I totally enjoy pulling back the curtain and explaining how things are done. This might be a reaction from when I was young and adults would tell me to "figure it out yourself". [ I never understood that frame of mind]

Be that as it may, here is a breakdown of the diorama, and as you can see it is cobbled together.

Duct tape is my friend when it comes to constructing these backgrounds.

Due to lack of storage space where I live, everything has to be reduced to small, manageable pieces when not in use.

The lighting was accomplished with battery powered LED lights in the buildings and the trusty 40 watt bulb in the overhead shop light. The piece of cardboard with the hole cut out, taped to the light fixture,

helped to narrow the light beam to suggest a street lamp in the final image.

KEEP IT SIMPLE is my motto.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Explanation of composition. 2

I used the following cameras.

Nikon coolpix 8700

I defeated two of these cameras.

It was a very nice camera.

I took many photos with this camera.

Today's photo.

It was also taken with this camera.

I explained the composition in detail in the text at the time of shooting.

I have taken a lot of pictures until today.

Among them, this photo is the result of sharpening my sensitivity.

I will explain this composition in a video.

But they are all Japanese.

Is there a Japanese beside you?

Is there anyone who can understand Japanese beside you?

Please have them translate.

I leave an important story about composition.

I hope they will reach many people.

Cosmic smoke & telescope mirrors?

Webb found complex organic molecules similar to smoke or smog in a galaxy more than 12 billion light-years from Earth. This sets a new record for the most distant detection of these big, complicated molecules: bit.ly/43M4YEG

The distant galaxy in question lies behind a much closer foreground galaxy. The gravity of the foreground galaxy is so great that it distorts and magnifies the light of the galaxy behind it, making it easier to see.

In space, where there’s smoke, there are stars — usually. But this galaxy might change astronomers’ long-held belief: These “smoky molecules” were abundant in some areas with little star formation, or were scarce in some areas with active star birth.

Due to how far light from this galaxy had to travel, we’re seeing this galaxy as it was back when the universe was < 1.5 billion years old. The discovery suggests that complex chemistry began occurring in the universe much earlier than we thought.

This image: The galaxy observed by Webb shows an Einstein ring caused by a phenomenon known as lensing, which occurs when two galaxies are almost perfectly aligned from our perspective on Earth. The gravity from the galaxy in the foreground causes the light from the background galaxy to be distorted and magnified, like looking through the stem of a wine glass. Because they are magnified, lensing allows astronomers to study very distant galaxies in more detail than otherwise possible.

Credit: S. Doyle/J. Spilker

Image Description: This is an infographic with a navy blue background. At the top left it says, "What creates an Einstein Ring?" In the center is a diagram. At far left is a drawing of Webb, labeled James Webb Space Telescope. In the center is a foreground galaxy, shown in blue. On the right is a background galaxy, shown in red. Arrows run in a diamond shape from the red galaxy around the blue galaxy, and to Webb. The lines are labeled "Distorted light rays." At the bottom there is another arrow pointing to the right that says "Looking further into the past." which implies the galaxy shown in red is older and farther away than the foreground galaxy, which has warped its light. At far right is the inset Webb image of the Einstein ring. In this inset, on a black background, there are two notable objects. There is a foreground galaxy seen as a big bright blue dot at the center of the frame. It is surrounded by an orange ring meant to highlight the discovery of organic molecules in the galaxy whose light has been bent into a circle. Near the top left of the image, there is also a distant background galaxy represented as a tiny red dot.

Well that didn't happen here because we always find somewhere to go when we feel like a nice dressy night out and in this case it was The Bahama Breeze Restaurant.

Not the ritziest spot you can imagine for yourself whilst dressing up a bit higher than the norm but the food is always nicely prepared and a decent price too and the kicker is... When you are wearing a long dark blue lace evening dress, not to mention some great underwear then everywhere you go feels like you were in Monte Carlo.

[The Big Move is scheduled for tomorrow. As I explained over the last few days, no more uploads from me until the 25th or 26th of November at the earliest, assuming all goes well, which one should never assume...]

In the little downstairs room I have been using as an office for so many years in this house, and where I sit today like every morning in front of my desk, the bookshelves are now entirely empty, except for the two large JBL speakers (too heavy for me to dare move by myself), the Revox reel-to-reel tape deck and the small Teac components of my hi-fi installation. They have been unplugged and the cables are all coiled. They look like the folded wings of a dark bird, ready to die... or to fly.

On my desk, almost nothing remains: the PC I will shut down and unplug soon after I finish uploading these daily photos to Flickr, the Bose speakers attached to it, the banker’s lamp that will soon go dark and wait to be packed by the movers when they come tomorrow. All the rest I have already packed away.

There is great sadness at leaving one’s world behind, but as it must be done, then I know that I am also very fortunate because there is a whole new world that awaits me, full of joy and promises, and since for me “a world” implies first and foremost a home base, I am happy, in those moments of separations and departures, to share not pictures of melancholy, sorrow and old dust on empty shelves, but the first photos of the place I will call home from now on. Fate (I would not presume to say the Hand of God as I am quite sure I’m not important or worthy enough for Him to personally care!) has granted me a wonderful new chance at living a life of happiness and love and trust, and even though I am not convinced I deserve such a bliss, I fully intend to make the most of it, and to bring into it all I have to offer, however meager that may be.

Part of the main façade of the house, which was built just before 1750. The whole attic, with its gorgeous period timber structure, will be insulated and converted into a loft-like space for which I will need to design layout plans to organize the space for my needs. The pool is lovely and means I can begin exercising again by swimming as often as I will want to.

