When you crash in your first run but your main opponent puts in a faultless one and goes into the lead. Then in your second run, you have to give it ALL to win. The pressure was on.

Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it does not.

Well that turned out more teal than I expected. The red filter was very under exposed.

Looks like flickr has decided to give up its niche as the best photo hosting site on the web to become like everyone else in the name of progress. Weak-minded fail IMO.

Culprit: MGS3 OST - Return of the MiGs

Technically the second operational Beleran jet fighter, the WiG-16 is an exceptionally-balanced gun platform, even if it can only hit Mach 1 in a dive. While it has been relegated to pilot training in Beleran service, it was widely exported during serial production, and can be found in many backwater conflicts or in active service with countries sporting more frugality, sense, and taste than the capitalista. Shchiskabov-Golbin still produces the airframe to order, hand-crafting them somewhat in excess of the original specification with such modern amenities as an ejection seat that only fails half the time.

You too can produce tube fighters in an evening. Basic !MiG-17 for D&C11's commie build pool.

We remember the photo sessions that yielded gold with inspiration and nostalgia. In my experience though that are just as many or more "failed" trips which we look back on and ask: What the hell was I thinking?

A "failed" photo trip does not imply the trip wasn't otherwise fun, but rather--we failed to execute in the field. Why didn't I think of setting the ISO differently? Tripod--hah--I don't need a tripod. No don't pull over now, the shot will still be there in five minutes. I could of sworn I charged the battery. All these phrases and more you have probably uttered too.

So here's a CHEER to the failed trip, for in the mud and muck there are always a few little happy accidents, like this one.

I got to hike with my drone out into the Bisti Badlands last Sept 19th, but things didn't work out. Conditions were good, but (1) it took a long time to wait for occasional hikers to pass by, and (2) I couldn't control the drone from the app. I was flying blind, so I cut the attempt short. This was about the best I could do.

Later I realized that my protective rim on the phone was preventing a good connection with the controller. Live & learn.

A nice surprise on Sunday 6th March 2016 is a DB Schenker Red 67 hauling a failed Virgin East Coast Trains 225 set.

With cloud covering the sun at the wrong moment, 67018 hauls a failed 91129 on 1S07, the 0937 Doncaster - Edinburgh Waverley. At this point it is passing Inveresk 50 minutes late at 1314

A nice colourful combination the two liveries make.

This session was supposed to produce photos of very serious faces. However, as long as any proper photography session is a great fun "failed" shots with big smiles cannot be avoided :)

After the big CME a couple days ago my Fiancee and I went out Aururora hunting. Unfortunately, although the weather report said it would be completely clear, we were lied to and it was cloudy.

For this photo, envision a blueberry dropping into a spoon of milk, with perfect ripples and milk splashing in a well lit scene. Yes, please envision that because I couldn't achieve any of it before getting bored of trying.

What could have been.

GWR Centenarian 2857 and SR Q1 sit out the remainder of the Severn Valley Gala at Bewdley after both were declared failed on Saturday night. The loss of these two didn't seem to effect the gala which still provided plenty of action and variety. When we visited on the Sunday services also ran to time.

Life happened - changes were made. But I'm determined to have one constant in my life.

This is an image from a failed 52 week project from a grid of ideas someone posted in a photo group back in 2014. I learned a lesson from this 52 week project - that pre-fab projects aren't for me.

Is it still a failure if you learn something? Wouldn't it then be a lesson?

agfa RSX II 100 - very expired

I had no idea what - if anything - could be expected from the 3 sheets of expired AGFA RSX in a box clearly bearing the signs of once being really wet. I decided to shoot close to home and hope for the best. Oh well... Judging by the condition of the box, these sheets had been exposed to humidity, maybe even flooded with water and then dried again. Would that explain the stains? Maybe. I am uploading this as a curiosity and a proof that film is always and adventure.

At least I got the exposure time right :)

a bit of a fail - didn't even manage to get all the drums in....

Despite the dramatic "boiling water action," this fish hawk failed to snatch the bass.

The Nissan Prairie could be said to be pretty much the first purpose build MPV, first going on sale in Europe in 1981. Originally branded Datsun, the Nissan name was applied after 1985. The original design of vehicle was also groundbreaking in that it did not have a B pillar between the front and rear doors, both doors locking into the roof. Whilst an innovative idea, motoring reviewers of the day suggested that this design caused a worrying flex of the body when cornering at speed, and so it was redesigned for the 1986 model revision. These vehicles were a favourite on the late 80's school runs of my youth, taking over from the likes of the Talbot Rancho and Volvo 240 as middle class child movers - they were contemporaries of the Volvo 740 estate and early Renault Espace models outside the Home Counties school gate. The vehicle shown here appears to be a late Series 1 model, first registered in September 1985 and featuring the aforementioned lack of B pillar, allowing full access to both sides which has led to it's continued use as a load lugger for a neighbourhood cycle store. According to the DVLA MOT check this vehicle has spent some time off the road after a pretty disasterous MOT fail in 2010 the rectification of which no doubt involved considerable amounts of underbody welding. Noted also several times is 'passenger seats removed' indicating it's continued use as a load lugger.

Production photograph for The Infamous Brothers Davenport, which is currently running at Edinburgh's Royal Lyceum Theatre.

In a show full of baffling illusions and trickery, the setup for this scene was relatively straightforward: a smoke machine, a wind machine and a blue light. The result, however, is one of the most visually stunning images I've seen on a theatre stage. When I first saw it during a preview of the show - mouth open in awe - I felt the thrill of knowing that it was my job to photograph it, but also the fear that I wouldn't do it justice: that I'd miss the moment, or that I'd fail to deal properly with the overwhelmingly blue light which, as any photographer of performance knows, is all too easy to do.

I'm very pleased, though. I feel that this shot in particular ranks among my best work, and is almost certainly the best photograph I've taken of a piece of theatre.

The Infamous Brothers Davenport is running at The Royal Lyceum in Edinburgh, and thereafter at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow and Eden Court Theatre in Inverness. Details, along with a trailer for the show, here: www.voxmotus.co.uk/davenport.php

I figured I'd share these unfinished projects that have been sitting around for 7 or 8 years. I figure, if I haven't finished them yet, I never will.

With this one, I was planning on doing some sails using the Jaba's Sail Barge sails.

I was basing the design off of this concept art piece.
