Expect a slower pace here in Montreat. I spent many hours walking around this small lake when I was younger. Montreat is home to Montreat College and has an active conference center. The Inn while staying for a conference is the large rock building in the center of the photo. I look for the two white swans that make their home here.

This is my first attempt to make a vertorama about of 2 HDR images. I was expecting it to go horribly, but it worked out.
2 sets of bracketed shots (-2 0 +2 EV) imported into ACR to tweak saturation, contrast, etc
2 HDRs processed in photomatrix
Imported back into photoshop, stitched using photomerge (perspective)
Lightened the foreground using a masked curves layer

Rock balancing requires skill, dexterity and a determination like bedrock in your soul.
You take time to carefully plan the towers. You lovingly and painstakingly construct them with slow and deliberate movements. Eventually, after long labour and hard concentration, you can stand back and admire your finished pieces. You are pleased with your work. It's good. It's unique and special. This measured act of creation stirs something deep within and it feels satisfying to your soul. You set up the camera to record your marvellous artwork forever. It's going to be a precious reminder for all of your days to come.....and then someone wanders into the shot with a bright yellow wellie boot on his head. Why does that always happen??
In Venice, you'll see plenty of beautifully attired constables, from one of , oh, three or more different police forces that have jurisdiction in Venice. They're friendly and helpful, but seem powerless to do anything about the Vu Cumpra. I'm only making fun because I heard it all from Venetians first.

Expected to be one of the biggest games of the season, a large crowd attended this Centenary-Loyola game. The Wolves did not put up as much resistance as was expected, and the Gents defeated them 51-0.

as expected, not many photos today. it didn't feel right to bring a camera to the funeral. shame though...it was a beautiful ceremony. first time not only witnessing a traditional chinese/buddhist funeral but also participating in it as well. felt honored to be a part of it.
the service is a long, solemn event. both emotionally and physically taxing. fortunately, the breaks between sections give precious rare opportunity to chat with family that we don't see often enough. a weird duality of emotions, for sure. and at least for me, it helped to get through the day.
on our own for a couple of hours. then the family, more reposed, meets for dinner. the mood had lifted enough that i had no qualms about toting the camera along to capture a few portraits.

photo notes: remounted the 17-55mm for the evening. although the extra couple stops on the 50mm f1.8 would've been useful for the low light, there were enough people in these portraits that i knew i'd need something wider.

My cousins are expecting their first baby - the first of our generation - at the end of the year. Today was a huge day for them, as they went to find out the sex of the baby. They were so excited that they brought select family members with them to find out and invited everyone else to their house for dinner to get the news and celebrate.
A few of my friends have gotten pregnant recently, and their attitude toward finding out the baby's sex varies. One friend who is having her third baby and is due in two weeks does not know what she's having. She didn't know the first two times, either. Others want to know so they can plan rooms, or in my cousin's case, bedding.
So all day, the family was waiting to hear the news, and when we finally did, all we could do was laugh. Turns out there's a baby in there, all right, but as of now, all we know is it's healthy. You see, the umbilical cord is between the legs and, if you didn't know, babies don't wear gender-specific clothes in the womb - or any clothes for that matter.
My aunt and uncle brought a cake with the perfect inscription in non-gender specific yellow piping: "It's a ...!!!"

I found the rest of the Pocky stash at Korean Korner, however I forgot to get the kind I got last time, so before the orgy shot I need to go back and get that. But until then it will be individual shots like the original.

Expecting parents, Aletta and Denver get ready for the arrival of their baby girl. Denver is trying to put a crib together while Aletta is just sitting in the chair eating cookies. Seems pregnancy cravings have already gotten to her. :)