I can only confess, I'm afraid. Of what, I don't know; of whom, or why, seems foreign to me. All the explanations in my mind have solutions. I have nothing tangible to fear - the future is looming but it will be okay, no matter what. The downs in life will be followed by ups. I'll carve my own path in the concrete and alter what is set in stone and I will be different, just like everybody else.

So why is the dread in the pit of my stomach so inescapable? Why does it consume me some nights and reduce me to tears at the foot of my bed and break down all honesty until even I don't know why I'm there? What am I scared of facing? I have not lied, nor stolen, nor broken. I have not taken anything that was not mine to take. There is no dues I owe or penance to be paid and yet I feel like something is coming for me, to collect a debt I cannot gather. It cannot be love, I'm sure. I've already paid the cost of that happiness when it took a piece of me and claimed it for its own. I have nothing left to give that repoman, should he come knocking at my door. It would require immeasurable happiness first, before I could have enough to lose. And even then, I'd have to muster courage to allow that happiness in. I don't want to be wary of footsteps on my bedroom floor yet isn't that inevitable? They can only be followed by the swift footsteps of another; the heavy pounding of the debt collector knocking for his price.

That cannot be what I'm afraid of, not today.

And yet,

maybe.

Yesterday, with Hannah, was the first time I've ever been caught tresspassing. "Quick! Should we just... jump the fence?!"

and today I was in a slightly public area, so I saw like, four people. A little couple walked up to me, possibly in their sixties, and the man said, "clearly a girl after our own hearts!" I laughed and asked if they were photographers, they said yes but they didn't have their cameras on them today. I explained my 365 etc and they were charming and then they left.

Hm. Struggling with a few things. Predominantly, right now, french. My exam's tomorrow. Perhaps a little late to begin revision.

I don't think it is THEE Elvis but it is Stitch so it is possible. Anyway, it keeps singing Hunk a Hunk a Burning Love and apparently those are the only words it knows because it just repeats the same lyrics over and over. Which would explain why it's a skull and not a head ... or attached to anything ... like a body ... that I hope no one finds. Just saying.

View wiggling your hips and doing your best Elvis Presley impersonation. Except you in the back. That's scary, stop it.

This is Cruz a young puppy living

with Chrome up on Vancouver Island.

Need more explaining ? OK I will.

In fact we need to turn back the way-back machine.

For a few years I've been following a guy who makes

his base camp on Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada.

A place where I've spent a lot of time and lived

off and on before moving to the jungles

in Thailand. I know it sounds weird.

Anyway Chrome has a youtube channel where he has

customized his van and lives in it full time while traveling

around filming his life's adventures. Cruz came on board

about 3+ years ago and is a real funny guy, loves to travel

and live in the van. What caught my attention about this guy

is of course Cruz, I know the area he's in and the fact that I too

built my 1st camper van way back in the 60's making me a nomad.

So I'm sitting here watching one of his early clips as

he drove 1/2 way across Canada to pick up this cute

puppy when I stopped the video. Why you ask ?

Because this was just to cute to pass up.

Actually I also had a camera in my hand being cleaned

so at this very moment I simply took a photo of this

video on pause. Now please don't panic cuz I

also watch a bunch of other youtube

stuff about building fast cars

and houses off grid.

We appreciate the courtesy of Chatwick University Archives for letting us use the journals in our research, and for permission to use parts for the genesis of “Dare’s Game”.

Dare’s Game

Beth, eagerly looking for Dare, walked straight into Seth’s cunning snare…..

Suffix, circa 1910?. It was during this time a fanciful young lady, whom we will call Beth, started a journal which she would faithfully keep over the course of almost 50 years. She led quite an adventuresome life for a lady of that time, and her journals were filled with many tales and observations of her exploits. The following story is derived from events that she penned down in the early years in her journal.

******************************************************************************

Beth had known Dare since their childhood. Dare was a handsome free spirited youth only two years her senior, who lived for the games his life had to offer. As his cherished nickname inferred, Dare was always trying to find the thrill out of anything he could think up, relishing to go beyond the pale in anything he attempted. Dare always a little different, harboring feelings and ideas way beyond his years, almost as if he had lived a previous life and retained something from it in his being.

Beth would remember times playing dress up with Dare’s sister Diana in some old gowns of their mothers. It was always then that Dare and his friends seemed to appear and talk them into playing hide n seek, tag or cops n robbers. Dare seemed to take pleasure in cajoling the girls into playing with them in this manner. Eyeing them as they played with a far off look that suggested the game they were playing had more meaning to him than he could ever venture to say. It was hard for Beth to explain it, but she did find it pleasurable (almost erotic using a word whose term she would learn much later) to be observed by him in this way.

One warm fall day Diana and Beth headed down to an old shack located near some railroad tracks at the back of a cornfield. Diana was dressed in a long satin play gown with her mother’s jewelry, which Dare had called rhinestones. Beth, herself dressed in a long flowing dress, loved the way Diana’s jewels twinkled and sparkled as she walked. They were going to pretend the shack was a ballroom and they were one their way to a fancy dance, like Beth’s and Diana’s parents had recently attended. Diana wasn’t supposed to be wearing her mother’s jewelry outside the house, but as a result of Dare’s teasing, had done so anyway.

