Hidden within the roots, seeds, flowers, leaves, bark and fruit of many plants are concentrated, highly potent chemical compounds called essential oils. Everyone knows honeybees collect nectar and pollen, less known is the fact that they also collect and use these other natural compounds inside their hive. Combined with other ingredients they become an antifungal and antibacterial material used by the bees to treat the wood surface, seal cracks and voids and protect it from molds and mildew.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Yes!!! I finally figured out what this darn shirt was after probably close to seven years of searching for it endlessly on eBay. I always wondered if this was a Fashion Fever item because of its print/cut. However it turns out that this is a little older, and from a cheaper line of clothes. I want to say I got these pieces together in 2011, probably from the "Bratz Guy bin," or one of the other super old doll lots we found that year. Anyways, I saw many similar pieces over the years, but never matched any to this shirt. I never knew that this skirt had anything to do with the top, shown here. I'm actually ecstatic to have an entire outfit unknowingly (this probably won't stay in storage for long). I first unintentionally found a photo of this shirt on eBay, being worn by a Fashion Fever Summer. She had been crammed inside a 2003 City Style box, wearing this top and a random pair of pants. The seller didn't realize that this was not in fact Summer's box. I was fooled for a few minutes too, but obviously she's way too new to have been from 2003 (look at her mold dates alone). I was feeling frustrated....here I was thinking I had finally solved the mystery of this shirt, only to realize it was a dupe. But as I was looking on Google, for another item, I saw a photo of this Essentials Fashions pack pop up. What a glorious moment indeed, and how ironic that I found two pictures of it in one day, after years of having zero luck. This is the kind of outfit I would have relished as a kid. It's a bit bohemian, and casual. Many of my favorite dolls would have worn this, like Heidi (Travel in Style Barbie), Sabrina (Spot Scene Teresa), and probably a Pocahontas doll if I could have crammed her huge boobs into the top. I like how plain these pieces both are, and that they can be mixed/matched with other clothes easily.
We had a few days away in Northumberland recently - our summer holidays apparently – my fault- It was destined to be a road trip rather than a walking trip as I have recently been diagnosed with arthritis in my right ankle. The ankle is giving me a lot of pain although I’m told that it is a tendon that’s giving the pain not the arthritis (I’m not convinced). I had a bad ankle injury around 14 years ago and it’s come back to bite me. I’ve spent the last six months on my feet or climbing in and out of different machines non-stop for between 10 and 12 hours a day and I needed to try and give my ankle a rest.
We decided to visit a few places that we bypassed on our way north two years ago. Castle Barnard was first, it was Monday morning and we wandered around and had a coffee, a nice place. Next up was Bishop Auckland, I do a bit of business here so I had a quick look at John Denham’s (quite impressive) yard. Basically, we looked at the map and headed to the next place that looked interesting, eventually hitting the east coast and following the coastal road to Alnwick-where we were staying for four nights.
At this point I must admit that I wasn’t in holiday – or photography- mode, It’s been all about work for six months, very intense and I haven’t been able (or particularly wanted to) switch off and relax. For the first time in a long time I haven’t had any interest in taking photos. I’ve done a tiny amount of editing and uploading - compared with my usual output that is. Most of my uploads have been work that was already edited and ready to upload and I have grabbed a few minutes here and there to put them on Flickr. The occasional trip to the Lakes hasn’t inspired me either. With hindsight, this is how this trip turned out, I took very few photos, being in a car, you are rarely in the right spot at the right time, you need to be out there-on foot! We drove over the border in to Scotland a few times, Berwick and Coldstream were a couple of the places we had a coffee and a stroll, lovely places (the sun was shining!) and very friendly, every local we met in Coldstream spoke to us-and we thought that us Yorkshire folk were friendly. The weather was generally OK but we had an awful lot of grey skies.
The tide was out when we walked along the coast to Dunstanburgh Castle so I rock hopped along and got some nice shots. Most of the time we just explored, finding places that we hadn’t found on our first visit. It is fantastic driving up there and it was a road trip so from that point of view it was good.
We chose to drive home following the coast as closely as we could from Alnmouth south. Blyth, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, under the Tyne Tunnel to South Shields, A nice coastal drive to Sunderland, again hugging the coast we made our way to the historic Headland at Hartlepool. We crossed the Tees at Middlesbrough, on to Redcar, stopping just short of Saltburn. This was the home of the steelworks that played a large part in the company’s history in the 1960’s and 70’s. We had wagons running overnight to Skinningrove, it’s why we started running bigger wagons than our competitors. I think it was a 216 mile round trip –a day’s work with the wagons of the day and no motorway, a beautiful scenic journey once beyond Leeds. I used to tag along when I was a kid, long hot days in very noisy motors. It was mid-afternoon and my trip down memory lane had to be cut short as we had to head for home, Jayne was bowling in a competition on Friday evening. all in all it was a really interesting journey and the coastline was impressive with miles of beach, towns and villages that are back on the up after the loss of mining, steel and heavy engineering etc. that traditionally supplied well paid jobs for life. We shot down the A19 and on to the A1, I wanted to see Rosebery Topping as I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, with distant views of the Cleveland Hills, needless to say there had been a five vehicle shunt on the opposite carriageway and it was gridlocked. I spotted a lot of hauliers from the North East and Scotland that I knew, trying to get home for the weekend stuck in mile after mile of standing traffic. Not a bad week but not much achieved photographically. I was in at work Friday evening, back to normal. We will be going back to the North East as there is so much to see and explore.

