*a once friend, later foe whom I named in jest "Rudolf the red nosed Vallenares" and which stuck to him for many years to come . Rodolfo had a drinking habit from early on and when he had one to many, his nose would light up like a red light bulb. He passed away many years ago, but at this time of year his misdeeds that caused him in so much trouble and landed him in the "dog house"** come to mind.

*al hilo de las tablas, loosely translates to: close to the boards.

This painting was done on the back of an old painting on canvas, hence the "aged" look;

*It is black as no other; it has to be cooked, mixed with petrol, it smells and is outright dangerous to one's health yet, if in dark mood, there is no other paint as asphalt !

I have recently found some transparencies of my "dark period" and will share them with my flickr. friends as soon as I get them scanned.

Laid out to dry in the sun on the roof of my studio; after ten days it still was wet and smelled worth than when first painted, but it was dark, very dark!

* lingerie as art, one of my favorite art forms, set of eight from 48 entries,

*this small rendering on canvas was painted outdoors by candlelight while listening to a recording of "La Negra y Lole Montoya" last seen in 1975. After finishing this rendering discovered to my disbelief a recording of same with her mother on You-Tube, that one, of 1972 at a private party. Amazing the world of the internet. Perhaps before too long we may be able to communicate with the dead.

This painting is part of a series I am presently working on and is best viewed on black.

The above writing is a passage from a book by 20th, century greatest writer, Jorge Luis Borges written the year before his passing and expresses word for word what I wish to have writen on my own tomb stone, if and when I can afford to buy one. Unfortunately it is virtually untranslatable without loosing much of it's meaning.

 

This set came about after finding her favorite song after 40 years on You Tube; a beautiful new version of a old classic coming back with a vengeance: You Tube: Mar Azul-Cesaria Evora - Marisa Monte.

*percance literally a tossing, not goring, usually with the bulls head and between the horns, not fatal at the moment but with serious consequences in later life due to internal injuries sustained by blow.

PS I have attempted to draw the feel of being hit by a ton of mass, but most just came out a blur, the above is the best I could do to convey the image at the point of impact. Not at all artistic and I certainly don't expect any one to comment.

PS the above is from personal experience being tossed, fortunately without consequences except being black and blue for a couple of weeks

*from photograph, presently at work on his portrait. Lucky Cienfuegos, cosidered at one time, one of America's greatest poets of the 1970's, now but sadly forgotten; Lucky, originally from Cuba, settled in Manhattan in 1969, writing poems describing the life of emigrant artist's living and working in the U.S.

Lucky was one of the creators of the Nuyorican art movement, later becoming a leading figure in theater productions as well. His poems, were widely distributed via "Xerox" copies and were read and endorsed by other leading poets such as Che Guevarra. None of his poems were ever published by main stream publishing houses, yet they were read and cherished by the thousands mostly illiterate of the so called "third world" countries and of course the "Banana Republics" as they were referred to in the 70's.