They had reached the shack, an old white brick building with a wooden roof half fallen in, when a man’s voice suddenly said behind them, what are you two ladies up to? Turning they were confronted by a happily sneering drifter. The grubby man looked around, alone is we, and advanced towards them. The two girls stood petrified, he reached out and probed Diana along her side, pretty dress missy, he said, sparsely toothed mouth grinning like a pumpkin. He suddenly reached up and tore the necklace away from Diana’s throat, sending her falling backwards. Beth screamed bloody murder, as the vagrant turned heel, running off towards the tracks. Suddenly Dare appeared, and Beth, meaning to yell for help, exclaimed instead “help honey” to Dare. Dares eyes took on a very different look, almost of a burning yearning. Beth told him what had happened and he took off down towards the tracks in hot pursuit. For Beth, the look he had given her and the way he had dashed off excited her beyond measure. Even for someone that young, Beth now knew what Dare meant to her. From then on, playing games with Dare took on a heightened meaning for Beth.

But, nothing really changed in their relationship until Beth’s sophomore year of high school. Beth was sixteen at the time, a whimsical being, passionate, innocent, not particularly attractive, but radiating with a love of life. A living free spirit, developing into a very sexual being by the time her and Diana decided to attend their schools prom in their sophomore year. Beth dressed in a fuchsia coloured satin dress with dangling rhinestone earrings that had been” borrowed” from Diana’s Mother, the same ones Diana had been wearing when they had run into the drifter at the shack. Diana slipped into the slinky blue spaghetti strap gown and matching cover-all that she had worn as her cousin’s bridesmaid. She was wearing sapphire costume jewels patterned after the hope diamond. Their parents had given them a hard time when they saw their made up girls in their gowns and finery , admonishing them for looking way too mature. They smiled, consoling their parents fears, and went off on their adventure.

Their eyes were dazzled by the display of lights, the cheerfully student filled room, the band. They had stopped and were letting it all sink in, when Beth felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned and came face to face with Dare, who once again had the same yearning fire in his eyes as on that fateful day at the old shack. A veil was lifted from between the two, and Beth spent the whole evening encompassed in Dare’s arms. Soon after that the two had begun seeing much more of one another. Their relationship was still going strong eight years later.

*****************************

8 Years Later

*****************************

Come on Dare, let’s go to the Riverside, it will be fun she urged. She had been trying to get her fiancé’ to take her to the exclusive five star resorts for some time. And now she had a free overnight room card she had won at work! Dare looked into Beth’s wide, hope filled eyes, knowing her passion for attending these types of affairs. Ever hopeful she would see someone rich. Dare knew how to use this to his advantage. Finally he buckled, all right, only if we play the game afterwards he bargained. She squirmed inwardly with passion, nodding her agreement. Beth found the game exciting, though she would never let on to Dare. And, you must wear the gold bridesmaid gown and jewels you wore to your friend’s wedding last week , he added, a wistful smile lighting up his thin face.. Okay she agreed, trying to sound reluctant, but truthfully feeling multiple tingles of delight.

Dare was handsome, in a scrawny, thin bearded, sort of way ( From an old photo that survives he resembled a young Johnny Depp… the eds), with a witty writers imagination and a playful disposition. He could always make Beth laugh, feeling his excitement as he drew her into his stories and games. She would never admit to it, but found the game delightfully erogenous. She smiled to herself, so Dare had liked the satin gown after all, he had not shown any interest in her wearing it since the wedding. And the jewelry, the small rhinestone pendent and earrings had been pretty, but Beth soon came up with another idea. She would knock his socks off by wearing the glittering diamonds and emeralds that had been inherited from her grandmother. The set had laid collecting dust in a safety deposit box all these years, unworn. She had never told Dare about them, waiting for the perfect occasion. She could just imagine the look in his eyes when he saw her wearing them. Okay then, game on, Beth thought, wickedly sending shivers up and down her spine.

Dare’s Game was based on role playing:

Dare would give Beth money to purchase a new outfit, something rich and shiny, like silk or satin. With the new outfit, Beth would wear the good gold jewelry she had received from Dare on her birthdays. The idea was to acting like a bored rich girl out for a good time, alone and vulnerable.

Dare would be at the hotel bar, waiting for Beth to make her entrance, then make her acquaintance , playing a debonair, suited gentleman with a mysterious past and a hidden agenda. They would make a date later, usually to dance and have drinks.

Then that evening, she would go down to the bar. Dressed in one of the long gowns Dare favored, fitting in with the usual spillover from a wedding reception that had been held in one of the Ballrooms. Sometimes she would wear the rhinestone jewelry they had purchased together at various antique stores. Then Beth would wait for Dare to make his entrance, signaling the time for Dare’s game. He would assume one of several roles, or possibly a new one that Beth had never seen. In the past Dare had played:

A spy who would dance with Beth, then disappear. Sending a note to Beth via a third person that would have her meet him clandestinely in a remote location…

A highwayman who would come across Beth on the castle grounds , usually the resorts empty gardens at night….

A rich millionaire looking for romance…

A kidnapper hired by an evil uncle, who after tying up Beth and removing her valuables would have a change of heart….

A Jewel thief who would be cunningly after her valuables…

A handsome prince rescuing Beth’s damsel in distress ….

Or Dare’s favorite, centered on their old childhood game of cops and robbers. Dare would play the thief, and steal something from Beth, usually while dancing. He would then leave preset clues around the grounds that she would have to follow to catch him.

All of the games usually led to some playful groping and then escalating into the upper echelons of erotic pleasure. Sometimes they never made out of the woods, or barely out of the ballroom. Beth shivered at these thoughts, wishing she didn’t have to wait….

Three weeks later at the Riverside Resort.

