches the handwriting we have on record... Here's the copy I made," Li handed Drury a small sheet of paper, and he read it aloud:
"'Roman Sionis... should've stayed in Italy... blah blah... day of reckoning...' bit pretentious... 'Before this year is through, we will see you burn.'" Drury read. "How come I didn't hear about this sooner? Why didn't you go to the cops?"
"Because the last thing Mr Sionis wants is the GCPD intruding on his businesses. He gets enough bother from the Bats: Something we have in common, I hear. We can help you with that," Li lowered his glasses. "Mr Sionis, believes there's a connection between Day, and this man: The White Mask. And, on Halloween, a recent blood test confirmed his suspicions that White Mask, real name: David Franco, is the son of Richard Sionis. His father. This revelation has Mr Sionis reeling, as he's now certain that Franco, has joined forces with Day to remove him from power."
Though he had only been half listening, Drury suddenly perked up. "Sorry, Dave Franco-?"
"Yes, believe me, we all know what it sounds like... Might we skip the jokes and focus, please?" Li sighed.
"Oh, no, we can not just gloss over that. I've got so much material to work with!" Drury joked.
"If you could concentrate please-" Li restated, as he motioned to his bodyguard, the burly man who had patted Drury down earlier with firm enthusiasm.
"Right, yes, sorry," Drury gulped. "Continue."
"In the weeks since he first received those blood tests, Mr Sionis has turned to Henry Ferris: Iron-Hat, a vile man really. Ferris, believes that to catch Day, we must first lure him out into the open. And what better way is there, than with a holiday party? I believe you're familiar with the annual Janus Cosmetics Christmas ball."
"I am, yeah," Drury reminisced. "But you could wrap Roman in tissue paper and a big red bow, and Jules would probably still show up. Doubt it matters to him, but it would limit casualties."
"You're being sarcastic, I take it," Li noticed. "Believe me, you have every reason to distrust my employer, hate him even, but if you do nothing, if The Calendar Man kills Roman Sionis... Well, you have no idea the kinds of monsters he's kept at bay. Or the evils that will rise up in his place..." Li stopped himself from elaborating further and instead, took a pen from his breast pocket, and scrawled a few digits onto the napkin beneath his soda. "The offer stands. We can grant you safe passage into Gotham, however many guns you require, and in exchange, we request your expertise in dealing with Calendar Man. I'll be staying in the hotel on Rhodes Street; visit me there when you have an answer."
==Greendale: Day 17==
"You didn't tell me you were working with Sionis," Kuttler frowned.
"No, I didn't..." Chuck murmured, just as confused as he was.
Drury approached the False Facers and shook hands with Li. "You remembered my terms, yeah?" he asked.
"Yes," Li spoke. "We already have people bringing Mr Sharpe to the rendezvous point," he confirmed. "We are, however, still struggling to locate Mr Fiasco. We've not heard from him since he was released from GCPD custody."
"Forget it, Len knows how to disappear: he'll be deep underground by now," Drury reasoned. "He's never really liked the spotlight."
"Quite," Li agreed. "We have a small smelting plant in one of the neighbouring towns. I've arranged to have your truck moved there, where it can be quietly decommissioned."
"But not before you 'quietly' scavenge whatever Bat-Tech you can get a hold of, right?" Drury questioned him, hesitantly reaching into his back pocket, and placing the keys into Li's expectant palm.
"Perhaps," Li said coolly.
"Oh, mind you, I quite like the hood ornament," White remarked, as he ran his fingers along the grill of the truck. "Might have to keep that for myself."
"Uh, Drury?" Chuck interrupted, speaking on the group's behalf. "Could we maybe talk about this for a minute?"
Drury, looked back over to Li. "Five minutes," the Bookworm relented. Walker nodded gratefully, and rejoined the rest of the Misfits.
"How exactly did you arrange an escort from the Great White Shark of all people? Did you subscribe to the Iceberg Lounge's loyalty scheme?" Kuttler inquired, a note of sarcasm in his voice.
"They do that?" an oblivious Mayo asked. "What a gip!"
"Dru?" Rigger asked expectantly, electing to ignore Mayo.
"Well, you remember those couple of days we spent in the city center? Blake had his teaching gig, you got your sword, Gar got that nifty new lighter and we all had a brief pint in that place on L-Street?"
"Sure, that was the happiest I've ever been," he replied.
'Really?' Gar thought.
"Well, while you were browsing through shops, I actually had a meeting with Li there: The guy with the hat. We'd been texting for a couple of days prior; think Sharpe maybe gave him my mobile... Doesn't matter. Well, matters a little... But, what's important is, Li told me that Sionis' people are being taken out one by one. On holidays," he stated, pausing for dramatic effect.
'Julian...' Chuck gasped.
"Jules?" Blake wondered. "But that'd mean..."
"Exactly. I think we've found our mastermind," Drury concluded.
Ten placed his head in his hands. "God, Drury, I thought we moved past this," he sighed wearily.
