*several years ago I did a set titled: "Menchenfresser" /man eater/ which turned out quite well, in which the maneater was male and dealt from a political point of view, I was tempted to call above the same except it had nothing to do with the other. The above comes from a true statement made by a friend, about a recently married couple. Best seen on black
p.s. far fetched? Could happen to anyone second time around. best seen on black.
*every artist has drawn or painted her. The drawing above is of a more modern one, nevertheless as secretive and multi talented as the original. Attend a tablao and sooner or later she will appear. For a treat see the talented Belen Lopez with the brilliant poet of true flamenco Alejandro Granados and cantaor Pepe Jimenez:

*This painting, one of my favorites, and one I have tried for several years to paint before, depicts the balcony of a man who is about die and from where he sees a child eating a fruit. The poem, not well known, nevertheless one of our favorites when burying our departed friends:
Despedida
Federico Garcia Lorca
Si muero,
dejad el balcon abierto.
El nino come naranjas.
Desde mi balcon lo veo.
El segador siega el trigo.
Desde mi balcon lo siento.
! Si muero,
dejad el balcon abierto!
Federico Garcia Lorca, 1927
transl.
If I die,
leave the balcony open
the boy is eating oranges / in my painting I have substituted with a banana /
from my balcony I see him.
The sickleman sickles the wheat,
from my balcony I hear him.
If I die,
leave the balcony open.
R.V> interpreted the poem thus: "This is a serene unequivocal acceptance of death"
E de S. interpretation: "It is no such thing, since it admits no kind of life except a prolongation of the present one."
This painting is privately owned and is presently shown through december at the Brand Library and Gallery in Glendale,
p.s. as soon as I get it photographed properly will post it on my site.

*study for later portrait; one of several; gypsy cantaor "Morenito de Talavera" el Kolibri tuerto, *from a selection of sketches, drawings and portraits of people known to artist, their dreams, anxieties and life styles as perceived by artist. Sketchbooks are the diaries artists carry in their heads until put on paper, they are made entirely from the stuff we carry in our heads, they are not copies of other people's art and are not made to please anyone except artist who may or my not use them in future for the making of art. They are neither good or bad; I don't even know if they can be categorized as art, all i know they are revealing to what we feel within ourselves and what we think of those that have influenced our art. The portraits are not as they or the world sees them but as we perceive them to be. In short they are nothing but impressions of them at the moment which can often change within minutes or hours. There are some of course who never change for the better or worse. When viewing set, should anyone be interested in the character or image drawn, you are welcome to question them in my comment box and I will gladly answer your queries.
Thank you!
p.s. I am posting them with the intend of publishing several hundred of them in a art book with notations on how some of them evolved into paintings, most of which appeared subconsciously.

* as per request; "hansi" to his friends was one of Austria's greatest composers and writers; best known for having written the east German national anthem for which he was severely criticized by his artist friends; on art he wrote: "art, foremost should be relevant to the workers and understandable to them. Artists should concentrate on painting scenes of every day life in a all understandable way, realistic and supportive of the aims of the State and Party.
On 26 March 1948, Eisler and his wife departed from LaGuardia Airport flying to Prague. Before he left he read a statement:
"I leave this country not without bitterness and infuriation. I could well understand it when in 1933 the Hitler bandits put a price on my head and drove me out. They were the evil of the period; I was proud at being driven out. But I feel heart-broken over being driven out of this beautiful country in this ridiculous way."
Eisler eventually settled in East Germany where he wrote some of his best compositions and directed films too many to quote. Those who knew him, claimed, he was a broken man for his first love was for his adoptive country, the United States.
*In 1931, Garcia Lorca describes "cante jondo" thus:
The "cante jondo" approaches the rhythm of the birds and the natural music of the black poplar and the waves; it is simple in oldness and style. It is also a rare example of primitive song, the oldest of all Europe, where the ruins of history, the lyrical fragment eaten by the sand, appear live like the first morning of its life. The illustrious Falla, who studied the question attentively, affirms that the gypsy "siguiriya" is the song type of the group "cante jondo" and declares that it is the only song on our continent that has been conserved in its pure form, because of its composition and its style and the qualities it has in itself, the primitive songs of the oriental people.

*"Saudade" a feeling very hard to translate and harder still to paint. It is a feeling that is aroused in the tropics and once left for other climates returns periodically and there simply is nothing one can do about it except let it be and enjoy it as one would a fine vintage wine. Each year i paint several "Saudades" and each time they come out differently. The song of same title expresses the mood perhaps better than I could in my paintings, but we all bring our own baggage wherever we travel so hers obviously is different, yet, there is this ..............?: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_7BV-IuyKI

one of several portraits of SS Oberfuhrer Dr. Victor Brack who in 1947 was condemned to die for the murder of several thousand people. /from my own recently found notes on my "Doctors of Death" project, a translation of a letter Dr. Brack send to Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler, June 1942. which was read at his trial and was the grounds for his death sentence.
Dear Reichsfuhrer! Allow me to remind you that it has been over a year now since we discussed the sterilization of some two million jews, so as to render them incapable to reproduce yet utilize them for labor. At that time you liked the idea but objected to the cost and time allocated to this enterprise. I am now happy to report to you that my staff ,working diligently came up with a new process which will accomplish the same results in the shortest of time and at a fraction of the cost, I am now talking about castration via X ray a method proven at various concentration camps, in short we can now sterilize thousands of Jews in the shortest time, Considering the present labour shortages I urge you to act quickly, so we can proceed. Let me assure you that my physicians and the entire medical staff is at your disposal. Should you, dear Reichsfuhrer decide to apply my castration method, kindly instruct Reichsfuhrer Bouhler so he may notify all departments of the approval of project. Heil Hitler, Yours truly. Victor
Victor Brach was found guilty of "crimes against humanity" and was hung on june 2, 1948
* vanished-banished-abandoned, from a friend betrayed, so starts a letter written by a "politico"* from his central American prison, sentenced for trumped up charges in the early 80's. He writes: "between crawling on my knees in my cell, praying to Jesus, hoping he hears my plegaria; yet it is the devil who keeps me company and answers me"
."politico" /political/ prisoners in Central America during the witch hunt years were treated worth than criminals.
