Got up at sunrise and this lovely sun was here. So that made my morning because it's been raining here forever. But then the fog covered the sun and filled the entire mountain so you couldn't see anything. So that was a bit of a poop.

Voltando ao explore.

The last thing I expected was an EXPLORE on this photo.

I believe in my profile description it was mentioned that my ex husband and I had a sign making business for about 10 years in NH. Whenever I see sign companies installing, making, fixing signs it's of great interest to me because of this.

This day was no exception and I debated bw instead but went with color. (I'll probably post the bw version or others on this shoot)

Our sign making business was based out of Plymouth/Campton, NH. We did everything from painted, carved, sandblasted, vinyl from trucklettering to installing larger signs such as these. However I was younger then and had 3 children while, at the same tme, running this business From soup to nuts lol.

As the kids came it was a bit challenging to afford daycare and meet our deadlines. I recall being 40 feet up on a ladder in the winter ~ 8-9 months pregnant to pay the bills.

For about 4--5 years I was secretary for the New Hampshire Sign Association. This group was more of a tri-state or more group... Sign companies such as Barlo Signs, Franks Signs, Paquette Signs and many more attended these monthly meetings.

This is a very positive thing to belong to these associations. Especially being new to the business. Other sign companies are very friendly and often times work can be subcontracted so that both companies benefit as well as the customer.

My first street shot EXPLORE ... I'm thrilled to have my 36th EXPLORE here on Flickr. (Unless I missed one )

Thanks to Erika... you must have the greatest job on Flickr <3

Several shots from a recent trip to Kananaskis lakes I have been there many times but for some reason never explored this part, glad I did very nice locations for sure.

Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia (Turkish: Ayasofya, Greek: Αγία Σοφία; "Holy Wisdom", Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia) is a former patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. Famous in particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture. It was the largest cathedral ever built in the world for nearly a thousand years, until the completion of the Seville Cathedral in 1520. The current building was originally constructed as a church between A.D. 532 and 537 on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, and was in fact the third Church of the Holy Wisdom to occupy the site (the previous two had both been destroyed by riots). It was designed by two architects, Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles. The Church contained a large collection of holy relics and featured, among other things, a 50 foot (15 m) silver iconostasis. It was the patriarchal church of the Patriarch of Constantinople and the religious focal point of the Eastern Orthodox Church for nearly 1000 years.

In 1453, Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks and Sultan Mehmed II ordered the building to be converted into the Ayasofya Mosque. The bells, altar, iconostasis, and sacrificial vessels were removed, and many of the mosaics were eventually plastered over. The Islamic features — such as the mihrab, the minbar, and the four minarets outside — were added over the course of its history under the Ottomans. It remained as a mosque until 1935, when it was converted into a museum by the Republic of Turkey.

For almost 500 years the principal mosque of Istanbul, Hagia Sophia served as a model for many of the Ottoman mosques such as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque of Istanbul), the Şehzade Mosque, the Süleymaniye Mosque, and the Rüstem Pasha Mosque.

Although it is sometimes referred to as Saint Sophia (Greek for wisdom), the Greek name in full is Ναός τῆς Ἁγίας τοῦ Θεοῦ Σοφίας, Church of the Holy Wisdom of God, and it was dedicated to the Holy Wisdom of God rather than a specific saint named Sophia.

Lilac

Lilacs (Syringa) are a genus of about 20 species of flowering plants in the olive family (Oleaceae), native to Europe and Asia. Lilacs range in size from large shrubs to a small bushes, 2 to 10 meters tall. The leaves are opposite (occasionally in whorls of three), deciduous, and in most species simple and heart-shaped, but pinnate in a few species (e.g. S. laciniata, S. pinnatifolia). The flowers are produced in spring, each flower about 1 cm diameter, white, pale pink or more generally purple, with four petals. The flowers grow in large panicles, and in several species have a strong fragrance. Flowering starts after 80–110 growing degree days.

É...é o meu novo brinquedo!

Last week I joined the Get Pushed group. I was looking for inspiration, and hoped I would find some here. So this is my first Get Pushed try! I got paired with ever-creative and fun Emeraldgirl. It was a pleasure going through her photostream - it made me laugh out loud more than once. Here's what she had in mind for me:

"So my challenge to you is to [...] do a selfie where you are wearing red in an otherwise monochrome setting. And the trick is to express how red makes you feel in that setting. Find a spot that is dark, dreary and otherwise dull and really pop that red colour with emotion. No black and white with selective colour though - it should come right from the camera."

I was struck by how she challenged me to do exactly what I would never do normally. First of all, as a rule I don´t do selfies - or at least do not post them here. I´m definitely not model material, and I am kind of a private person - can you tell? And then, I don´t like red. It´s just not my colour.

Even so, I got excited about this challenge right away. How to fulfil the challenge without compromising my own feelings about it. Inspiration hit me like a truck, my mind filled with all kind of wild ideas. Like starting a fire in the woods, or stumbling in front of a train at night. I´ve been advised not to, suppose they´re right, I worried a bit about getting fined too;-). And red, what does it stand for? Love, warmth, sensuality, danger... I got together all the red props I could find, which weren´t many as you would expect. (I did discover I have 3 pairs of red shoes! How weird.) I even borrowed a pretty red party dress from my neighbour. But in the end, I fell for those beautiful red autumn leaves - I rescued the last few of them out of the garden this afternoon.

Now if you think this was easy, think again. There I was, lying on the cold - dull grey! - kitchen floor, trying to get those leaves to stick to my face, all but buttered up my face. I only had a little compact mirror to try to spread them evenly. Had to call my son down to pull the trigger (I have no remote). Had to do the sticking-leaves-on-my-face-thing over again because we burst out laughing. And again. So this is how I feel in red, and I think it shows: ridiculous!

Thanks for the inspirational challenge Emeraldgirl. I´m still contemplating some of the ideas it gave me.

Spotted a small pride of lions coming down the road that leads up the the Lenong Lookout point. I spent about an hour and a half following and photographing these beautiful creatures as they made their way down hill napping and grooming.

i would totally go see it again.

the only thing that bugs me is the movie title.

kungfu kid would be more appropriate.

i'm uploading them too late. boo.