**********************************************************************

In the Bar:

At the bar, Dare smiled to himself, pleased. He had dropped Beth off to check in by herself. She would change into her new outfit and wear it down to the bar for lunch. She would come in acting like a complete stranger to the area. Dare would make her acquaintance, invite her to lunch, and make plans to see her that evening at the resorts dance room. There were two wedding receptions going on, and that dance room should be filled with well-dressed patrons. Beth would fit right in; clad that pretty gown she had promised to wear.

Dare had been sitting at the bar, thinking about ways to play out the game that evening, when the answer came to him, in the form of a stranger who had come with his drink and sat next to him. The stranger introduced himself as Seth, and shaking Dare’s hand sat on the stool next to him. After they had had couple of drinks, they had become quite chummy. Seth explaining he had come up for one of the weddings, and assumed Dare was doing the same. Seth did not fail to observe Dare’s secretive smile, but did not question it. Their conversation was distracted only when a newcomer appeared at the entrance. Beth walked in, a long flowing silky skirt swishing down to her leather sandals. A shiny, long sleeved satin top fitting tightly along her perky figure, with bright gold jewelry complementing the ensemble. Real gold, Seth observed silently to himself.

Beth went to a table, both men going silent as they watched her move through the room. Good-looking one, that, Seth commented, looking at Dare who was deep in thought as his eyes were fixed on the sexy newcomer. Seth teasingly offered Dare a penny for his thoughts. Dare smiled mischievously, letting lose his plans. Seth listened to the young man, smiling as a light went on in his steal grey eyes. When Dare finished he offered up a suggestion as to how Dare could make it really interesting for Beth. The two co-conspirators worked it out: Seth told Dare about a stone hut and wall that was located on the back nine of the resorts golf course. He suggested that he, Seth, would meet Beth that evening and pass a note onto her from Dare saying that he was in trouble and needed her help, with directions to the spot. Dare liked the idea, and wrote the note on a cocktail napkin, cementing the plan by handing it to Seth.

Off you go old chap, let Uncle Seth take care of his end, he said grinning, giving Dare a sporting clap on the back. With a wink, Dare left his fellow collaborator, and went over to Beth, who had since been seated by a male waiter, now standing drooling over her shoulder as she looked at the menu.

Later that same evening, inside the crowded club:

Seth had stopped by the bar for a last drink. His business venture had been concluded earlier than he had expected. With the change in his plans, he had checked out early, his kit packed, boot loaded and the car ready. He now sat at the bar Causley watching young lass of about seventeen who had literally ran into him at one of the receptions. He watched her flirting about the club, weaving in and out of the guests. With a long swishing gown flowing provocatively along her lithe figure, abundant, solid white gold chains swinging out in an alluringly eye catching manner as she scurried about. A diminutive gold ring its half caret diamond flickered playfully from the petite pinky it loosely surrounded once again welcomed his contemplation. The lass presented quite an intriguing gold feathered fledgling, just begging to be plucked. He looked around, spying her parents on the dance floor. The father/husband, despite being an excellent dancer, gave him no interest. It was his partner, the wife/ mother, decked out in a iridescent suit and long swishing satin skirt upon which he now was reexamining. He again studied under the bright dance floor lights her fine pearls dangling from her ears, throat, and wrists. But it was the Ladies’ two rings that stole the show for him; an engagement ring with a rock of at least 2 carets surrounded by numerous shimmering half caret stones and a pinky ring similar to her daughters, that proudly displayed a single white solitaire diamond of at least one caret that had garnered his consideration. He also reconsidered the facts that he had been able to garnish about the lady who wore them, and her husband. The wife/mother was a heavy drinker who would not be expected to make any kind of appearance before noon. Hubby was a golfer, who would be out for breakfast at five am before being on the links at 6 am the next morning . At 5 :15 Seth was planning to pay a visit to his suite, and relieve his two ladies of their expensive trinkets. It should be an easy straight forward caper, that had Seth bristling with anticipation at the prospect.

As he was tossing down the last of his drink he remembered about Dare and the note he still had in his pocket. Setting down the empty glass, he pulled the note out and looked at it, kids he smirked, and was preparing to crinkle toss it on the bar and leave, when his eyes caught sight of Beth. He had felt his breath taken away when he saw her. Not at all what he had expected, he would say to Beth much later in the evening. He looked over the note, stirrings of a plan began formulating. All thoughts of the dancing couple and his plans fled his mind, as He rose, throwing a fiver on the bar and went off to intercept Beth.

Seth held Beth in his arms, she was a vivacious little thing he thought, while smiling charmingly into her eyes. She seemed a little apprehensive at first, but had settled right in when he had told her this had been set up by Dare, remember me at the bar with him this afternoon he had consoled her, she had smile brightly into his eyes in answer. He relished in the feel of her warm satin gown, and allowed himself to be mesmerized by the shimmer of her diamonds.

It reminded him of the diamonds that had been worn by one of his dance partners earlier that evening at a reception. He had forgotten her name, but not her diamonds, one of which now resided in a hidden compartment of his roadsters boot, along with the diamond pin he had slipped off the satin cape he had cordially help a well-dressed lady put on. He had also shelved his plans for his 5:15 am “meeting” at the golf playing husbands hotel room, Beth’s jewels were a much more lucrative prospect.

When the dance had ended he took her to the bar and sat her down, ordering her a drink. She seemed a little perplexed, Seth kissed her gloved hand; wait for it he told her mysteriously, winking into her eyes. Beth had winked back, the fire in her heart reflecting deep in her eyes. Seth left, smiling cleverly to himself as he took in his surroundings. He looked around as he walked away, now where had the little imp gotten off too?

