One in a series of paintings and drawings inspired by drawings of a view of 6th Avenue, New York City, made on location from the edge of Central Park, Central Park South in 2010 by expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley .

Amongst the amalgamation of classic and contemporary architecture can be seen Radio City Music Hall & the triangular tip of Bank of America .

The artist has an abiding affection and fascination with the USA & his press includes the New York Times & TIME magazine; which published his portrait tribute of Barack Obama in 2008.

Many Americans, who make up the majority of Whatley's collectors, discover his work from the permanent art exhibit of the series of 30 paintings he was commissioned to paint for Her Majesty's Tower of London in 2000; reproduced just outside Tower Hill Station as a vibrant walkway of art to the Tower.

See more of Whatley's tributes to New York City in his NYC Art Album here on Flickr and on his website.

Expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley was delighted to receive a warm email and this photograph of his portrait tribute of film star Elizabeth Taylor on the wall of its owner's home in The Hague, The Netherlands - with his pet cat.

The oil painting formed part of the artist's 1993 exhibition, Hollywood Gold at London's National Theatre on the South Bank in London.

The art collector wrote wanting to express how much joy the painting gives - specifically in his words that 'it continues to be my most prized possession' - since the original was bought 28 years ago - and that it has travelled with him, through times in Azerbaijan, Canada and the USA.

Gratifying affirmation for any artist.

The work of Stephen B. Whatley is in private collections worldwide, including many states of the USA; and in public collections including BBC Heritage, The Royal Collection, London Transport Museum, Newman University & Westminster Cathedral.

His 30 paintings commissioned by the Tower of London in 2000 are permanently reproduced throughout Tower Hill Underpass that leads to the Tower from Tower Hill Station, as a daily public art exhibit.

Turning Hollywood's B-movie stars into modern art....a new tribute by expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley to Hollywood film and TV actress Paula Hill (1926-2000) ; inspired by photographs of her playing 'Doreen' in the surreal sci-fi movie, Mesa of Lost Women (USA 1953) - which was released 70 years ago.

When life allows, the artist likes to make iconic portraits inspired by his great interest in the often more obscure players from Hollywood's Golden Age.

The portrait tribute was predominantly painted on Paula Hill's birthday February 15 and completed yesterday.

A minister’s daughter from Birmingham, Alabama - who suffered the loss of her father at 5 and her older protective brother at 12 - Paula Hill is most known to film buffs as the blonde lead of Mesa of Lost Women (1953). She was credited as Mary hill - as she was in several other early 1950s pictures including Outlaw Women (1952) and Models Inc (1952).

She had smaller roles in The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms (1953), The Greatest Show On Earth (1953) & Hot Cars (1956) & in many other films .

Paula Hill was prolific on TV in the 1950s in such series as Dragnet, Mike Hammer , Mr & Mrs North, The Man Called X & Burns & Allen.

Striking in beauty, talented and possessed of a velvet voice, she never got the bigger breaks in the film industry - but Whatley champions her, is researching her life and celebrating her posthumously through his art - humbly hoping to give her the limelight he feels she deserved.

A heavy smoker all her life, Paula Hill sadly passed away from a stroke on her 74th birthday in 2000.

Artist Stephen B. Whatley presenting his painting ‘A Parish On A Hilltop’ commissioned for Holy Innocents’ Catholic Church, Orpington, Kent (UK) to Parish priest Fr Victor Vella (left) & devout parishioner and football choreographer Mike Delaney (right)- who was so instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.

The striking contemporary church - where they are pictured- was designed by award-winning architect Michael Blee (1931-1996) and opened in 1981.

The painting takes its title from Fr Victor Vella's vision of ' A Parish On A Hilltop' - to depict his wish. for the parish to be a beacon love and light for the church and wider community.

The expressionist artist - who covered to Catholicism in 2011 - made drawings on location earlier this year capturing his feelings and sensations to be able to capture an essence that combined with the prayers that he depends upon for his art, inspired the emergence of the Holy Spirit, Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary - as Blessings upon the church and the parish.