"We did, I know, I'm sorry, but look at the facts: We know Carson isn't smart enough to play the long game. Julian is. If he's part of- or the leader of the Outcasts, we have to take him down. We could end this all, right here."
"Just like in Nanda Parbat, right?" Reardon asked, standing his ground.
"That was different. Please," Drury pleaded.
"Ok, Drury, let's say that he is behind all this, that he paid Krill and promised Carson revenge: that still doesn't explain that Zolomon ghoul," Chuck addressed it. "What does he get out of this?"
"Guess we'll just have to ask him ourselves," Gar stated, as he stood by Drury's side.
The other Misfits, looked more hesitant to join him.
"There'll be a party," Drury tried to entice them. "Booze. Food. Women," directing each of these at Flannegan, Mayo and Blake in that order.
"I'm in," Blake replied confidently, as Rigger also cheered enthusiastically.
"You know me, boss, I'm just here for the paycheck," Otis agreed.
"And if there's a free buffet-" Mayo licked his lips. "Well, that'd just be swell."
'Swell...' Gar mouthed, looking at Drury and nodding affirmatively.
The next to speak, Chuck sighed. "God, peer pressure is a bitch... Hell yeah, let's do it," he smiled. That just left Ten.
"Hey. You said you trusted me," Drury smirked.
"Eh-" Reardon protested.
"You said, 'Drury, I trust you,' you did," he teased.
"Hey, if you said that, it's on you," Blake shrugged.
"Well, that's- That's not a direct quotation," Reardon responded. "It's not!" he repeated to the skeptical ensemble. "Fine," he said reluctantly. "Fine."
"Does it even matter what I think?" Kuttler asked bitterly.
"I mean, I thought I'd at least give you the illusion of choice," Drury smiled boyishly.
"Good job," he scoffed.
==Gotham City==
The Apartment of the Deceased Jumbo Carson. Now home to his brother Ted, his daughter Bridget and their lackey Roger Hayden
The door creaked open, as Julian Day entered the room, his hands smelling strongly of hand sanitizer: A habit he had taken up since his meeting with The King of Cats. Hayden, was currently sat atop the kitchen stool, watching cartoons with intense delight, while his hands caressed his beloved Medusa mask.
At the side of the room, Bridget was putting up a Christmas tree; with many of the decorations recovered from her childhood home to celebrate the first Christmas she was spending with her father since his return- a gesture gone unnoticed by Carson himself.
"Allow me," Day said softly, as he reached into the cardboard box of mementos and placed the star at the top of the tree. 'No tinsel?' he noted. 'Pity.'
Leaning against the kitchen counter, Carson perked up. "Who'd you kill this time, huh?" he demanded, as he poured himself a cup of black coffee.
Day didn't reply.
"And where the hell's Krill anyway?" Carson continued to press. "Would never have agreed to this arrangement if I'd known you'd be poaching my people for god knows what."
Bridget, was actually quite grateful for Krill's absence. Though responsible for bringing her father home, Krill himself had been both crass and disrespectful to her family, with his constant jokes aggravating Carson's already foul temper. Day, at least, buried his insults in flowery language that often went over her father's head.
"My partners have Krill working on a separate assignment right now," Day spoke. "You, should stay focused on yours."
"Separate assignment- Stay focused? But I'm not doing anything!" Carson disagreed.
"Precisely," Day said coldly. "I can't have you bumbling around Gotham like a drunk Darth Vader."
"I-," Carson stammered. "We should be out there, searching for the putz who killed Jacob!"
Day took the coffee pot out of Carson's hands, and poured the steaming liquid into his festive mug. "No. You really shouldn't," he disagreed. "The matter has already been dealt with. Pass the milk, please, Roger."
Carson intercepted Hayden's hand. "No, 'Roger,' don't pass him the goddamn milk! Dealt with? Dealt with?! You have no right to-"
"Oh, and you do?" Day scoffed. "It was your failure at the hospital that got Ant-Man captured. And your inaction that got him killed."
Bridget arrived at her dad's side and placed her hand on his shoulder, in an attempt to calm him down. "It's not worth it," she urged.
Carson took a deep breath. "That's my point," he told Day. "Listen, if you'd just let me talk to your partners, we could coordinate on this. Let me set the gas mains alight, hit the power station. Something big to draw Walker out of hiding!"
Day paused to process the magnitude of Carson's suggestion, and brow furrowed, turned to Bridget sympathetically.
Dejected, Carson changed direction. "At least I'm trying! While you were out... washing your hands? I, had a talk with the White Mask. Turns out, he's seeing somebody,"
Day rolled his eyes. "Barson, I'm really not interested in tabloid news and idle gossip," he said disinterestedly.
"But you'll like this: His new girlfriend, is none other than Jenna Duffy. Lynns' girl. You know what that means, don't you? They broke up," Carson said gleefully.
Day raised an eyebrow, suddenly invested. "Really?" he wondered.
"Really?" Carson quoted. "Yes, really, why would I lie? It was a big teary eyed thing, Franco said. Apparently, Lynns had to choose between her and his best friend, and he chose Walker. Crazy, right?"
"Crazy," Day repeated. "Hn. Congratulations, Barson, perhaps you're not all that useless after all," he concluded.

