Explored #105 - thank you!
Today’s image comes from my recent shoot with the fantastic Boston photographer Rich Williams, who took a trip down to NYC and ventured out to Astoria to take some shots of the Robert F. Kennedy (formerly Triboro) Bridge with me. I had a blast, and it was fun to shoot with a guy who absolutely dominates bridges like Rich so often does. This photo came probably 30-45 minutes after the golden glow from sunset faded, bringing out the rich blue I love to shoot in. This was a 110 second exposure, which served to smooth out the water and bring out the subtle colors across the board. If you look closely, you’ll see a random firework that went off toward the right of the frame, as well as some sweet plane trails on the left.
Feedback & advice much appreciated.

The funky look is caused by a combination of age-related oxidation and apparent water damage. It seems the filter layer has become insoluble.

Greystone Asylum
Parsippany-Troy Hills Township
New Jersey
Time may be running out for abandoned Greystone Psychiatric Park. The campus will be knocked down in a “matter of months,” according to members of the state Department of Treasury who visited Morris County Friday, March 28, 2014 to inform officials and a local preservation group that it plans to proceed with demolition.
Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital (also known as Greystone Psychiatric Park, Greystone Psychiatric Hospital, or simply Greystone) refers to both the former psychiatric hospital and the historic building that it occupied in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township (formerly part of Hanover Township, New Jersey).
Originally opened on August 17, 1876, the hospital was known as the New Jersey State Lunatic Asylum at Morristown. The asylum officially received the familiar Greystone Park name in 1924. The idea for such a facility was conceived in the early 1870s at the persistent lobbying of Dorothea Lynde Dix, a nurse who was an advocate for better health care for people with mental illnesses. Because of her efforts, the New Jersey Legislature appropriated $2.5 million to obtain about 300 hectares (743 acres) of land for New Jersey’s second "lunatic asylum." Great care was taken to select a location central to the majority of New Jersey's population near Morristown, Parsippany, and Newark. The land Greystone was built on was purchased by the state in two installments between 1871 and 1872 for a total of $146,000.
At this time in history, New Jersey's state-funded mental health facilities were exceedingly overcrowded and sub par compared to neighboring states that had more facilities and room to house patients. Greystone was built in part to relieve the only – and severely overcrowded – "Lunatic Asylum" in the state, which was located in Trenton, New Jersey. In fact, Greystone's initial 292 patients were transferred from the Trenton facility to Greystone based on geographic distribution, setting precedent for Greystone to become the facility that would generally accept patients whose residences were in the northern part of the state. This proved to be the very reason why Greystone quickly became overcrowded in the heavily populated North, while the Trenton facility's number of patients remained relatively stable in the comparatively sparsely populated South. ~ Wikipedia®

This is really my Iced Tea! After a long, hot day, I wanted to have an iced tea. As there was no ice cubes in the fridge, I kept my tea in the freezer and completely forgot about it till later! LOL....
Have a great week ahead, friends!

Wandering around the abandoned Cooley High School and came across this group of teens taking advantage of the open court. Cooley High is yet another example of the downfall of Detroit. An absolutely beautiful high school left to the elements and vandals. Nice to see that the basketball court was at least getting some use...

urm, just to let you know, i've stopped the 365 thing now because... just because really, and also sometimes i would upload a photo which i didnt actually like and thats not really the point of flickr so yeah, um i will try to take photos more often that i used to but not a dedicated one every single day. i'm not discouraging anyone from doing a 365, in fact the opposite because i've learnt so much from doing it, i just don't think its for me at the moment. i definately want to try again in the future though. i feel that from it, i have become a better photographer and its helped me to think outside the box and to not be embarassed about what people might think of a 15yr old girl just carrying around a camera taking photos of random stuff.
EDIT: thank you all soooo sooo much for all your comments and faves! and wow! i just checked explore to see where it was and it was 1st!!! thanks to the flickr team/ whoever does the explore stuff :)

You came into my life
Quietly , simply , placidly
And my words stood still
I couldn’t express in words
Or even in simple gestures
The secret I kept in my heart
So I loved in silence ,
Admired you from a distance
Dreamt of you from afar
I wanted to say I love you …
I wanted to say I care
But cowardly , maybe , you’ll only laugh at me
In silence then I will love you ..
In silence then I will care …
Ore loads arrive in Proctor, seen rolling past the scale track. I'm not sure if the train actually gets weighed or not here; but nonetheless is a cool scene. On this dreary morning, the train is led by three SD40 types - an IC leader and two BLE motors trailing.
