The extravagant desk set celebrates the art of poetry while providing a writer storage for the tools of his craft. The exterior decorations evoke ancient Roman art and honor the divine sources of creativity.Gods and muses perch beside famous poets atop an elaborate confection of drawers and removable containers, including inkwells and a sand-shaker (for drying fresh text).Inside, the compartments are decorated with images denoting their contents, such as scissors and quills.
Marie Antoinette - The extravagant Queen (1755-1793) - Part of the Regal Twelve series.

Marie Antoinette was the Queen of France during the French Revolution. Born in Vienna, she was sent to Versailles at the age of fourteen where she was married to the future King of France, Louis XVI. At this time, France was the most powerful nation in Europe, and the royal palace of Versailles, the most opulent. Four years after her arrival she became the Queen of France.

here, i separated the two sisters as colored and black and white so the glare of the multicolored costumes that hide their tired and weary faces are seen in the heat of the blazing sun...
Peafowl are best known for the male's extravagant tail feathers, which it displays as part of courtship. The male is called a peacock, the female a peahen[1], though it is common to hear the female also referred to as a "peacock" or "female peacock." The female peafowl is brown or toned grey and brown.
Indian Peafowl has iridescent blue-green or green coloured plumage. The so-called "tail" of the peacock, also termed the "train," is not the tail quill feathers but highly elongated upper tail feather coverts. The train feathers have a series of eyes that are best seen when the train is fanned. The actual tail feathers are short and gray-colored and can be seen from behind when a peacock's train is fanned in a courtship display. During the molting season, the males shed their stunning train feathers and reveal the unassuming gray-colored tail which is normally hidden from view beneath the train. Both species have a crest atop the head.
The female (peahen) Indian Peafowl has a mixture of dull green, brown, and grey in her plumage. She lacks the long upper tail feather coverts of the male but has a crest. The female can also display her plumage to ward off female competition or danger to her young.
The Green Peafowl is very different in appearance to the Indian Peafowl. The male has green and gold plumage and has an erect crest. The wings are black with a sheen of blue.
Unlike the Indian Peafowl, the Green Peahen is very similar to the male, only having shorter upper tail feather coverts and slightly less iridescent in some regions. Like other peafowl, it is very difficult to distinguish a juvenile male from an adult female. Moreover, the sexes of the various Green Peafowl species are almost impossible to tell apart in the field during the months when the male has no train.
Many of the brilliant colours of the peacock plumage are due to an optical interference phenomenon (Bragg reflection) based on (nearly) periodic nanostructures found in the barbules (fiber-like components) of the feathers.
Different colours correspond to different length scales of the periodic structures. For brown feathers, a mixture of red and blue is required: one colour is created by the periodic structure, and the other is a created by a Fabry-Perot interference peak from reflections off the outermost and innermost boundaries of the periodic structure.[citation needed]
Such interference-based structural colour is especially important in producing the peacock's iridescent hues (which shimmer and change with viewing angle), since interference effects depend upon the angle of light, unlike chemical pigments.
The plumage of the peacock, and the peahen's preference for its exhorbitantcy, is a classical example of sexual selection and especially the handicap principle.
Extravagant bloom of brittlebush on a steep slope of Hakatai Shale, Grand Canyon. On the slope above and upstream of Hance Rapids. A huge dark vein (basalt?) intrudes at upper left, and a much thinner one of white rock (quartz?) in middle. These features are more evident in other photos in GC album. The massive cliffs at upper right are the much harder Shinumo Quartzite formation.

Life imitates art -- this image reminds me of an extravagant engraving, perhaps by Gustave Doré. I have explored many caves in my lifetime, both commercial and "wild". I can confidently say that the Caves of Drach are the most beautiful I have ever seen. They are extensive, with over 2 km of passages and some very large chambers. In the well-known finale of the tour, a boat, rowed silently across the black gloom of a cave lake, ferries musicians playing, for example, Elgar and Vivaldi -- live. Overwhelming, just overwhelming!