The work of British artist Stephen B. Whatley ( 1965-) is in collections worldwide & other public collections which own his work include the BBC, London Transport Museum, The Royal Collection of King Charles III and Westminster Cathedral, London - which staged his 2013 exhibition, 'Paintings From Prayer'.

The artist's series of 30 paintings, commissioned by the Tower of London in 2000, is a permanent exhibit outside Tower Hill Station, London ; reproduced throughout Tower Hill Underpass (outside Tower Hill Station) - the main portal entrance to Her Majesty's Tower of London.

In 2004 the artist was presented to HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in recognition of his work.

Light of peace, hope & courage through Saint Ignatius of Loyola, whose Feast is celebrated today. Blessings....especially to all suffering in Brasil; of which St Ignatius is Patron.

This tribute was created by British expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley on this date in 2017.

The artist has an image of Saint Ignatius, by the front door of his home - because Saint Ignatius is known to be of powerful protection against the Devil and thieves. The reverse of the card explains:

ST. IGNATIUS AGAINST DEMONS:

Catholics are recommended to attach an image of St Ignatius of Loyola behind the front door of their home, because the Saint commends the devil, in the name of Jesus,

DO NOT ENTER THIS HOUSE. In fact, St Ignatius exerts great power over demons, as we read in the prayer of the Church:

"DAEMONES MIRUM EXERCUIT IMPERIUM" (He exercised great power over demons)

For this reason it is a habit to put the image of St Ignatius behind the front door, or elsewhere. The devil himself once said, "I can not get into your house until you remove

that image from your door." During the exorcisms carried out in Rome, the devil said screaming furiously, "Do not call St Ignatius, because he is the worst enemy I have in the world".

This Saint is also powerful against thieves. Where his image is placed they do not enter. This is demonstrated by many factual cases. (By P. Luigi Grazioli)

" My latest Catholic tribute painting, of Saint John The Evangelist; which I began painting on Saint Faustina's birthday and completed on the Feast of Saint Monica - and share here on Flickr, on the 57th anniversary of my baptism at St John The Evangelist Church in East Dulwich, London UK.

I have been inspired to paint Saint John The Evangelist for months, during which I have been absorbing historic images and reading his Revelations, as written in the New Testament, in Patmos Greece.

I decided to focus on the Apostle's Revelation of Jesus amongst the seven lamp stands and with seven stars in his hand. As ever I depend on prayers...and the 'revelation' of Jesus I truly felt a gentleness and direction to my brush strokes forming his face.

Humbly, every brushstroke I know is guided - but there are those special moments when I feel moments of truly peaceful guidance.

The eagle is often featured with Saint John The Evangelist in historic paintings, as a sign of strength and Grace. It also symbolizes 'the height he rose to in the gospels'.

Saint John The Evangelist is Patron Saint of Love, Friendship, Care-givers and authors.

Blessings of Peace " - Stephen B. Whatley, London, September 5, 2022

A new tribute to Saint Jude, Patron Saint of Desperate Causes painted by expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley.

The painting was painted predominantly on the Feast Day of Saint Jude, October 28 and completed in the next two days.

The British London-based artist gets what he humbly feels a 'Divine Push' to paint tributes of faith, alongside his other work - a large body of which is on public display every day in the City of London, just outside the Tower of London - where his series of 30 paintings commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces, 25 years ago, vibrantly chart the history of The Tower.

As a permanent art exhibit reproduced throughout the walkway leading from Tower Hill Station they form a bright and vibrant entrance to the Tower of London.

The work of Stephen B. Whatley is in collections worldwide & public collections which own his work include the BBC, London Transport Museum, and The Royal Collection of HM King Charles III.

Catholic institutions that have either acquired or commissioned the artist's paintings include The Carrollton School of The Sacred Heart, Miami, USA, The Institute of Marist Brothers, Canada, Newman University, Birmingham (UK), St Anthony Padua Catholic College, Sydney, Australia and the Duchesne Academy of The Sacred Heart in Texas, USA.
