Hooded mergansers are my favorite duck to photograph in the fall season.

While I was waiting for the male Hooded mergansers to come closer, I spotted this female one caught a good-size crayfish not far away from me. She quickly swam away from me. Then she began her "de-clawing" routine, which involves shaking the crayfish violently from side to side.

In a rare move the R&N used their F9A and F9B units on a freight move yesterday, and luckily I was on scene to capture a few brief switching moves they made in Mohrsville before blasting off to Port Clinton, PA. The train came up from Reading, switched around some freight cars in Mohrsville, and took a tank up to Port Clinton. This is the first time the Fs have been used in freight service.

I got so caught up in bugs last year, I didn't post many birds. So I'm catching up before the next bugfest begins.

I came across a family of Stonechats high up on the moors.

I still keep seeing pardalotes.
