One of the most distinctive trees of the Kenyan savanna is Acacia (Vachellia) drepanolobium or whistling Thorn. It has evolved a very special symbiotic relationship. Gall-like, hollow, swollen bases at some of the spine pairs have evolved, each with a small entry hole. A very specific colony of small ants can have their nests in those structures and be safe. In return the small but aggressive ants attack any animal trying to browse the tree.

The common name Whistling Thorn is based on the fact that the wind blowing through the trees makes the swellings act like improvised flutes and they sometimes produce a whistling sound.

My Photoblog- My Third Eye...!

Banksy's "Girl with Balloon" as it was before it's infamous shredding after sale at auction.

I love seeing where they come from, what they look like at their peak!

Those huge heads, so layered, all coming out of this one bud... it NEVER ceases to amaze me.

The evolution, the unfurling, the GRAND opening...

The peony is the only genus in the flowering plant family Paeoniaceae. They are native to Asia, Southern Europe and western North America but grow very well here too, Peonies are actually very easy to grow; once established they can tolerate drought and suffer from very few diseases.

Colours range from pure white through baby pinks and palest peaches to clear deep pink and darkest rich maroon. There is also a pale yellow but it is rare.

Peonies are only available between late May and early July, so get them while you can!

They are very thirsty flowers, so make sure you top up the vase or bowl.

The Greeks believed they could cure over 20 ailments and were found in every monastery garden.

Peonies have been cultivated for over 2,000 years, more for their medicinal qualities than for ornament.

The Japanese protect the earliest peony blooms from the snow by protecting them with individual small thatched shelters. Some geishas used to wear special peony colours.

The Chinese name for peony is "sho yu" which means "most beautiful" and they idolised this flower.

The common thread is that the flower always denotes luxury and indulgence.

Went for again for a dramatic lighting, to make them 'different' from other flower images...

My favourite... Lol, thanx for your time and comments, M, (*_*)

Spending time with one’s boyfriend while he fishes has probably gone on for centuries. Being able to access the Internet and attend class on a laptop while spending time at the lake with him has not. The evolution of virtual education, shopping, and entertainment still astounds.

I chatted with her for a bit. She was a delightful young woman.

While we were in SF earlier this afternoon, we stopped by Justin Herman Plaza to check out this new gigantic human sculpture called R-Evolution. There were a few street vendors and a crowd around the sculpture. So I had to frame this shot with the feet cut off to get the crowd out of my way. Not a clean shot, but it shows the size of the sculpture compared with the ferry clock tower behind.

Please comment if you favorite, C/C is greatly appreciated!

Dick Grayson- the first Robin, I really liked the idea of going with the classic suit, although i hope to give him a long yellow cape

Jason Todd- the darkest of the lot, Jason's suit is based off of Young Justice, with an added hood that tries to show a correlation between his Robin and Red Hood suits

Tim Drake- While personally I've always really liked his green and red suit, I really love the TLG fig, i really don't know why

Damian Wayne- although my least favorite Robin, gotta admit, his costume is probably the best. Used the official fig

Now I know there are other Robins, but in my Universe, Kerry Kelly and Stephanie Brown were never Robin. Stay tuned soon, I also have the evolution of Batgirl

This wall slowly cycled through different coloured lighting - a very pleasant changing ambience and fun to point a camera at

Serious taxidermy, beautifully presented. More than 7000 preserved animal specimens displayed in a vast metal & glass 19th-century hall. Highly recommended as a place to visit.

The Evolution of Dresses

I'm not sure if I have evolved all that much in the past 7 years because my first few dresses look a lot like my current ones, but this was fun and nostalgic! :)

Maybe I will make one for my custom dolls and maybe eyechips too!

p.s. I tried to tag other people but couldn't for some reason, so please tag yourself if I didn't get you!
