A fellow member of Marches Book Arts Group, Liz, has taken a glossy photograph and crumpled and rubbed it. She then photographed it in the dark with an indirect light source.
The resulting texture is compelling.
With her consent I am working with these images to experiment with an idea I have on bold photography for a possible Summer School activity.
I have printed some of her images on to glossy, mat, label and decal paper and I will be playing with these in the forthcoming week.
My first idea concerned laying down a background using labels.
This turned out to be a very useful backing for collage
To conclude, i noticed that choosing a focal length is a huge part of the composition process of the shots ive been taking. I noticed using a wide focal lens creates distance between subjects, but choosing a longer focal length helps to compress the subjects against the background such as how i demonstrated in this image.
Moody Experiment.
Some photos from a place you might already recognize, as there're many photos of it here. This time I tried to make something different out of the familiar views. After all, this is a landscape that probably is not scenic this time of the year. At least not for me, not in the usual sense. But of course there's a certain mood -- which might be something that comes out of myself, but I'm sure not without some stimulus, outside, it is really there, somehow. Can it be pictured? Can it be conveyed? How can you depict the actual first impression?
On a technical note: All done with old 50mm f/1.7 lens, all wide open, I used a Kenko nostaltone blue for diffusion and color shift. „Enhanced" in LR & PS.

The Sojourner Truth monument in Battle Creek, Michigan.
This was the first serious infrared that I shot. It was part of a post card shoot for a friend, documenting this monument, the Underground Railroad monument and the W.C. Post statue.
Anyway, the project went nowhere and the files were tucked away on a DVD. I think that I might stick with this series for a while; my attempts with the camera were well beyond what I was technically capable of processing, so the raw images never met my vision.
This, of course, was shot with a really sad excuse for an infrared camera and would never do for anything, but it is a fun reminder. Experiment! Always!
Tech: raw image from a tripod mounted Fujifilm S7000, processed with a home-made custom camera profile in Adobe Camera Raw. The Khromagery false color action was applied. Additional work with Topaz Detail brought out more blue.
this was actually a little experiment i conducted. i decided i wouldnt change my white balance to contradict the blue tone outside because then the picture would come out exactly as i saw it.....well maybe not exactly. i dont see in HDR most of the time haha.
oh yeah also this building is a jewish synagogue built in the 50's i think. some pretty sweet architecture if you ask me. im still working on getting inside to see what its like.
p.s. i shot this at about 5:30 A.M. just before a disappointing sunrise.
Just wanted to see how the starbursts look with this lens - sun was out for about an hour this afternoon.

I had this undeveloped B&W film under the stair since 2010.
I found article about monobath and this one was easiest to understand. So I tried it. It works but because I did not seal the lid properly, when I turned tank upside down a lot of liquid had leaked---- therefore half section of film were developed funny.
Experimenting with flash and a straw grid snoot. The victims were too busy with Scooby Doo to care about the occasional flash going off :-)
SB-26 set to wide angle to the left, snooted SB-600 on the right.
So, my today's photo experiment didn't work out. So, that's all I've got :-) Handheld, in-camera HDR.
An interesting experiment I did with a 35mm film and a cheap plastic camera. First I took some very random shots, then I reloaded the film and took another set of random cat shots to double expose the film. Once I finished the film I dunked IT in in a pot of boiling water for 3 mins! Amazingly the film survived, although it did take a few days to dry out. Once it was dry I took it to my local minilab and developed it. Some weird results but pretty happy. Give it a go!
I decided to experiment with some cross processing - I'm liking the effect it gives, it punched up the contrast, as the initial effect gave quite a 'foggy' appearance to it...... thoughts?