He had decided that the seventeen year old in the long flirting gown would play a very different role in his plans. He approached her, with Dares note and a twenty. Thought for a moment about the pair of thick platinum gold chains dangling from her throat down the open neckline of the girl’s glossy gown, then banished the though, he had bigger fish to filet. The twenty caught her attention and she eagerly listened as he explained to her what to do, pointing out Beth sitting, waiting in earnest at the bar. Wait until she finishes her drink, Seth told her as she listened eagerly. She took the twenty into her hand, the half caret diamond on her pinky ring flashing, and her gold chain bracelets jangled as she grasped it. Seth left, figuring he had about twenty minutes to stop at his car, get a few items from the boot, and put his plan in motion.

Beth had curiously received the note from the attractively shy young lady, clad a slinky gown that made her appear years older. Reading it she folded it and was just getting up when a man wearing a suit came up to her and offered to let her dance with him. It took her some time, before she was finally able to ward him off and leave the brilliantly lit clubroom for the dark, forbidding grounds outside.

Now, a thoroughly excited Beth walked up the hill. Her senses becoming more prickling alert with each step. Innocently unaware that she was no longer playing a role in Dare’s game!

************************************************************************************

Epilogue:

As Seth walked away admiring the shimmery necklace, his thoughts travelled back to the gold burdened impish youngster in the swirling gown, and her pearl and diamond laden mother. Revisiting his original plans he decided that he liked the odds, especially since they would be against him. With the father leaving early to meet his cronies for breakfast the Mother should be still sleeping off her drink induced stupor, the hyperactive girl should still be out cold, but presented no risk if she awoke, he had more rope. The ladies jewels should be lying about in the apartment, or handedly on their persons( the pairs of diamond pinky rings, as well as the multi-diamond engagement ring flashed once again across his memory with all their brilliant glory),as he caught fire with the vision. There could be a safe he reasoned, but with a tied up daughter and a knife in his hand, the mother should have no issue opening it for him, or disclosing anywhere else her jewels may have been hidden . But if there was no safe, and the rings, pearls and solid white gold chains were somewhere in the room, he knew he would be able to noiselessly break in, find and slip the jewels from wherever they were perched, and be safely on his way without even causing the slightest stir from the sleeping woman and her daughter. It was a road Seth had travelled down many times. He prickled at the thought, as he foresightedly tallied up the potential haul while making his way to the car. The Mother/wife’s diamond rings, would easily fetch him at least three grand, probably close five with her pearls and the whelp’s jewelry added in. About a quarter of what he probably would get for the jewels now in his procession, so he mused inquisitively to himself, so ,was it worth the risk of his 20,000 bird in hand? Yes he answered himself, as all too familiar and welcome tingling sensation overwhelmed Seths muscular body. Like Dare, Seth like to play risky games, especially those which promised to be somewhat profitable. It would be a tantalizingly chancy gamble of his own; to wait a safe distance away while things cooled down and then return to break into the un protected sleeping ladies chamber.. He knew just the place to hide , and it would be a perfect spot to watch events unfold around Beth and Dare, while making his plans! It also afforded a nicely secret hiding nook for the ill-gotten gains collected so far that evening in case something went wrong, which it wouldn’t..

What does Ku Vastei mean? Read below

By Lights-the-Way, Mystic of the Mages Guild

It is hard to describe the culture of my people. Often my tongue stumbles as I try to explain, but it is my hope that ink and quill will give me time enough to gather my thoughts. And perhaps, though such writing, I will finally connect the parts of me that now feel so divided; my homeland of Murkmire and my new life within the Mages Guild.

These journals are to become my ku-vastei. And, as I write that, I can think of no better topic to begin with.

Ku-vastei roughly translates to "the catalyst of needed change," though such a direct translation in no way does justice to the original meaning. Another translation could be "that which creates the needed pathway for change to occur" or even "the spark which ignites the flame which must come into being."

Perhaps a more direct analysis should be first presented. Ku-vastei is a noun, a thing or person. Vastei directly translates to change, an important part of my culture. Ku is harder to speak of. It is that which leads to change, though not that which creates change. An important role, as stagnation is a fate worse than death.

Take a boulder which sits atop a cliff, teetering in place. It must fall eventually. The ku-vastei does not push the boulder off the cliff; rather, it picks the pebble which holds the rock in place. And so it falls, not by a push, but by a pathway cleared.

Ku-vastei is revered, just as change itself is revered, for to look back at what was means to stumble as you move forward. Sometimes, a little push in the right direction is all someone needs to remember such wisdom. Other times, they may need to be shoved.

Naka Desh Tribe

by Emmanubeth Hurrent, the Wayfarers' Society of Wayrest

My guide, Names-the-Orchids, took me deep into the swamp to meet a little-known tribe called the Naka-Desh, or Riverbacks. Few Imperials venture far enough into Black Marsh to meet the People of the River, and the Naka-Desh see little benefit in traveling beyond the boundaries of their Hist's roots. For that reason, most perceive them as a secretive and mysterious tribe. This misconception is made all the more amusing by the Riverbacks' boundless hospitality.

We approached the Riverbacks' territory via ferry boats. Our expedition encountered tribal sentries almost immediately. They floated to the surface of the water like turtles or crocodiles. I was struck by the wideness of their faces, the largeness of their eyes, and the broad webs adorning their forearms and throats. The Hist clearly provided the "right skin" for the locale. Riverback territory is more water than land—a drowned marsh navigable by small rafts, canoes, and little else.

