263/365 - Equality
For my part in the Friends Leadership Program at George Fox, I got together with the Youth and they gave me tons of ideas on paper - as well as 3 great photos to start this series off with. They all helped work together for a concept that fit the Quaker Value.
There's a movement for marriage equality in new york state right now, which would make marriage available for all adults regardless of sexual preference. On the way to a concert at Radio City Music Hall I happened to come across a rally in support of marriage equality and took these pictures. It's a good cause, I support it!

This protest was in response to the closing of Highland Mall the weekend of the Texas Relays. Austin, TX
Organized by the international organization Animal Equality, and with the participation of Portuguese organization Frente Animal, the demonstration condemned Ahold Delhaize’s failure to follow through on its 2014 commitment to eliminate cages in its U.S. pork and egg supply chain.
Demonstrators stood outside the venue where Natalia Wallenberg - Ahold Delhaize’s CHRO & member of the Executive Committee - led a section titled “How to Shape and Drive Impact within and beyond your Organization”.
Displaying posters and a banner with pictures of Animal Equaility’s recent investigation filmed in a farm in the U.S. linked to Ahold Delhaize, the protest aimed to expose the contradiction between the topic of the session, “how Ahold Delhaize uses purpose, leadership behaviors and bold aspirations to promote positive change” and the reality regarding the lack of commitment and reliability showed by this company on animal welfare.
This protest is part of an international mobilization happening in Europe and in the U.S. where dozens of demonstrations are taking place to hold Ahold Delhaize accountable. This company failed to follow through on its commitment; published over a decade ago, to phase out of cages for mother pigs and hens in their U.S. supply chain.
“Companies as huge as Ahold Delhaize should show responsibility and reliability over the commitments they make. By breaking their promise to eliminate cages for animals, they are falling behind the industry and their own competitors.” said Sharon Núñez, President of Animal Equality. “The company is knowingly supporting practices that cause immense suffering to animals, also betraying the trust of their customers. We want answers and a commitment from Ahold Delhaize to end the use of cages immediately.”
Animal Equality continues to call on Ahold Delhaize and its brands, including major U.S. grocery chains Food Lion, Stop & Shop, and Giant, to immediately honor their commitments and eliminate cages from their supply chain.
