Went to Acoustic Expressions, put on by some of the local folks at the USO club here in Ridgecrest. Sort of an open mike night for local musicians, in a very friendly envrionment...A lot of fun. Thanks to Roger Moorehead for working with me on this...He was also a great VAL!

selfportrait expressions - preparing for a story
"La mort veut vraiment m'emporter! En 10 ans, 5, 1, même pas une journée?"
The Death wanted to take away the old lady, "now".
Give me ten more years, no? Give me five. No? Give me one more year?
Even not a year more?
What'll I do now?
Living smileys and expressions. We use smileys and expressions so much in the virtual world of web that we have forgotten how they actually look in real life. Wanted to capture the living ones.
As our programming partner Brooklyn Contra says "If Swing dancing and Square dancing met in a bar, you’d get Contra.” Contra dance is a powerful illustration of folk expression because of it’s ability to bring people together, even those who don’t know each other or interact. Brooklyn Contra, a local community based organization who’s mission is to organize Contra Dances in Brooklyn, has succeeded in tapping into a new generation of dancers in Brooklyn, and at the same time, built a community to care for its future. We are pleased to bring a free Contra dance to the Folk Feet 10th Anniversary. A half hour workshop will start the program off so please come early! Music will be provided by Strumbow Squeezeblow (Bill Christophersen, fiddle; Jody Kruskal, concertina, vocals; Trip Henderson, harmonica; Ross Harriss, guitar; Marco Brehm, bass). The dance leader and caller will be Mary Wesley.
Brooklyn Contra is a local, community-based organization, who’s mission is to organize Contra Dances in Brooklyn. All dances are organized by volunteers, who do everything from booking bands and callers to coordinating publicity to schlepping sound equipment. They support the dynamic cultural evolution of traditional music and dance and host a season of fun and accessible dances and exciting special events, as well as engaging educational programs for dancers, musicians, and callers. Brooklyn Contra creates an inclusive and safe environment in order to foster sustainable community growth. Joe Rinehart, Avia Moore, Carley Gooley serve on their board of directors. Brooklyn Contra is thankful for those folks who donate their time and talents to make our dances run smoothly. If you would like to help out please email us at brooklyncontra@gmail.com.
Mary Wesley is a dance leader, caller, and organizer for contras, squares, morris, and family and community dances. A native of Vermont, she travels throughout New England and beyond to follow and share her love of dance. Mary is proud to be a founding member of the Mad Robin Callers Collective an innovative consortium of dance callers based in Burlington, VT who work together to provide peer support and create opportunities for callers of all experience levels. She also dances with Burlington's "On the Border Morris", Vermont's only Border side of morris dancers. Off the dance floor, Mary works with with the Education Dept. at the Country Dance and Song Society to help spread the joy of traditional dance, music and song.
This evenings music is provided by Strumbow Squeezeblow: Ross Harriss, guitar; Bill Christophersen, fiddle; Jody Kruskal, Anglo concertina; Trip Henderson, harmonica with their brand of "contra dance mayhem -- infused with the blues. Highly rhythmic and satisfying dance music to inspire your feet...and go to your head.” For more information contact Jody Kruskal at jody@kruskal.net

During morning worship on 2 February Pre-Assembly participants were invited to think of an expression of faith that is important to them. Each wrote this on a piece of paper and placed in a basket.
What would be a word that captures an essence of faith for you? Share in a comment or send us a message. #LWFEurope #LWFAssembly