Names-the-Orchids greeted them with a series of low croaks. They cheerfully repeated the sound before lifting themselves onto our boat. Neither of the sentries seemed familiar with Cyrodilic, so our guide had to interpret. She told us that the Riverbacks demanded tribute in the form of a riddle before they would grant passage. I detected no threat behind the demand. It seemed like more of an invitation than an order. I've no talent for wordplay, but I shared a children's riddle about doorknobs that practically every Imperial knows. As soon as Names-the-Orchids translated it, the two sentries clapped their hands. One of them pressed his forehead to mine, croaked twice, then both vanished into the water as suddenly as they appeared.

We spent four days among the Riverbacks—all but one of them on rafts fishing. Riverback fishing resembles traditional fishing in name only. Rather than hook and line, the Naka-Desh use large river fish called osheeja gars. Each osheeja is secured by a strange harness and bridle. When the Argonians find an abundant fishing spot, they release the predatory gars and let them snatch up the fish. As soon as an osheeja bites a fish, the Argonians pull their pets to the side of the boat and claim the fish for themselves. I asked Names-the-Orchids how it works. Apparently, the bridle prevents the gar from swallowing. She assured me that the osheejas are well-cared for, though. Until they grow too old, of course, whereupon they too are eaten.

Our time with the Riverbacks was not without frustration. Of all the Argonians I have met, the Naka-Desh were by far the least curious. Other than riddles, they had no appetite for anything we brought. They refused our food, took no particular interest in our tales, and did not even ask for our names. This disinterest combined with their boundless hospitality made most of the expedition uncomfortable. Names-the-Orchids chided us for thinking kindness demands reciprocity. As always, even these small disappointments teach us valuable lessons.

"Explain your actions!...My actions? - For ordering your troops against one another!"

--Captain Rex to Krell

I get asked very often about infrared filter choices, and since I have an upcoming infrared workshop in Princeton NJ in September (with a few spots left!: princetondigitalphotoworkshop.com/infraredkom/ ), I thought I’d put together this handy example chart and the following descriptions which help decipher it. Read on!

First off, the visible spectrum is a narrow band of electromagnetic radiation from about 400nm to 700nm; this is all the light that we can see. The CMOS sensors in our cameras naturally have a larger range than this, from about 300nm through 1000nm. That’s twice the range of human vision! To make our images look normal, manufacturers put filters in front of the sensors that limit the camera to only the spectrum that we can see.

Infrared photography takes things in a less realistic but fascinating direction: what if you shoot beyond what we can see, into deeper wavelengths of light? There are a number of infrared filters available that you can convert your camera to, by replacing the sensor filters than let through a different portion of the light spectrum. The images in this exactly were taken with a Lumix GX85 that I had converted to full-spectrum photography which allows for the use of screw-in filters on the front of a lens to choose the desired spectrum. Common options are as follows:

590nm (also called Super Colour):

Very colourful but hard to use the full amount of colour, since most of the time it becomes a wash of blue. It’s important to note that this wavelength cut-off includes a sizeable portion of the visible spectrum including orange and red. Because of this, the high-contrast details often found in skies and foliage are more muted.

665nm (Also called Enhanced Colour):

Adding the reds of the visible spectrum into the full infrared mix, this can add additional colour if you’re in a heavily urban area. With careful massaging, you can increase the contrast and have more vibrant colours, but a lot of post-processing work is required if you want to get the right colours.

720nm (also called Standard):

This is my personal favourite. Pure infrared light with glowing foliage, darker skies, contrasty clouds and deeper water. You can still play with false colour here at 720nm even without visible spectrum, since the RGB photosite colour dyes on the camera sensor don’t equally become transparent to IR light until about 820nm. This allows for a conversion to blue skies and a slight hint of colour in the trees if you want it. If you want to make it black & white, you’ll immediately already have good infrared contrast without any extra efforts.

850nm (also called Deep B&W):

Deeper into the infrared spectrum, there is no colour information to be found. Usually higher contrast and the easiest to deal with in editing since there is no colour to fuss with (processing for false colour is a can of worms).

1000nm:

Infrared filters are available down to 1000nm, but since the camera loses sensitivity to light around this point, you’ll need very long exposures (effectively making it function like an infrared ND filter). The contrast is roughly the same as 850nm but you can see a bit farther into scenes without any haze building up. Very few people consider these filters more than a novelty for very niche scenarios (long exposure IR).

Remember that any infrared filter with a number less than 700nm will include a portion of the visible spectrum, limiting the IR contrast effects in favour of added colour that is often times not needed. Beyond 820nm, no colour information exists so 850nm filters are primarily monochrome. Dyes used by different manufacturers may behave differently, but this is the standard behaviour. My favourite wavelength continues to be 720nm for its combination of high-contrast and the ability to process for false colour. There’s a reason why it’s considered the “standard”, which is not with “basic” vs. some other “premium” option!

A science demonstration I can sink my teeth into. Anyone got milk?

Anybody else having trouble with their own shadow lately?

Seems like back in February my shadow started acting up; or that’s the best way I can explain it. I guess that’s a long time to be fighting a shade.

Brahmskontor in the eye of the architect

This reenactor explains to the small crowd in words close to what the city website says about the skirmish. This is what the website says:

"On September 27, 1862, Colonel Basil Duke led seven companies of Confederate soldiers to Cemetery Hill, above the small town of Augusta. With two pieces of artillery and 350 of [Confederate general John Hunt Morgan] Morgan's finest Raiders, Duke hoped to disperse the Union militia of 125 men stationed there (led by Colonel Joshua T. Bradford and known as the "Home Guard") before crossing the Ohio River and moving on Cincinnati.

