This is for JFDI challenge 43: Feel the fear and do it anyway.
I had NO clue what to do today, until an idea popped into my head as I was putting the kids to bed, inspired by a conversation I had with a friend at work today, about a particular shop. I'm still not hugely comfortable doing public SPs so I thought I'd go do a facedown or something, right in front of the shop - it would cover JFDI, and be funny in the context of the conversation I'd had.
Except when I got there, it turned out the shop wasn't called what I thought it was - which kind of wrecked my plan. It would still have done for JFDI I suppose... but somehow the plan was ruined.
So, I tried to get a shot in some local woods, but everything I tried was scuppered by brambles and thorns and my lack of agility. I had a little panic - I hated the thought of not getting my shot. And I had a little dawning of realisation - I really am scared to fail.
So this is me, posting completely not any of the shots I wanted, trying not to run away from the thought of failure, but instead facing it head on.

Today was a good day full of sleeping in, breakfast at noon, shopping, and moving furniture around. Oh, and pop with ice cubes :)
Summer is finally here.
The end of the this gorgeous autumn day had us driving up to the top of Bear Mountain, situated wonderfully as it offers superb views in all directions. Down toward the Hudson Valley and River sits the historic Bear Mountain Inn, Lake Hessian, the sprawling grounds and an ice skating rink and antique indoor carousel. Furthermore, in that direction, one can enjoy the views across the river with the layers of mountains and the Bear Mountain Bridge that spans from one end of the river to the other. Anthony’s Nose, the name of the mountain on the other side of the bridge is great to hike and climb, for the views facing west toward where we stood are just as impressive. I had finally taken done the hike in more recently, and accordingly, will have the photos from that outing posted in the future. Views to the south and west, or north, depict the lush wooded landscape, and the colors can be nicely appreciated as you look as far as you can, taking in the amazing scenery. Many photographers would arrive toward this latter part of the day to catch sunset views, and when the observation tower is open, the views can be even better--it was not on this day. Our old-timer pal, Lou (93 at the time), was delighted to sit on the seat of these very attractive motorcycles—I had asked the riders if he could sit on one or more of the bikes for photos. They were more than happy, and even offered Lou a helmet to wear. As the sun begins its final descent, the granite boulders take on a very attractive salmon hue, and when the golden orb decides to get dramatic toward the western end, one never knows exactly what type of show it will put on for the admiring onlookers. We were fortunate enough on this day to witness that of an inferno sky. A perfect ending for all . . .
Although at the time of this upload, the period in which the photos in the series were taken is not current, but from October 22, 2015; however, the overall scenery and the colors/shades of the foliage is consistent over the years, with only slight variations depending on any particular weather influence.
The brilliant autumn colors of Harriman State Park of New York, just north of the New Jersey border and a bit west of the Hudson River, never fails. If at all possible, it is usually best to take shots rather late in the day, starting a little before the sun begins to descend—unless, of course, the overcast or inclement weather is a factor.
When the sun is just right, and the “magical light” is cast upon the land and water scape, everything becomes so much more spectacular in the golden tones and the vibrant reflections in the water.
The variety of colors seen in the NJ-PA-NY Tri-State region can match anything in the popular New England states. In spite of the scale, on average, in the New England states being greater, the variety of tree species changing colors around the same time frame is more pronounced in our Tri-State area, thus, allowing a wider range of the rainbow array to capture at any given time during the autumn foliage visits.

While letting go of a few dreams as I come to the conclusion that sometimes the things I want and am offered might not be the ones I can accept.
I really hope I actually take pictures of more than my hotel room while in San Diego. :-)
Here's a slightly better view of the western-facing side of the station with its new bland canopy, as seen from the next-door Coleman's BBQ parking lot. The remainder of today's pictures were taken the very next day after I discovered the unfortunate transpirings here, on Saturday, September 1st, 2018.
Now... I *will* admit (albeit very, very begrudgingly) that this remodel doesn't look horrible. In fact, when I first saw it being implemented at the Goodman and Airways Shell, I went so far as to describe it as “classy.” But since that time, having seen it take over the majority of the other Shell stations I pass on a frequent basis, I've grown quite tired of it, mainly because it lacks any character whatsoever. The Shell brand has always had yellow and red as its primary colors... and this remodel takes that away from them. Even worse, it strips the stations of any “coolness factor” that they may have had before, at least in my opinion. I mean, this new design is coming from the same company that once produced this masterpiece. That represents a MAJOR step down in creativity.
(I will note this... perhaps it's just the local franchisee[s] who is/are trying this look, and this isn't something that has spread around the country quite yet. Could be the franchisee[s] created this themselves, or Shell corporate is using DeSoto County [for whatever reason] as a test market; I don't know. But in any case, I do imagine that Shell corporate had to sign off on this style, and as such, they're involved somehow.)

Recorded on September 15th-21st 2015, NASA/SDO's 7-day time lapse of the sun. Which captured an image of an M2 class solar flare facing Earth on Sep 19th. (Displayed at 193 ångströms) (0.0000000193 m).
The M2.0 CME sparked terrestrial aurora that was powerful enough to be seen in the Northern portion of the Continental United states.
On the night of September 20th, I was fortunate enough to experience a deep black cloudless night sky, and captured many beautiful images of the Aurora, peeking out from the northern horizon over Lake Michigan.