The Chantry ( built1937, listed Grade II 1971) was so christened simply because Clough happened to like the name. The first phase of building at Portmeirion involved Clough in 'pegging out' the project by committing himself to the essential dominant structures, to be linked up with less important buildings later. Thus was Chantry conceived and built at the highest point of all, an escarpment of rock sheer above the roadway and village green. It was intended for the artist Augustus John and included a studio for him on the top floor, complete with fish eye lens looking out over the Campanile. The panel on the cupola is a carving in blue and gold of "Sun and Glory". Chantry is now a self-catering cottage sleeping nine.
Portmeirion is a model village built by its founder, the architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. He wanted to demonstrate that a naturally beautiful site could be developed without spoiling it, and that architecture in sympathy with its surroundings could be good business. His motto was "Cherish the past, Adorn the present, Construct for the future".
Clough acquired the site in 1925 for around £20,000. It was then, as Clough wrote, "a neglected wilderness. Clough immediately changed the name from Aber Iâ (Glacial Estuary) to Portmeirion: Port because of the coastal location and Meirion as this is Welsh for Merioneth, the county in which it lay.
The concept of a tightly grouped coastal village had already formed in Clough's mind some years before he found the perfect site. Clough sometimes later suggested the development was unplanned but drawings and models suggest otherwise. It appears that he had quite a well defined vision for the village from the outset and that to a large extent he stuck to it. Portmeirion was built in two stages: from 1925 to 1939 the site was 'pegged-out' and its most distinctive buildings were erected. From 1954-76 he filled in the details. The second period was typically classical or Palladian in style in contrast to the Arts and Crafts style of his earlier work. Several buildings were salvaged from demolition sites, giving rise to Clough's description of the place as "a home for fallen buildings".

The information we get from satellites is essential for understanding how fast our seas are rising so that decision-makers are equipped to take appropriate mitigating action. Satellites carrying altimeter instruments systematically measure the height of the sea surface so that sea-level rise can be closely monitored. Altimetry measurements over the last 25 years show that, on average, sea-level is rising about 3 mm a year, and this rise is accelerating. However, this average number masks big differences as it is not rising at the same rate everywhere. In fact, while in some places it is rising as much as 10 mm a year, in other places it is falling by 10 mm a year. There are many reasons for this imbalance such as differences in local gravity, freshwater discharge from rivers and differences in seawater density.

For the last year I have been teaching in a new place; my third teaching post in my career. I love this college and really want to stay there for a long time; I intend to grow my department, promote my course and inspire young minds.
I'd love to start a new course, and I won't get the green light on that until I can prove myself to my employer. I am looking forward to starting a new syllabus in September (one of many changes I've made as head of department in an effort to improve grades).
These things photographed have become essential tools in the preparation and delivery of my lessons. I pride myself on being able to contextualise all information for the learners, and that means research, research, research.

