Wat Phra That Doi Kham ~ Chiang Mai Province, Thailand

Nikon D5100, Tamron 18-270, ISO 500, f/6.3, 65mm, 1/640s

We were having a donut snack at the famous Kenilworth bakery in Queensland when this honeyeater flew on to the next table top and eyeing our donuts.

No, we did not feed it. It stayed just long enough for me to get a quick shot.

The Blue-faced Honeyeater is a large black, white and golden olive-green honeyeater with striking blue skin around the yellow to white eye.

The crown, face and neck are black, with a narrow white band across the back of the neck.

The upperparts and wings are a golden olive green, and the underparts are white, with a grey-black throat and upper breast.

The blue facial skin is two-toned, with the lower half a brilliant cobalt blue.

Juvenile birds are similar to the adults but the facial skin is yellow-green and the bib is a lighter grey.

This honeyeater is noisy and gregarious, and is usually seen in pairs or small flocks.

It is known as the Banana-bird in tropical areas, for its habit of feeding on banana fruit and flowers.

Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated...

Dana, Jordan

What is special about the Dana nature reserve is that it has succeeded so well in getting people and nature to work together. Previously, Bedouin communities allowed their herds of goats and sheep to graze in the nature reserve, which was disastrous for the vegetation. To offer local people an alternative, a cooperative has been started that offers people work in tourism. But in a responsible way. Both nature and people benefit from this. Plant life is recovering, local residents earn a living and travelers can enjoy the beautiful nature.

White-faced Ibis are not a common bird in central Alberta, but over the past few years we are seeing more of them in these parts.

The world of macro-photography has created a whole new set of challenges and adventures for me. I am really enjoying those challenges, especially when other wildlife photography opportunities are limited.

A couple of American White Pelicans dwarf a Reddish Egret and almost seem amused at the little guy. Or perhaps they're thinking that the egret looks like a nice snack...

When viewing a Reddish Egret without other birds around, they look like a fairly large bird. So this gives a nice sense of just how huge the American White Pelicans are.

This encounter occurred along the gulf coast of Texas.

Zimmerius chrysops

(Golden-faced tyrannulet / Tiranuelo Cejiamarillo)

The Golden-faced Tyrannulet is the most widely distributed of the genus Zimmerius in the Andes, from northwest Venezuela to northern Peru. They all inhabit humid forest, borders, and tall second growth, and are usually seen in the tops of trees, where they regularly perch in the open. Its size is about 4.3 inches (11 cm)

The song of the Black-faced Solitaire is pretty amazing to me; it doesn’t sound like it could be coming from a bird. When this photo was taken, I could hear several of them singing in the cloud forest around me but just couldn’t seem to spot one. After quite some time stalking around the dense vegetation, I spotted this beauty directly in front of me. I had only a few moments before the bird flew to another perch but did manage a couple of photos.
