My roomates step sister, Ann, came by to study algebra. He had some conflicting obligations, so I took her downtown and let her use my camera and gave her a couple of tips. She was into photographing a lot of graffitti, did some really excellent macro's (that I'm slightly jelous of!) and also photographed some frogs from a calendar so that it'd look like she took some really good photo's. You can tell that she's 15 b/c she described all of her impressive shots as "tight", lol. Anyway, I promised her I'd upload these, & give her full credit, so here you go. There are shots from Kerry Park, Seattle Central Library, and the Pike Place Market. I cropped and digitally manipulated some of the shots, but for most of these it was her who focused and released the shutter. Enjoy!

Zamora, 10/9/2007. Otra flor más. Me encanta jugar con el macro (y he tenido la suerte de que tanto la Coolpix 2000 como la PowerShot A710 IS tienen macros excelentes). Si os cansáis de florecillas, decidlo ;-) .
Yet another flower. I love paying with the macro (and I have been lucky, because both the Coolpix 2000 and the PowerShot A710 IS have excellent macros). If you are tired of little flowers just say it :-) .

Esta pequeña joya de mariposa es la
Aricia cramera de la familia Lycaenidae. Su nombre común es "Morena". Habita el sur de Europa y norte de África, España y Portugal, junto con la isla de Menorca y las Canarias.
Es una mariposa escasa y muy localizada por lo que habría de cuidarse y proteger las zonas donde se encuentren las plantas de las que se alimenta, erodium, helianthemun y geranium. Apenas se diferencia de su hermana la Aricia montensis, que es un poco mas grande y no tiene las lúnulas anaranjadas de las alas anteriores hasta el ápice, como las de esta de la foto y no llegan hasta el extremo o punta de las alas (ápice). Esta longitud de los "lunares" (lúnulas) es la pequeña diferencia entre ambas especies.
Las orugas se alimentan de las plantas antes mencionadas, pero en invierno se alían con las hormigas viviendo en sus hormigueros y suministrándoles una secreción azucarada a cambio de protección. Es un buen sistema de colaboración. .

Texture is all around us. While I was looking for something to shoot for my 365 Project, I grabbed my Canon G10 from the counter, which makes excellent macro shots. I use this camera for my macro shots, because I don't yet own a dedicated macro lens for my D300s. Camera in hand, I made it my goal to shoot several frames of nothing but texture and I limited my location to the kitchen. I was amazed at how many texture images I instantly came across. In fact, I stopped shooting only because it was getting late - there were many more texture opportunities to be found.
Look around you. There is texture everywhere. You don't have to use a macro lens, although it will help you to see things differently. These texture images can stand on their own, or be used in other composites as backgrounds or overlays.

Hesperiinae....Part of our technique with the tissue is to take a photo from a distance and work our way closer. Often a butterfly is so engrossed in the sipping of minerals that it will stay for an excellent macro shot (see next photo).
Close up photo of a flower. The Fuji S9600 (S9100 outside Europe) has an excellent macro mode for focusing very close and gives the wonderful effect of throwing the background right out of focus).

This is another macro shot using the excellent macro facility of the Fujifilm Finepix S602 Pro zoom. Shot at 200 ISO.
Taken with my Canon Digital Ixus 75, which is a point-and-shoot. I put it in "macro" mode- through the menu, not the little button on the back. It takes practice, but you can nail excellent macro shots with a simple point-and-shoot camera.
