Image Description: "W. A. Peck, County Agent in Ward County and Mr. Trott of the Grain Growers Guide. Mr. Peck is a married man and the boy is his eldest son. Mr. Peck is a graduate of Minnesota Agriculture College. He spent five years as a field man for the office of farm management at Washington, managed a three thousand acre ranch in Montana, before taking up County Agent work. He does not believe in riding in a Ford car so this year bought a "Grant".

In the background can be seen the white covers on the Alfalfa on the farm of one of his co-operators."

This was the first in Kristin Prather's series of Science and Math Workshops. They are for Intermediate School students to learn basic math and science concepts through FUN activities and demonstrations. They will get to make rockets, search the stars, and test mind-boggling physics theories. Let's not forget playing math games!

March 15 (Science) : 3-6 PM

March 29 (Math) : 12-3 PM

April 26 (Science) : 12-3 PM

May 3 (Math) : 12-3 PM

All workshops are in the Activity Room in the Friendswood Public Library.

Moody Experiment.

Some photos from a place you might already recognize, as there're many photos of it here. This time I tried to make something different out of the familiar views. After all, this is a landscape that probably is not scenic this time of the year. At least not for me, not in the usual sense. But of course there's a certain mood -- which might be something that comes out of myself, but I'm sure not without some stimulus, outside, it is really there, somehow. Can it be pictured? Can it be conveyed? How can you depict the actual first impression?

On a technical note: All done with old 50mm f/1.7 lens, all wide open, I used a Kenko nostaltone blue for diffusion and color shift. „Enhanced" in LR & PS.

Another experiment. Not sure what to think of this.

Red and pinks aren't usually my color of choice, but I really like how this one turned out. Definitely my favorite of the experiments last night. I'll take what I learned from this one and expand on it with more layers and textures I think.

More experiments with this darn logo!

experimenting with shutter speeds: 25 seconds @ F/16

I take my practice where I can get it. I take advantage of my father-daughter time to practice and experiment with whatever art supplies are at hand. This is crayola washable paint, and colored sharpies on watercolor paper. Lessons learned: 1) washable paint is not that good for layering because it "washes" off :) 2) watercolor paper must usually be prepped by wetting, and stretching (it warped and buckled) 3) I need to use grown-up art supplies some time soon!

The subject was picked from one of my toon jellyfish sketches. Hope you like!

Something I don't normally do I decided to experiment with, What do you think?

abstracts experiments on color mixing, mark making and brushwork

Sitting around patiently for around 4 hours tends to make you go a bit silly, which was fine by Chris. He doesn't mind getting silly night of the living dead shots.

Just a silly experiment with colors (no drugs involved)...

Prattville, Chelsea, MA

It took less than a minute to pull it off, but it seemed like ages.

Playing with household objects

Just trying out different woods to see what I like! Thats a big fluter sitting in the hole.

Thats my 2 1/2 yo. He throws temper tantrums when I give him dummy tools that dont work! So I made him some carving tools by flattening the ends square on the grinder and rounding off the corners - they work like scrapers with no danger of getting a cut!