Sionis was sat in the backroom, in a makeshift surgery room. Doting over him, was Lazlo Valentin: Professor Pyg. Sionis, had refused anaesthetic, of course: He'd heard all kinds of horror stories about Valentin transforming simple surgical procedures into nightmarish experiments. Presently, Valentin had been put to work adjusting Sionis' face in anticipation of the holiday party: Sandpapering his scalp, varnishing the surface and tracing over his skull-like features with a small scalpel, all to accentuate Sionis' fearsome visage
"Pretty as a picture," he snorted, as he kissed Sionis' bald scalp tenderly.
"Thanks, Porky. Feel better already," Sionis remarked disingenuously, as he unhooked the white bib from his person, and admired himself in the overhead mirror.
"Sir, the Misfits are outside," Li's voice announced through the door.
"Alright, give me a minute," Sionis replied as he swatted Valentin away.
"Look lively, the strippers are here!" White yelled crassly, as he and Li led the Misfits into the parlour. The convoy, had arrived later than scheduled, having first stopped off at Kuttler's home, to allow him to recover various devices and gadgets he believed would be useful against Day and his apparent henchmen.
"Just remember," Drury was warning them, "Roman's not exactly our biggest fan. Because we keep trying to kill each other. So tread carefully." He paused, as he sniffed the air. "Did you just varnish this floor?" he addressed Sionis' bodyguards. "Smells great."
"Lynns!" Sionis greeted them, as he entered through the backdoor, adjusting his red tie as he made his way towards them.
"Mr Sionis, sir," Gar replied a little awkwardly, as the two shook hands firmly.
"Roman, son. Call me Roman. Here, sit down," he offered, pulling a chair out for his former employee, and handing him a crystal glass of whiskey. "You too, Flannegan."
Chuck looked like he was going to throw up. "Otis, he threw me off a building," he muttered in his ear.
"That's business, Brown, you gotta look past things like that," Flannegan responded, as he too accepted a glass from Sionis.
"Aha, Kite-Man," Sionis sneered, finally addressing the rest of the group. "How was your trip?"
"Eventful," Chuck responded.
"Oho, I'll bet," Sionis replied, recalling their last encounter with sadistic pleasure. "Please, as a sign of good faith; your comrade in arms." With the snap of his fingers, the door opened behind them, as Montgomery Sharpe was escorted in by Iron-Hat Ferris, and a rather familiar hooded figure. As Ferris made his way to Sionis' side, his attention was drawn to Gar and Rigger. "Aw, look, they come in different colours now, that's neat," he said mockingly.
As Gar's fist clenched, Joey instead pulled his arm back as if to say 'It's not worth it.'
"Hello everyone, happy holidays to you all," The Dragon King cheered. "Montgomery has told me all about you, of course," he elaborated, placing a hand atop Sharpe's shoulder.
"Love that guy," Sionis said. "Caught him raking through my dumpster for body parts a while back."
"Quite so," Ito said nostalgically. "When Mr Sionis first asked me to tend over Montgomery, I was hesitant, but during our weeks together, I have been most impressed by his growth and maturity."
"That Montgomery?" Reardon asked, noting Sharpe's uncharacteristically quiet composition.
Ito paused, as his reptilian eyes locked onto Drury, and his gaze softened. "Ah, of course, you must be Cliff Walker's boy. You look so very much like your father."
Ito's remark, was intended as a compliment, sure, but Drury had never felt sicker. He put on a fake smile, and thanked him.
"Alas, I'm afraid I cannot stay for the festivities," Ito admitted. "My daughter, Cynthia, is having a sleepover this weekend with her fellow classmates, and it is paramount I remain there to supervise her, to limit any potential ruckus. She gets awfully rebellious when she has too much sugar. But, you should know that I have cookie dough proofing in your fridge downstairs. Once it has been baked, it shall be splendid."
"Thank god," Sharpe whispered under his breath, as he finally exhaled. "He's a nice guy and all, but he eats pizza with a fork and he hides all the alcohol," he confessed to an appalled Blake. "Lost $200 to his fucking swear jar already."

