This female Wheatear was busy hunting and feeding two young ones on the Isle of Mull. The blue background isn't the sky but the water of one of the lochs.

... avec le Rouge gorge familier
J'ai écrit au Père Noël de se pencher tout particulièrement sur votre maison et laisser tomber dans votre cheminée de la poudre d'énergie et des graines d'enthousiasme.
- Le Rouge gorge est avant tout un oiseau de la forêt. C'est le milieu optimal qu'il fréquente sur les lieux de reproduction. Il est un semi-cavernicole pour la nidification. Le nid est toujours très bien caché dans une anfractuosité de rocher ou d'arbre, contre un talus couvert de lierre , dans une souche pourrie, sous une touffe herbacée et très difficile à découvrir.
Il ne s'impose jamais à la vue . Mais de là, il déborde sur d'autres milieux arborés favorables, tel que les forêts riveraines des cours d'eau, les parcs, les haies arborées. A la mauvaise saison, il quitte largement la forêt pour gagner des milieux comme les jardins à la campagne. - Quand les anglais nommèrent le rouge gorge pour la première fois au 15 ème siècle, le mot "orange" n'avait pas encore été introduit comme couleur dans la langue anglaise. A l'époque les animaux et toutes sortes de choses étaient souvent qualifiés de "rouge" même quand ils étaient plutôt orangés ou fauve. Quoi qu'il en soit, cette couleur vive est très appréciable pour égayer la grisaille de l'hiver.