A vision in pink Candoglia marble, Milan's extravagant Gothic cathedral, 600 years in the making, aptly reflects the city's creativity and ambition. Its pearly white facade, adorned with 135 spires and 3400 statues, rises like the filigree of a fairy-tale tiara, wowing the crowds with its extravagant detail. The interior is no less impressive, punctuated by the largest stained-glass windows in Christendom, while in the crypt saintly Carlo Borromeo is interred in a rock-crystal casket.
Begun by Giangaleazzo Visconti in 1386, the cathedral's design was originally considered unfeasible. Canals had to be dug to transport the vast quantities of marble to the centre of the city and new technologies were invented to cater for the never-before-attempted scale. There was also that small matter of style. The Gothic lines went out of fashion and were considered 'too French', so it took on several looks as the years, then centuries, dragged on. Its slow construction became the byword for an impossible task ('fabrica del Dom', in the Milanese dialect). Indeed, much of its ornament is 19th-century neo-Gothic, with the final touches only applied in the 1960s.
The most spectacular view is through the innumerable marble spires and pinnacles that adorn the rooftop. Crowning it all is a gilded copper statue of the Madonnina (Little Madonna), the city's traditional protector.

Shot of the naturally extravagant Pangong Tso. In Tibetan the name means - Long Narrow Enchanted Lake. A high altitude pristine himalayan salt water lake in Ladakh region situated at a height of about 4,350 m (14,270 ft). It is 134 km long and 1/3rd of the lake lies in Indian boundaries while 2/3rd is in Tibet.
An evening shot taken close to village Spangmik. The most amazing part of this place was that the water changes colors with change of light and the weather is extremely dynamic in the months of July-Aug. It is cloudy at a moment and suddenly clear sky or rain might occur. Amazing experience of being there....

“Hooded” is something of an understatement for this extravagantly crested little duck. Adult males are a sight to behold, with sharp black-and-white patterns set off by chestnut flanks. Females get their own distinctive elegance from their cinnamon crest. Hooded Mergansers are fairly common on small ponds and rivers, where they dive for fish, crayfish, and other food, seizing it in their thin, serrated bills. They nest in tree cavities; the ducklings depart with a bold leap to the forest floor when only one day old.
It is impossible to describe God adequately, but here's some of what such a description might contain.

On the electrification of Newcastle tramways the Corporation decided on the extravagant and knowing the British climate, slightly bizarre decision to have a summer fleet of open sided cars. With this in mind an order for 130 cars of various types was placed with Hurst Nelson, 102 being one of twenty two open-sided single deck cars arriving at Newcastle in 1901. The policy for summer only cars was already being questioned and 102 did not enter service until 1903 rebuilt as an 84 seat open top car. As built, 102 ran on Brill 27G bogies, 2X30hp GE58 motors and BTH B3 controllers. Circa 1920 modifications included 2 x 40hp GE203N motors (note a) and BTH B18 controllers.
As part of the F Class, 102 suffered by being somewhat ponderous and slow loading and incorporated an awkward driving position, the controller being placed to the saloon side of the staircase . They did however come into their own moving huge crowds at Gosforth Park events.
102 was withdrawn in 1949. After spending some time in Newcastle it moved to Bury in 1954 and then to Lord Montagu's Motor Museum at Beaulieu in Hampshire. From there it returned to Newcastle in 1967 for restoration to commence. In 1970 it was put in to storage at Clay Cross but eventually arrived at Crich in 1975. 102 made another journey North when in 1990 it was loaned out for the Gateshead Garden Festival.
note a. Technical information obtained from published works by W. H. Bett and J. C. Giliham. Some sources disagree on motor details.