I love this quote so much. All of my life I was afraid of failure. I was afraid to go and try.
When I started 365 project I learned to accept the failure. Now I can say I pretty much love it. I love when I have a plan and something goes wrong. I need to find another way how to do it or fix it. So instead of feel sorry for myself and blaming everybody around me I take it and I accept it. I learn from my mistakes and use it in future.
And that's exactly what's this photo about. When life throws shit on you, when you fail, just take all these negative emotions and transform them into something positive and beautiful. Because if you will keep feeding yourself with negativity you're digging the hole under you deeper and deeper.
So just take it easy, make fun of it. Enjoy your life.

An exceedingly rare photograph of a Hermes rocket/missile, especially of launch preparation.
Apparently, this is the first (of seven) of the ‘A3A’ version of the Hermes missile/rocket. Unfortunately, the launch was a failure, with a turbo-pump failure 23 seconds after launch.

Disassembled an old hard drive that had failed. Always wanted to shoot the platters and head stack. These things have a nearly perfect mirrored surface, of course, which allows for some possibilities.

Second image for my class I contracted on self-portraiture and anxiety.
When I become anxious, it over takes my body with its tendrils snaking through my every fiber. I become paralyzed and self-contained.
My mind battles with itself.
I seek questions, I seek answers, I seek resolution, but all that I say is administered through a clouded mind full of static, rolling lines of color, and grain images that I can only see vague shapes in. In truth, I am probably best alone when my anxiety is amplified – it never ends well and only a pixelated, fragmented version of my self is available to those around me.
I never really stop to ask – how is this affecting others in the immediate area? Those who are there for me, those who are not, those who are present, those who are absent? This piece is my attempt at understanding that. By placing myself in front of a TV what was originally projecting the color bars ranging from white to yellow to cyan to green to magenta to red to blue to black, I became a static figure in front of a static unmoving object symbolizing a seemingly infinite symbol of colors. By turning them black and white, though, the figures are presented in front of a mostly white screen and are silhouetted and they become faceless.
These two characters showcase my intent to become both the victim of anxiety and the person attempting to console. In doing so, I believe that a sense of hopelessness occurs because it is up to the viewer to discern between the figure who is anxious and the one who is not. When I originally was creating the image, I had a clear idea, having been the model and on body language, of which was which, but upon piecing it all together, I believe it can be interpreted either way.
My anxiety is debilitating, but it will hopefully be through this project that maybe I can become better. To know. To understand. And to live again

47750 passes Holywell Jcn with 1D75 15.27 Crewe-Holyhead on 30/03/04. The headboard 'BRUSH FAREWELL CREWE-HOLYHEAD' marks the final full day of EWS class 47 hauled diagrams for Arriva Trains Wales on the North Wales coast (ironic it was a Virgin liveried loco with matching stock ! ). 47750, formerly named 'ATLAS' as D1667, 47082 & 47626, saw further trips to Holyhead when on hire to Virgin West Coast until failure at Colwyn Bay with a Euston-Holyhead service on 15/06/04 saw instant withdrawl. Disposal came in May 2008 at EMR Kingsbury. A loco hauled diagram returned in August 2004 using Riviera class 47's this too ended in February 2005.

Trying for that 365/24 that I was pressing for after a very busy day of not being at home with a camera. Oh I brought it with me but conveniently forgot a battery for it when I packed it in my purse to go....not my best day. Rather than not post anything I figure I need to document my fails as well as my success.
This was the last photo I ever took of a trentbarton bus on the 141. The company have ditched the route due to 'low passenger numbers' even though on the day I went, the Solo was half full off peak! As I anticipated, Stagecoach will be taking over the route and I'm expecting them to use something like an E200 or Dart based out of Mansfield on the route, only time will tell if my speculations are correct, we may even be treated to a Mansfield Trident!
Another thing of interest is the Solo featured in the picture. It is currently the oldest bus in the trentbarton fleet and the last Solo with an Allison AT545 gearbox in service with trentbarton. I'm not too sure about the future of this vehicle as it's main role was on the trentbarton operated 141 so it's time may be limited. 462 is still going strong for now however and is looking good for a 20 year old bus!
***UPDATE***
This vehicle was unfortunately withdrwan in September of 2022 following what is rumored to be an engine failure but was spotted in the pits at Sutton a few months later seeing some sort of attention. Miraculously, this bus was reinstated to the roster on the 2nd of May 2023, making 462 once again, the oldest vehicle in trentbarton's fleet!