…Duke's horsemen rode into town, expecting a quick surrender. Instead, the residents of Augusta met the Rebs with a hail of gunfire, mounting a stiff defense that ultimately resulted in hand-to-hand fighting. Duke later reported, 'The hand-to-hand fighting in the houses...was the fiercest and hottest I ever saw. I witnessed in some of them the floors piled with corpses and blood trickling down the stairways.'

About fifteen Union soldiers were killed or wounded in the battle. Duke's losses were considerably more severe, with seventy-five to one hundred of his soldiers wounded or killed. Although the Confederates eventually forced the militia to surrender, the battle caused Duke to abandon his plans of taking the war onto Northern soil."

Say what you will about Google, the company's image recognition capabilities are astonishingly good. All I had to do to identify this church was capture the image with the Google app. Google did the rest in the blink of an eye and returned with the correct result.

Google probably has nefarious motives for giving us this "free" service. For all we know, Google's campaign for world domination is advancing one 70-year-old slide at a time.

Be that as it may, had I tried to identify the church by comparing it with photos of churches in the location where I thought the photo was taken, I'd have come up with nothing. Since the slide was with photos I knew were taken in Chile, I assumed this image was too.

How wrong I was! The scene here is in Panama City, very far from the Chilean Lake District. The only way I can explain my mother's presence there is that she had a layover in Panama City on a trip between the US and South America. In the propliner era, aircraft had shorter ranges. Panama was a logical waypoint.

As a boy I enjoyed visits to the airport at Panama City because of the many different airlines that called there and the abundance of propeller planes at a time when jets were replacing them in the US.

Getting back to the image, the structure is the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, known in Spanish under the much more poetic name of la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

This is a very rare case when scaffolding was on a church not in connection with repairs or restoration but with its construction.

Here's a piece about the church in Spanish. A translation in fluent Google-Translate English follows.

----------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------Churches are often seen as an architectural monument, an art worthy of admiration by all. In fact, they are part of the most prestigious and profound constructions that exist around the world.

In Panama, this type of art is usually quite predominant thanks to its association with religion. It should be noted that the first most famous church is the cathedral, and that after it is followed by the church "Nuestra Señora del Carmen".

Antiquity of the church Nuestra Señora del Carmen

Despite the fact that said monument has been standing for years and even decades, the church remains quite active.

The name of the church comes from the veneration of the Virgin Mary, also known in Panama as "Our Lady of Carmel" or "Our Lady of Mount Carmel". Several decades ago, specifically that of the 40s, there was a kind of cult in honor of this Virgin; they called themselves “The Congregation of Carmelites”. It could be said that it all began there; however, it was not until 1947 that the creation of this great religious structure began.

On July 7 of that year, a first step was taken, laying the stone that would start eternal years of revival of this cult. This act was carried out by Archbishop Francisco Beckman.

In the years 1951, on the 16th, this church was inaugurated as a work of art in Panama; and in 1953 it was blessed, so that it would have a vision of the future, currently having the fruits of that harvest.

Now, the entirety of the construction ended in 1955, when they made two huge gates that are shaped like towers.

As in every country, in Panama there are also traditions, and one of the most important is the celebration of the Virgen del Carmen. For this day, the inhabitants and tourists make parties and showy activities, leaving all the streets impossible to travel, due to the agglomeration of people.

But, now, the most important thing about this date, which is July 16, is that they venerate the Virgin Mary with masses and activities that take place, nothing more and nothing less than in the monumental church of Panama.

A curious fact is that Panama, during the month of July, is filled with many tourists, who turn out to be totally faithful to this religious tradition.

Olive groves and pine forests typify the vegetation of lower ground. Exposed limestone faces of the mountains explain the Spanish name translated as the White Range.

This is one of two pictures on a page labeled "First picnic of the season (Aleda's very first!), in the Black Forest region near Denver, May 4, 1952".

The sling on my left arm is explained in note #3 below.

**********************************

Some of the photos in this album are “originals” from the year that my family spent in Denver in 1952-53 — i.e., the period before Omaha, before Riverside, and before Roswell (which you may have seen already in my Flickr archives). I went back nearly 40 years later, as part of some research that I was doing for a novel called Do-Overs, the beginning of which can be found here on my website

www.yourdon.com/personal/fiction/doovers/index.html

and the relevant chapter (concerning Denver) can be found here:

www.yourdon.com/personal/fiction/doovers/chapters/ch6.html

Before I get into the details, let me make a strong request — if you’re looking at these photos, and if you are getting any enjoyment at all of this brief look at some mundane Americana from 60+ years ago: find a similar episode in your own life, and write it down. Gather the pictures, clean them up, and upload them somewhere on the Internet where they can be found. Trust me: there will come a day when the only person on the planet who actually experienced those events is you. Your own memories may be fuzzy and incomplete; but they will be invaluable to your friends and family members, and to many generations of your descendants.

Actually, I should listen to my own advice: unlike my subsequent visits to Roswell, Riverside, and Omaha I did not take any photos when I tracked down my old homes from the 1952-53 period in Denver. I did locate the second house, and I was stunned to see how it had changed over a period of 40 years: as you’ll see in the photos in this album, it was a new house, under construction, when we moved in. The only “trees” were a few scrawny saplings that my Dad planted in the front and back yard. 40 years later, the trees towered above the house … but the house itself seemed tiny, in comparison to what had seemed like an enormous mansion to an 8 year old boy.

