Someone is ready for a fire!

St Nicholas, Tolleshunt Major, Essex

At last, the road left the great grey river behind and turned north into the Tolleshunts, the first of which was Tolleshunt Major. Despite the name, this is the smallest of the Tolleshunts, and the church sits away from the village on a lonely bluff overlooking the Hall.

Locked, no keyholder. This didn't quite ring true, because this was the opposite of Heybridge, this was a church you'd simply expect to be open. In visits to more than 120 Essex churches, this was only the fourth one I'd come across which was locked without a keyholder notice. The church is tiny, but with a whacking great red brick tower added on at the end of the 16th century, with none of the style and finesse of typical beautiful Essex brick towers of earlier in the century. Som ewhat surreally, there was a caravan parked hard against the north side of the chancel. The revised BoE has little to say about the interior, and without a keyholder notice it didn't seem worth pursuing the key on what would be a short late autumn day, although I did note that the Rector was that of the next church we planned to visit, Tolleshunt D'Arcy.

River North Arts District, Denver

A banda Carlos Bronson fará o encerramento.

When I went to work Monday morning, I wasn't expecting events to unfold as they did. I received a cal from a friend and co-worker that was given four tickets to the Indians vs. Red Sox game at Jacob's Field. I thought about it for nearly two seconds and said, "I'm in". We rounded out the four with a couple of other friends, and the roadtrip was on. This is Tim...the most avid Indian fan I know...he didn't know he would be at game 3 either until I called. Our seats were two row off of the field directly behind the print media cameras. Unbelieveable!!! And well worth the four hour drive from work and five hour drive home at 430AM. A great night for The Tribe and me and friends.

February 12, 2010

I didn't expect this to be my shot for the week but I really like it.

She's perched on a chair (not somewhere we usually encourage dogs to be) in front of the living room window. The background was too bright and everything was getting washed out. I pulled my flash later on and got more technically correct photos but none of them had the appeal that this one has for me.

No one knows what to expect from tomorrow or next month - Our plan is hope

Expect a few of these, think I'll limit selfies for each end of week. So that's the first week of 2014 over.

Daily grind back in swing.

First proper run tomorrow, shall be hard. But worthwhile.

I like the light in the background with this filter, looks omnipresent...

Expect the worse.

Right!

I realize I talk to much and don't do enough and lately I started listening to myself talking about not seeing enough Street Art in Israel (after almost 2 decades outside..) so I decided to shut the hell up and do something about it.

so, here you go...

And I tell you one thing is for sure, doing too much digital art can suck your brain away, going back to analog, painting for hours, walking the streets late late at night, using the city as your playground (speaking as a skater here as well) and an expo space is truly magical and driving.

God knows I need this now more then ever..

O, and don't call the cops on me please or I will never talk to you again!!!

This one was an accidental take, but I really liked it!

We are expecting our first child on May 21st. Went out and took advantage of the spring wildflowers to help with the photos. I'm not much of a portrait photographer so found it a bit challenging.

ok, well the Mourning Dove who has taken up residence in the eaves is...and so perhaps is a friend... from what we read they sometimes share nests and we have 4 eggs, typically one female only lays 1-2 eggs. Can't wait until they hatch : )

Called in to help the Iron Horse Ramble on the wye outside of Jim Thrope, these Fast Freight EMD units roared past down the line. The units would later be used to pull the train the final leg back into Reading as both crews for 425 and 2102 were over their time limits and were cut off at Port Clinton

the parents were expecting to get wet.

I noticed this female that had landed on the milkweed. I wondered why she was landing on the buds rather than the open flowers.

a.) I found three types of soil at my site: 1) Sand, 2) loamy sand, 3) silty clay loam. I expected to find only sand because of the large cliff made of sandstone leading down to my site. But when I dug about 6 to 8 inches down in the location with several trees, I was surprised to find the silty clay loam.

b.) Because most of the site consists of sand and loamy sand, water and nutrients flow through it fairly quickly before the plants can pick it up while the soil consisting of silty clay loam is better able to hold water and nutrients.

would explain where the majority of plants in the area are very small. But the location with the silty clay loam, the soil is better able to hold water and nutrients which allowed the growth of the large Pine and Cypress trees.

c.) Where the sand and loamy sand was present, the vegetation consisted of only small low lying plants most likely due to the low water and nutrient content of the soil. On the other hand, where I found silty clay loam, there were numerous large Pine and Cypress tree's due to the retention of water and nutrients flowing through this system. This abundance has promoted the growth of much larger plants.

d.) The small plants in the area with sand help hold the soil together so that it doesn't all blow or erode away. The larger vegetation where the silty clay loam is present, help break up the clay so that it's not as compact as well as leave a small layer of decomposed biomass which is nutrient rich and promotes the growth of plants that could not previously grow there.

e.) The sand that I collected has a high probability to be eroded away down to the beach which is right next to my site at the bottom of another cliff. This erosion probably wont have much effect since the cliff that goes up the back side of my site is made of sand stone and will continue to supply it with new soil. As it erodes to the beach, the ocean will wash it away to a new location. The silty clay loam on the other hand has much less of a chance to be eroded since it is buried underneath roughly half a foot of loamy sand and nutrient rich top soil.

f.) It is important to think about soil texture as an ecologist, because different types of soil texture greatly influence the vegetation which grows on it. Beyond that, the type of vegetation that is present directly affects the type of animals that live there.

27 June 2022, Turin, Italy. – INNOVATION 4 CHANGE (I4C) DemoDay 2022 culminated today in a long-expected event that was launched at the historical site Castello del Valentino in Turin. The Kokorò team share information at their colorful stand.

The second part of the DemoDay took place at the Fondazione Agnelli, a short walking distance from the castle. At this location each team had a stand providing further information about the solution to their challenge. This was a great opportunity for each of the 10 teams to interact with the audience, answer questions, and showcase the various products created.

This year's winner was Team Ferrovie dello Stato Italiano, with their Greensect waste processing system. Second place went to Team UNICRI, while third place was shared by Team Movyon and Team CNH Industrial.

I4C is the main Impact Innovation program in Italy, organized by Collège des Ingénieurs, CERN IdeaSquare and Politecnico di Torino. Every year, I4C identifies 10 challenges with global impact, pitched by institutions and multinationals. To match these challenges, 10 multidisciplinary teams are selected to work on sustainable solutions and solve the challenge. They have five months to resolve the task and present their pitch. The teams are formed by MBA CDI students and one PhD student enrolled in various European universities, as well as storytellers from Scuola Holden.
