On this day I'd been tasked with doing a brake job on one of the trucks by Dad and of course it was noisy in the garage with the air compressor running when all of a sudden over the racket my world was rocked with the unmistakable BAAAAMMPP horn of an F leader. Weather was normal September mist and clouds and I was covered with enough grease that I not only screwed the exposure but didn't even make it to the optimum position for the shot before he thundered by. Anyway its 912 on September 6, 1977 with roster oddity 2228-A(top light removed due to wreck damage)leading 552 and 2229-A and 102 cars near MP447 west of Trout Lake.

The George Clooney of the raptor world, this bird is a powerful hunter...of already dead prey. It's highly-tuned eyesight and nose allow it to find deceased animals from up to a mile away. Its keen nose has evolved to pick up malodors on the forest floor while it glides above the canopy. This powerful sense of smell is unique in the bird world--it is even unique among vultures.

Oh, and why is his head bald? So that bits of dead meat can't stick to his face.

Oh, and how does he defend himself from a would-be predator? By projectile vomiting powerful stomach acids at it.

Every summer we get an invasion of these tiny creatures. They appear to come from inside a metal garden table. As you can see they number in the thousands and are about the size of a grain of sand.

I completed the 52 Weeks of 2015 last year and decided to go for it again this year, attempting to be more creative than before. So here's my creative photo on this week's theme: "Every journey starts with a..."

I had a couple of ideas and shot both, but this one worked better.

I was actually there, outside with a thought cloud on a stick, that is actually the sky, but I did tweek it in photoshop a bit to remove the stick and clean up the cloud and add the little clouds.

Every year during spring migration, I get one lincoln's sparrow in my yard. Never more than one. They are one of our winter sparrows but they never drop by until just before time to migrate north for nesting season. I guess this one sparrow knows there is lots of food here to fill up on before the long journey.

Something a little different this morning. I couldn`t help but look at this in the school playground this morning, with even the paint on the ground creating some shadow.
