I've been assuming non-breeding white-faced Ibis, Plegadis chihi, because of where this is (Las Vegas area) and no reported sightings of glossy at the time I took this picture in that area.
But is it? Brown eye, not red. Should I be labeling this a glossy ibis?
Note: this was taken at Henderson Bird Viewing preserve, a few miles southeast of Las Vegas, and an area with lots of birders walking around in the mornings.

Four eyes, one predator. This looks to be a De Tomaso Mangusta — and the name says it all: "mangusta" is Italian for mongoose, chosen because the car was conceived as a Cobra killer. De Tomaso had originally been building a car for Carroll Shelby; when that deal fell through, the mongoose was let loose on the snake instead.
Giorgetto Giugiaro gave it the body to match a predator's reputation: a long, low nose, quad round headlamps staring dead ahead, and a fine mesh grille baring its teeth. Built in small numbers from 1967 to 1971, it paired that Italian styling with a mid-mounted Ford V8 — light, low, and built to hunt.
Caught here resting in a showroom (note "Aussichts-Galerie" reflected in the bonnet), but it still looks ready to pounce.

Ashy-faced owl
Species
The ashy-faced owl is a species of owl in the family Tytonidae. It is found in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, and, now, heavily degraded former forest.
There are three really nice wildlife refuges near Los Banos in Central California. I took this picture at the Merced National Wildlife Refuge. There is a viewing drive that goes around the refuge. You are not supposed to get out of your car when driving, but you can in the parking areas. The birds will scatter even when you drive by slowly. This white faced ibis was kind enough to pose for me for a few pictures. This was the best of the bunch.
I had fun using two cameras today. I was using the d500 with my 600mm lens all day and didn't have much luck until I got to this wildlife refuge. There weren't many cranes or herons on this trip. So I was pretty glad to see a few of these birds hanging around. I stopped my truck and shot out of the window to get this picture. Even though I was the only one in the refuge, it would be my luck to get my hand slapped for getting out of my truck. Turned out pretty good for a window shot.

I'm amazed I managed to rally in time to get this shot done today before Lost tonight. Let me back up. I went to Urgent Care this morning to get my leg checked out since I still can't walk. Turns out I tore my calf muscle and fascia in my right leg. The good news is that I didn't rupture my achilles tendon, so I won't need surgery. The bad news is that it's going to be 4-6 weeks before I can even think about running, jumping, playing soccer, or anything else that I actually want to do with my leg. But I'm thankful because it could be worse. I have to keep reminding myself of that. Anyway, the doctor gave me a prescription for Percocet to help with the pain. I had some issues with nausea when I took Vicodin a few years back, so he thought Percocet would be a good alternative.
WRONG!
About forty-five minutes after taking it, I hit a brick wall of nausea and was completely laid up for the rest of the afternoon, petrified that I was going to throw up. Did I mention that I do NOT throw up? I do everything in my power to avoid it at all costs, no matter what. Even when I know I will feel better afterwards. No thank you. Anyway, today sucked. That's pretty much the point of the story. But I managed to get this shot off for this week's Emulation Challenge in My Face is My Canvas. Can you believe this is our 25th week of emulation challenges??? If you haven't already checked out the group and you have even the slightest interest in face art photography, you owe it to yourself to stop by.
