Stamps and dies from Taylored Expressions. Card by Jen Shults.

The photo I chose for this assignment is one that I took last year, and used Photoshop to edit. I used the burn and dodge tools in Photoshop as well as the shadows/lighting setting to change the contrasts of lighting, and the lasso tool on the petal to keep its color vibrant. The petal represents my optimism for my future. The debris surrounding the petal represent the crushed dreams and dissappoints I had and have surrounding my goals. From my experience in Digital Imaging I last year, I have noticed that I am most comfortable with using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Bridge for digitally altering pictures taken with my point-and-shoot camera or for creating pictures on blank canvases. I used the crop tool for resizing my pictures, the burn and dodge tools to create shadows and light onto my photos, and lasso tools to select areas I wanted to alter. Personally, I want to have a nicer camera that can let me manually focus on objects, but my mom will not let me buy one so I will just have to use the one I have now, or borrow one of the Cannons in class.

Goals:

-to be able to capture beauty that will captivate people into my pictures

-be able to edit pictures and/or create pictures that will effectively convey the feelings I intend the pictures to emulate

Decided to begin a new self-portrait mini series! I love double exposure, so that's what I decided to work with throughout this series. This is all about the expressions, the colors, the textures, and the balance between different exposures.

Jeff made a big stickie on Jonathan's computer, that took him 3 months to find, until this photo was taken.

...at the shores of the Ganges!

The women devotees, praying in earnest sincerity to the River, as soon as the morning dawns. The faith these people hold, is just unfathomable. The beliefs they have in the rituals is something to witness in person

I was invited by the Toolkit Startup 2 to participate to their poster exhibition "ε/Design your Expression".

The concept of my poster is be Free BUT with Responsibility. As Chesterton once said, "To have a right opinion to do a thing is not the same as to be right in doing it".

Urban Expression is a workshop promoting reading, writing, and artistic skills for at-risk youths. A shared initiative with ACCESS Academies’ Succeeding with Reading program, this project will involve Chicago-based artist and 2010 Whitney Biennial participant Theaster Gates, whose neighborhood-inspired work celebrates culture and promotes social inclusion. St. Louis artists Stewart Halperin, Janie Ibur, and Juan William Chávez will guide students from Holy Trinity Elementary School in explorations of their daily lives using photography, writing, and art.

The expressions makes the dance so appealing.. Shweta Venkatesh, is an young talented dancer and one of the dancers who I like clicking and the way she expresses is amazing...

Would like to Thank Amith Nag (my inspiration into dance photography).. If he had not forced me to come to Naman 2012 - my first dance event shoot, am sure, I would not have done the amount of clicking I have done this year...

love the expressions on their faces.

This young Vermont couple appear to be upper middle class. He looks very self confident, or even smug. But she, on the other hand, fingering her beaded necklace and looking slightIy askance at the camera, is harder to read. Is she nervous? Aloof? Suspicous or doubtful of the photographic outcome?