How to use essential oils?
How to use essential oils?
Essential oils, powerful concentrated vegetable energy, are true essences of well-being. They are good for the heart, by their beneficial odors, to the body, thanks to their specific virtues, and give pep to the skin. But beware, they are not used anyhow!
What are their characteristics?
Essential oils are volatile odorous substances contained in plants. They can come from flowers, leaves, fruits, bark, seeds and roots. They are extracted by steam distillation. The amount of oil obtained varies according to the plant of origin. For a liter of lavender, it takes forty kilos of flowers, and it takes one hundred kilos of rose petals for a bottle of 25 ml! This high concentration explains the power of essential oils and their price, often high.
How are they used?
Essential oils are used internally for therapeutic purposes, they act on viral diseases, destroy germs, fungi, infectious toxins and, externally for a global beauty (face, body, hair). They pass very easily through the skin, through the different layers to reach the bloodstream, in about twenty minutes, and act deep in the body. They also penetrate through the respiratory tract: inhaling their perfume provides a deep well-being. Essential oils are only used in very small quantities and always diluted, in the bath water (30 drops of essential oil in a bath of hot water) or in a essential oil, for a topical action.
Manual
Their power is such that they are not used on the skin, some of them can cause burns. They are diluted in essential oils, sweet almond, hazelnut, sesame. Rich in vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids, they moisturize and nourish the skin deeply, and allow the penetration of the beneficial assets of essential oils in the epidermis and dermis.
Caution: Test your wrist. Dilute 1 drop of the essential oil of your choice in 5 drops of essential oil, apply and put on a bandage, leave for several hours and observe the reaction. If you have any irritation, give up.
Action
Face: Essential oils, real boosters of the skin, block certain processes of cell degradation. A daily massage, before the application of the care cream, stimulates cell renewal and restores radiance and suppleness to the skin.
Body: The essential oils are massaged on certain parts of the body, to treat specific problems, to stimulate the microcirculation and to facilitate the water loss (cellulite, heavy legs), or on the whole of the silhouette to improve the elasticity and the firmness of the skin,
Hair: A good friction with essential oils, soothing, stimulating, activates microcirculation, relaxes the scalp and restores tone to the hair.
What are their virtues?
Anti-stress, antiradical, anti-cellulite, toning, relaxing, sanitizing.
Lavender, bactericidal, rebalance dry and irritated skin.
Geranium, toning, soothes sensitive skin.
The carrot, anti-oxidant, revitalizes dry and tired skin.
Cypress, venous tonic, calms congested skin.
Patchouli, healing, reduces acne.
The lemon, astringent, purifies oily skin.
Roman Chamomile, anti-inflammatory, is suitable for all skin types.
Rosemary, toning, restores radiance to dull hair.
Eucalyptus, antiseptic, cleanses the scalp.
Peppermint, stimulating, restores its vigor to the hair.
Sage, tonic, facilitates the regrowth of hair.
Oregano, anticellulite, refines the silhouette.
Juniper, draining, gum cellulite.
Orange, antispasmodic, relaxes the body.
Sandalwood stimulates and tones the body.
Convenient :
They are kept between 12 and 18 months, protected from light.
Choose them of good quality, undenatured by synthetic components or cut with oils or mineral spirits, read the label well, the mention “first cold pressed” must be mentioned. Why ? because hot pressing causes essential oils to lose their nutrients (fatty acids and vitamins). Look for the organic label and the HEBBD label (botanically and biochemically defined essential oils). Buy your essential oils in health food shops and natural products or in some pharmacies specializing in aromatherapy. There are also some websites but nothing beats the advice of the professional.
recommendations
Do not leave a bottle of essential oil within reach of children.
Strictly observe the indicated dosages.
If, by accident, you project the essential oil in the eye, do not rinse with water but with the first fat that falls on your hand.
Precautions
– Some essential oils are photosensitizing, (bergamot, lemon, cedar, lavender), it is absolutely not recommended to expose to the sun after their application, to avoid stains on the skin.
– Essential oils are not used in cases of allergies, antecedents of eczema, urticaria, allergic rhinitis (stuffy nose). To avoid absolutely in asthmatics, nothing but the smell can cause a crisis.
– Pregnant women should seek advice from their gynecologist.

Kmart #3619 opened in 1987 and it was 86,079 Square Feet. Kmart planned to closed the store in 2003 but that idea was cancelled and it stayed open. In 2005, this store was converted into a Sears Essentials than in 2006 converted into a smaller version of Sears Grand. That was basically just Sears Essentials. This was my local Sears Essentials store. In fact, my family during the 2011 Christmas shopping season spent $300 but that didn't matter. On February 24, 2012, Sears Holdings announced the closing of this store by May. This was the 2nd to last Sears Essentials store. The store still remains vacant after over 7 years.
Originally opening in November 1993, as one of two new Kmart stores in Mobile, this store, along with three others in the market, was converted to the Sears Essentials brand in 2005.
The store occupies 51,348 square feet.
It's slate to become a re-branded Kmart store in November 2011.
