LADAKH : Day 5
Spectators watch a Masked dance at the Tse Chu or Hemis festival in Ladakh, India
Hemis festival (Tse-Chu Festival) is one of the most famous annual monastic festivals in Ladakh which falls in late June, or the first half of July, precisely on the tenth day of lunar month in the Tibetan calendar.
The event draw spectators from among the local populace in Ladakh region in great numbers for attending these auspicious events which promises spiritual benefits aside the enjoyment of the party atmosphere for the foreign tourists. Guesstimate that Perhaps more than 2000 people attended this event. Huge crowds that gather heighten the sense of the occasion.
The festival is celebrated to mark the birth of Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche), popularly known as second Buddha who responsible for spreading Buddhism in the Tibetan world.
All through the festival, traditional dances are performed by masked monks, called chhams which are accompanied by cymbals, drums, trumpets and traditional clothing portraying gods and demons and depicting triumph of good over evil. The whole series of the dances are dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava, who according to the mythology fought with the demons to spare the people of this place.

this garden snail went off exploring into the ivy .. his little shell house was a bit battered in places .... :)
Native to high elevations in northeast India, China, Burma, and Thailand, Vanda coerulea is prized for its flowers' rich blue, a color rare among cultivated orchids. Wild populations of this orchid are almost nonexistent today because local growers have overharvested them for the international horticulture trade.
Although they say a rich blue color the picture they had was more of a purple..

This was a shot I got as I explored a bit off the trail at twin falls. You can find some great perspectives of the river if you just look around.

Is it not ironic that I had not utilized a great photographic resource that was available right before my house? It is indeed ironic that it took me so long to really 'see' the drumstick tree infront of my house. I have observed and complained a lot of times about the amount of caterpillars that the tree was throwing up. Never did my mind make the connection that caterpillars meant only one thing... A whole lot of butterflies!!!
It is indeed a treasure trove of various activities and I spent quite a while shooting pictures from this tree and hopefully I will be able to harness more from this 'great' tree.
(P.S: I also realized only now what my photography sir used to keep saying. Our photographic subjects are all around us. It is just a matter of us opening our eyes to see them!)
Part one of Day one! lol
This was a lazy local tour for my first day, but keep your eyes open for the rest of the week :D.