High tea at the Brown Palace Hotel, an extravagant event indeed. Impossible to get a good shot of the whole spectacle brought to our table, & my favorite things to eat --- the scones with Devonshire cream (yes, imported) and the little egg salad sandwiches -- photographed poorly, but here are the sweets on the top tier.
Germany, Mainau, 📌…if you would like to have a pond but don't have a place for it, here is a creative idea for a balcony, terrace or roof garden.
An extravagant water garden, 19 bathtubs filled with aquatic- & marsh plants from different parts of the world; Alisma, Robustum, Cyprus Grass from Madagascar, flowering Cane from India, Lotus & Water Lilies etc.
an island close to the shore of the Lake Constance near the city of Konstanz opposite to the shore of the City of Überlingen. It is maintained as a garden island & a model of excellent environmental practices. The island can be reached via a bridge & has a jetty for ferries.
The Cacti “Corner“, due to the for Germany unusual advantageous climate on the island at the lake the island is called the "Flowering Island". Famous for its parks & gardens with even full-grown palm trees, cypresses & countless other Mediterranean plants, partly even tropical vegetation can grow on the drop-shaped island.
The Plants & flower-beds with are constantly renewed by the gardeners, not only the over approximately 20,000 dahlia bushes Rhododendrons of 180 different species, Azaleas or the Italian rose garden, strictly geometric, consisting of pergolas, sculptures fountains, over 1200 kinds of roses can be found on the island.
A million daffodils, hyacinth, tulips, 500-year-old wild roses & more than 30,000 other rose bushes, also palm trees & citrus fruits grow here, the palms go into the greenhouse over the winter, with a changing climate soon maybe it will not be necessary anymore.
But that has nothing to do with the island's sometimes claimed tropical climate; the lake does level out temperatures & acts a little as central heating in winter because it has stored summer heat.
But above all, the art of the skilled gardeners & their work on the Mainau making this island so unique.

Such an extravagant flower, this water lily in bloom on Pattison South Pond in Washington. If only there had been a frog posing on one of those leaves!
Controversy is brewing in Micropolis! The mayor has spent a sizeable chunk of the yearly budget on a new extravagant skyscraper and the critics have been brutal.
- 'We need apartments for the general public, not outrageously expensive office spaces that benefits no one but the very rich', complains a spokesman for the political opposition. 'The money that went into expensive bricklink pieces could have been used to buy bucketloads of mixed LEGO on ebay! We could have built block after block of ecclectic living quarters that would have benefitted even those without much to spend! Instead we now have this eyesore visible in the whole city which is a constant reminder that our mayor shows no concern for the less fortunate'.
But the mayor stands firm in the face of the criticism.
- 'We need to show that we are a modern city, and we won't do that with shabby apartments. If we are to attract new, talented builders we need to be more visionary and build the city we want to be rather than pander to the current needs of the masses. And I think we have done just that.'
The architect of the building, Santilego Calatrava, shared his take on the situation when we called him in his villa on the Spanish Riviera.
- '¿Qué? Este es un restaurante y soy un chef, no un arquitecto! Tienes el número equivocado, así que o pedir una paella o dejar de llamar aquí!'
He is probably right, but the big question is if this has hurt the mayor politically, or if his bold decision making is exactly what Micropolis needs right now.
Only time will tell.
This is an entry to Swebrick's Micropolis competition.
In architecture, a folly is a building constructed primarily for decoration, but suggesting through its appearance some other purpose, or of such extravagant appearance that it transcends the range of garden ornaments usually associated with the class of buildings to which it belongs.
In English, the term began as "a popular name for any costly structure considered to have shown folly in the builder", the OED's definition, and were often named after the individual who commissioned or designed the project. The connotations of silliness or madness in this definition is in accord with the general meaning of the French word "folie"; however, another older meaning of this word is "delight" or "favourite abode".

ROMANIA
The Mița Biciclista House (also known as the Teodorescu House, after Constantin Teodorescu) is a historical monument located in the municipality of Bucharest. Its name comes from Maria Mihăescu.
Designed by architect N. C. Mihăescu, the Beaux-Arts house with Art Nouveau influences has richly ornamented facades, with balconies and reliefs with cherubs, lions and cupids. The name of the house recalls the name of the owner Maria Mihăescu, the first woman in Bucharest to ride a bicycle, known for the extravagant and luxurious life she led.
The house was renovated in 2022 - During the consolidation and restoration of the building, all the roof moldings and fireplaces of historical value were preserved. The roof trusses and walls were consolidated throughout the building, and the carpentry of the monumental bodies was fully restored, with a recovery of more than 50% of the parquet of the main body. At the same time, the building envelope was completed, including for the wooden structures.
