A collage as part of a 3rd year project entitled 'Animals in Fashion'. Belonging to the first half of the project, 'The uses of Animals'. Specifically dealing with how morals didn't prevent humans from driving various species to extinction.

"Although it is a gloomy view to suppose that life will die out, sometimes when I contemplate the things that people do with their lives I think it is almost a consolation."

Getting the opportunity to hold one of these wonderful creatures of nature is a moment I will never forget. Peregrine falcons that were once nearly extinct have made a tremendous comeback in the state of Iowa.

Myrtaceae (Myrtle family)

Endemic to the Hawaiian Islands (Molokaʻi, extinct; Oʻahu, extant)

IUCN: Endangered

Oʻahu (Cultivated)

The fruits are edible and have a somewhat sweet to bland or bitter taste.

Etymology

Eugenia is named for Prince Eugene (1663-1736) of Savoy, France.

The specific epithet koolauensis is referring to the Koʻolau Mountains on Oʻahu. This addition of -ensis, indicates origin or place.

Views from our Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruise on the Black Cat!

Akaroa day two on our two day trip away to escape from the earthquake repair/paint on our house. May 23, 2012.

The cruise is packed with highlights including the rare, NZ native dolphin - the Hector's Dolphin, as well as penguins and other sea birds. And you'll see giant volcanic sea cliffs and hear about Akaroa's fascinating past. Cruises depart every day, weather permitting and we had a perfect day, just a little cool!

We did see the Hector's Dolphins, penguins, lots of sea birds and the giant volcanic sea cliffs.
