I found this Noon fly impaled on a gorse spike today. I can only think it has flown at speed into the spike and been impaled. When I found it, the legs on one side where still moving. But I think it could have been there for days. I took my pictures and removed the fly from the spike and quickly euthanized it with my finger and thumb.
Very weird thing to find!
Poor fly - I really like these guys but they do fly very fast.
I think if you were noon-fly sized and flying straight at a gorse spike at speed it would occupy a dangerously tiny portion of your field of view.

my Canon G10 crapped the bed for no reason in particular. every pic is either grossly overexposed, black, has horizontal banding all across it or, if I'm lucky, looks like this gem above. I'm still under warranty so hopefully I will have this cleared up soon. will try shooting with a guest camera for a bit.

This was an experiment. We had a great sunset waiting for the lighting of the Fresnel Lens at Pigeon Point. I didn't want to lose my spot on the grounds, so my view was basically of a lighthouse, a sunset, and Jim Patterson's head. After I shot this, I figured I'd see how good my cloning skills were.
5 hours later, I was finished. Patterson, JavePhoto, Cripps, Diego, and Kendra were all lined up in front of the building here, so I basically ended up having to draw the building from the ground up. I decided to leave one dude in here for fun.
Even though this was a "C" image, I spent so long cloning those tuna's out that I wanted to keep a nice version of it. I saved it as a Master file, resized it for the web, added a border etc., closed it out, and promptly threw up.
I had accidentally hit "Save" instead of "Save As" with the new file name. In other words, the web size is now the only file I have of this. And I'm NOT going to put in another 6 hours of work to get rid of a Patterson.
I'd love to say this is the first time I've done this, but.....
You'd think I'd learn to rename the file before I resize, but I'm not terribly bright.

En esta foto cometí un error bastante abultado de exposición, nada más que 5 pasos enteros. Normalmente uso una aplicación que se llama light meter y este día salí con dos camaras y la otra llevaba un Washi de ISO 12, que sin darme cuenta quedó así marcado en el medidor cuando expuse esta foto (y la siguiente que hice) sobreexponiéndola mucho. Pensé sencillamente que las habría perdido y aparecerían blancas, pero al parecer la oscuridad de la noche es bastante permisiva con estos errores, y hasta se ve el mar de fondo, cosa que nunca hubiera pasado de exponer a ISO 400. Eso si he dado un poco de contraste a la foto, pero el resultado final me agrada y es diferente. También se aprecia en una esquina una estela de las luces de un coche.
