A White-tailed Buck rests in the fading glow of the setting sun...

Just like the Penn Central I saw last weekend, the Reading heritage SD70ACe is no better in paint condition as it leads NS 31M south on the IHB Kankakee Line at CP 100 in East Chicago Indiana

This I try to remember when time's measure

painfully chafes, for instance when autumn

flares out at the last, boisterous and like us longing

to stay - how everything lives, shifting

from one bright vision to another, forever

in these momentary pastures.

The warmth of a spring day withers in the face of the oncoming night. UP 5719 and friends are doing their best to warm things up as they charge the western edges of Tehachapi Pass.

Sandcut, Tehachapi Pass, California

The sun broke through the clouds right before sunset and lit up the waterfall as well as the forest beyond it.

I did not recognize this Pipevine swallowtail butterfly (Battus philenor) because of its faded color and I didn't notice the one 'tail' until it was on a big monitor. I don't know if their colors fade with age or exposure to sunlight or both. Even with three broods per year, this guy seems the worse for wear.

WISH YOU ALL A SUPER SATURDAY

This is an orchid too, from my window about to fade but still beautiful i think

Thank you all very much for your visit.

Amazing things you can find in your garden on a rainy day late in the fall.

Thank you for visiting my stream. I appreciate it.

Have a nice day!

Souls to revive us

Or rot us away

Want for the weary

And death for the sane

Cursed yet we listen

For bells left to toll

To fight back the depths of

Humanity's soul

For the unkindled

We look to the sun

Cities in gold

All the victories won

Fear not the dark

Or the monsters, my friend

And brace for the feast

Of humanity's end

Born of graves and left below

Painted ashes, painted snow

When the dark awakens

Fires of our last hope are getting low

Souls of gods and souls of men

Meet in cinders to ascend

Fate has chosen

And our fading light is at its end

NS 35A passes the searchlight signal at Deka Road just west of Lyons, led by a very faded C40-8W in Conrail blue. Before being repainted, most of these engines faded from their deep blue to a chalky similar to this. Hard to believe that just over ten years later, all of these once common Dash 8s are gone.
