I'm on holiday in Greece and today has been a very hot day. Too hot even for wearing satin, but now it's evening and it's a lot cooler and much more comfortable. I take the opportunity for a nice girly evening stroll in satin to check out the hotel gardens and enjoy views of the Mediterranean. Look, it's beautiful here with the plants and trees, the sea, the sunset and the wonderfully colored sky.
As the golden Tanzanian sun drops towards the horizon the small fishing boats head home past the large ocean freighters waiting for their turn in the teeming port. Every day through September 2014, while I was in Dar es Salaam, I could watch the evening and morning activity from the balcony as I sip my Chai Masala (spice tea).
It was a healthy reminder to my jet lagged self that I am most certainly NOT the hardest working person (helps keep perspective).
I wonder how this paper is given out for free everyday in London ....who pays .... I always pick one up to read on the train going home & I always here Eric Morecambe shouting out

You should watch this Large On Black since that brings out more details. My pictures aren't balanced for a white background and a lot of the finer details are lost in this small format. the large version is a sixth of the original - The medium size shown here even smaller...

I can only guess that this was somewhere in Orange Free Sate, with the onset of a storm. My notes for this photo are sadly lacking. One of those negs that at the time was just too difficult to print, but all that has changed with the enlarger being superseded by the scanner. South Africa Early 1976. © David Hill
This evening on the walk home from work, passing the front of the Royal Scottish Academy on the mound, dusk fading into full night, didn't have the tripod with me so I improvised sitting the camera on the handily flat-topped railings and taking a couple of shots on either side of the junction in front of the Academy.

Mother's Day 2016. Setup Demo. Late evening around 7pm for the right light we wanted. Used an old rake to mark the subject's location. Cheetah Boom Stand above subjects, angled down, with a Rovelight 600B and 47" Neewer Brolly Box (very light weight for the size and output). Trigger is a basic Yongnuo RF603c via PC sync cable. Light set to 1/4th output in normal manual mode. Sekonic light meter used to meter the output to the location from the light to be F8 (to correspond with F2.8 aperture with a 3 stop ND making it effectively F8 needed for correct exposure from the light). Setup the camera on a tripod. Camera is 5D classic (1/200s, F2.8, ISO 100) with a 3 stop Marumi ND filter on an EF 200 F2.8L prime (old one) and rubber hood. Metered ambient light to be about correct at those settings with the ND filter in place, so as the light drops from the sun, ambient will darken. Yongnuo RF603c on the camera to talk to the light. Wireless shutter release is a generic one, with camera set to one shot focus drive, center point, so that it can grab focus and trip the exposure & lights with a single press. This allowed me to do selfies with the girls for Mother's Day. Took about 20~30 minutes to setup and pre-plan the settings and meter.
After we docked in KaÅŸ harbour, we made our way round the harbour wall to the lighthouse to settle and take shots of the sunset.
