After a somewhat lengthy period of Brent taking photos of me I realized that I am a terrible model. This is the only expression I can make where I look normal! That's okay.
I actually was fascinated by the 'ugly' pictures of Hillary Clinton that roam the internet lately. I personally have nothing against her.
And I also admit that the faces I have drawn here do not resemble her well... Anyhow... it was quite interesting to do these studies.
For example I have quite a few problems to get teeth to look right. Here I think they look right - althought those have not the correct form of Mrs Clinton's.

Layers:
1. masking tape spine
2. collage (random mix of paper scraps)
3. paint (Amsterdam acrylics in red, green, yellow and blue)
4. another layer of paint (black) using stencils - triangles sponged on, doily stencil filled in with palette knife
5. messy writing with white Sharpie
6. splatter in black India ink and gesso
I spent a lot of holidays in San Francisco with Anne Marino and some really wonderful people. This was New Year's Eve, I think, at a friend's amazing apartment on the top floor of a gorgeous San Francisco Victorian House.
My favorite part of the coloring work is that it adds depth to the expressions. Stacey looks pretty different in the B&W version, but this really captures her exasperation.