While most of our residential occupancies last just a single year, the period in Denver lasted roughly two years. But it felt almost like two separate cities: first we lived in a rented house in the Denver suburb of Aurora; and then we moved into a new house that my parents purchased somewhere on the south side of Denver. So, as usual, I ended up going to two different schools, and developed a fairly superficial set of friendships with two different groups of kids.

So, what do I remember about the two years that I spent in Denver? Not much at the moment, though I’m sure more details will occur to me in the days to come — and I’ll add them to these notes, along with additional photos that I’m tweaking and editing now.

For now, here is a random list of things I remember:

1. While living in our first home, I finished off my second-grade school year. I did reasonably well in school on most subjects — it was a couple years later, in Roswell, that I announced at breakfast that I had mentally calculated the number of seconds in a century, in the hope that it would help me fall asleep. I rattled off the number, and when my Dad repeated the calculations on his slide rule, he shook his head and told me that I had forgotten to account for leap years. Anyway, in Denver, my 2nd-grade teacher told me I had a much more serious educational problem: my penmanship was atrocious. The school authorities insisted that I spend the summer practicing penmanship, and strongly suggested to my parents that the *real* problem was that I was left-handed. Several attempts were made to make me start writing with my right hand — all of which were dismal failures. I eventually gave up on penmanship, and began printing everything … a habit that continued until I was given a hand-me-down manual typewriter by my parents at the age of 12.

2. The summer of 1951 was hot and humid; and like many other families in the area, my mother took me and the older of my two sisters (the other one was born a year later) to a large public swimming pool (it seemed enormous at the time, but it was probably pretty small). Anyway, it was a great breeding place for germs of all kinds; and sometime in the late summer, everyone but my mother came down with polio. We were all taken off to three different hospitals; and the neighbors were so panicked that my mother might be infectious that they stopped speaking to her altogether. Miraculously, all three of us had gotten the least-virulent form of polio, and we all recovered sufficiently within a week or two that we could come home. I was fairly weak for the next couple of weeks, and had to take a hot bath every day; but aside from that, none of us suffered any no permanent effects.

3. It was late 1951 or early 1952 when we moved into the house that my parents had purchased in another part of town; I remember that my younger sister was born there on St. Patrick’s Day. As usual, I was allowed to wander anywhere I wanted, on foot or on bicycle, as long as I came home on time for dinner. One day I took a long section of rope, climbed way up into a tree a mile or two away from home, and then way out on a long sturdy branch. I tied one end of the rope around the branch, and then wrapped another part of the rope twice around my (left) hand. I swung down from the branch, intending to descend in an orderly fashion, just like I had seen firemen doing it in the movies. Unfortunately, it didn’t work: I slid helter-skelter to the ground, landing in a heap, and the rope around my hand cut through the skin, almost through the tendons, and all the way to the bone. I had to have my hand wrapped in bandages for the first month of my 3rd grade school year; and once again the Authorities tried to use the opportunity to get me to use my right hand for penmanship. Once again, they failed.

4. In the summer of 1952, I was sent off to a sleep-away camp for two weeks, somewhere in the mountains of Colorado. I have no idea why, but it was a lot of fun … until I was thrown off a horse and knocked unconscious. The camp authorities decided there was no reason to inform my parents, though my parents were rather curious when I subsequently refused to climb up on a horse wherever we went. They also noticed that I was limping when I came home from camp, which the camp authorities had apparently not noticed; I had hiked all the way to the top of a mountain with my fellow camp-mates, and I had a rock in one of my boots. It caused a blister, which got infected, and I was probably lucky that they didn’t have to amputate my foot. All in all, the camp experienced was deemed a failure, and I was never sent away again.

5. I got my first slingshot in Denver. It was not a “professional” Wham-O slingshot with natural rubber and ash wood; instead, Dad made one for me from a Y-shaped chunk of plywood, and with strips of rubber from an old automobile inner tube. I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen — and immediately began shooting at every bird I could see on a telephone wire or branch of a tree. I never did hit a single one of the. (By the way, Wham-O eventually went on to achieve even more fame with its hula hoop, frisbee, and hack sack. You can read all about them here on the Internet: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wham-O )

6. The next best thing, besides a slingshot, was the top of a coffee can. They tended to have fairly sharp edges, but if you held it carefully and threw it just right, it would sail for miles and miles … at least it seemed that way. It wouldn’t return to you, a la boomerangs (which every kid had heard about, but none had ever actually seen) — but it was just like throwing a flying saucer. Unfortunately, coffee-can-tops were not readily found, especially since we kids never drank any coffee. We had to wait patiently for our parents to finish off an entire can of coffee, and then scoop it out of the garbage can when it was thrown out.

just to explain this photo a little.

I have spent the day with two T girls who look great and are more than passable both girls are having or had laser hair removal. I haven't undergone any treatments of any kind mother nature did her work on me as can be seen in this photo.

I was wondering how far you would go as a part time T girl to achieve a look and how you would hide the results of the more invasive procedures?

I have had/have friends who take hormones and start to develop noticeably they also have very feminine eyebrows one has even started to have his hair in a very feminine style. Both of these girls are in relationships. If I have noticed others must have including the partners who apparently don't know about these girls dressing.

For me it doesn't matter everyone has grown up with my attributes although at times they do cause a fuss when a new face appears in my life.

A couple of months ago, i had this idea about how to help women to feel a little bit safer when the are out on the street at night.

all this ideas that i had back then have finally come to a project.
