Taken at the Mill of Kintail near Almonte. This is the way up from the parlor to the loft where various sculptures of Dr Tait McKenzie are displayed. In addition to his sculpting, Dr McKenzie "gained world acclaim for his pioneering work in preventive and rehabilitative medicine. Many of the exercises massage and hydrotherapy treatments he developed are still in use by physiotherapists today."

An isolation challenge for indoors - this is an exercise that that I regularly ask my workshop participants to try; this one standing at the bathroom sink.
Try it; find a place to stand, without too much prior thought (the place where you're standing when you first think of the idea is often good and challenging). Then make twenty images, moving no more than one pace in any direction. Try it with a variety of lenses. Twelve images is easy(ish); twenty is not.
This one is standing at the kitchen sink after washing up, and I did not move my feet. All the images are less than an arms length away.
It is primarily an exercise in seeing. But most importantly, in letting go of expectations as to what to photograph, and in taking away object labels so that we see in terms of contrasts, colours, lines, textures, shapes, forms et al.
Seeing needs practice, practice, practice. Like hitting cricket balls, the more we do it, the easier and better it gets ...

German-French Brigade Holds Military Exercises
German armed forces Bundeswehr soldiers with the 291st infantry battalion and French soldiers from the 110th infantry regiment during the German-French armed forces exercise "Feldberg 2013" (hillfield 2013) at the military training area Oberlausitz on March 19, 2013 in Weisswasser, Germany. From March 6th to March 22nd, 2013, 2100 soldiers of the Franco-German brigade are conducting exercises aimed at reinforcing the relationship between French and German units and to show the operational capabilities of the dual nationality unit.

NENASI BEACH, Malaysia (June 18, 2013) - Equipment Operator 2nd Class Jeremy Edelstein, left, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5, constructs an all-purpose emergency shelter with members of the Royal Malaysian Army during Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Malaysia 2013. More than 1,200 Sailors and Marines are participating in CARAT Malaysia. U.S. Navy ships participating in CARAT Malaysia include the amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46) with embarked U.S. Marine Corps landing force, the diving and salvage vessel USNS Safeguard (T-ARS 50) with embarked Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 1, the guided missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), and the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1). CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
